My hometown Chinese place is still around but the family that ran it left for NYC after their daughter graduated in my class. The different owners just aren't the same and neither is the food. They had some of the best rangoons, Mongolian beef, and General Tso's. They even had the lil fried sesame balls filled with red bean for a dessert. Could be worse OP. I'd rather it be gone than be a shell of what it once was. Miss it all the time desu

Sorry. That was me stuffing the rice down the cracks of the booth. Since they won't put out just sashimi or use less rice in the rolls, I gotta do something with it.
>>
Suddenly our towns stray cat population has exploded.
>>
>>22096606
And that's a good thing.

yay!
we're finally beating covid!
>>
>>22096570
Doubt it. They'd been going for a decade
>>
>>22096430
I'm sorry to hear that Anon. I'll remember your plight next time I go to my own local Chinese buffet.
Broader discussion topic: what's the strangest dish that your local buffet has on the regular? Mine does chicken katsu with a peanut butter sauce. It's surprisingly good.
>>
>>22096874
Mine has that dish, I actually like it.
>>
I don't think mine ever will. They are just too good of a value proposition compared to surrounding options.
>>
>>22096618
cats are NOT girls
>>
>>22096430
My nearest closed but the other two are just a mile farther down. One of them expanded in September, buying an abandoned store next door. Somehow, they stayed in business while renos were being done.
>>22096606
lmao
The two I just mentioned are in the same shopping plaza, across the lot from each other and there's a huge cat colony behind said plaza. Like HUGE huge. White bitches that ain't got shut going on in their lives go back there and build little houses and shit and feed the cats.

My local chinese buffet got a new owner and his daughter at the cashier immediately started to recognize me as a regular and always chat with me whenever I come
>>
>>22096430
At least it didn't have a shift in quality that was tangible immediately when it happened, and you thought it was a fluke, but when you got raw chicken the second time, it was confirmed by reviews to have completely changed into a shitty ass restaurant, rather than the best chinese food you ever had.

>>22096528
my consolences
>>
>>22096927
Don't be so sure, anon. There are two instances of similar restaurants suddenly just changing and being shit.

Shame. Where else can you get this exact kind of pizza? It seems specific to Chinese buffets. No other shitty pizza is quite like it.
>>
>>22096528
Same thing happened to ours. It was well lit, hot and fresh food and it was clean. Fastfoward 8 years and new owners. Place got dim, food didn't seem as fresh and was clearly food company processed and the staff were rude as fuck. Funny thing about those bean balls, had a Cambodiain coworker eat 54 of those bastards on top of his three plates. Asian ladies were all pissed off.
>>
>>22097154
Its rare that you can visibly see the hate and contempt that went into a cooked food

>>
>>22096430
Mine's still running, but the quality went down after the father of the family running it retired. From 1991 until 2016, I had access to the finest pork fried rice ever created. So, I guess this is growing up.
>>
>>22096430
Warragamba?

>>22096430
I’m sorry anon
>>
>>22096430
I'll never understand the economics of buffets. All it takes to bankrupt them is for one fat person, even a compeitor eating maliciously, to buy a ticket, sit down and start eating to seriously damage their razor thin margins
>>
>>22096430
Sorry anon I was the one who threw up in the Chinese buffet bathroom
>>
>>22097496
They charge by plate or weight.
>>
>>22097501
Not in any buffet I've ever been to. Its usually one set price per person and all you can eat, though I'm sure lardfats have been kicked out before
>YOU LEAVE, YOU GO NOW 肥猪, IT SAY ALL YOU CAN EAT NOT YOU CAN EAT ALL
>>
>>22097496
>eating maliciously
This made me chuckle
>>
>>22097511
Here you sit down, order a drink, then go to the buffet and pick what you want. The waiter comes periodically asking if you want a refill or are you finished and they give you the bill.
>>
>>22096430
Could be worse, a new chinese buffet opened nearby a week before covid. I heard they were amazing having bao buns and all kinds of cool stuff most places don't have. But I didn't get a chance to go right away and then shtf and by the time I got to go later on they were a hollow shell and worse than the already established buffets. I'll forever seethe about what I missed out on.
>>
>>22097511
YOU SCARE MY WIFE
>>
>>22097496
Buffet near me is $30 on weekdays for lunch and $50 on saturdays just for the buffet. I can go through 4 overflowing plates but that's at most $15 worth of food. Plus when I get $4 bottomless coke it's not more than 25 cents worth of syrup.
>>
>>22096430
There's only a couple chain ones left near me. It's sad, all the classic Chinese restaurants are dying because their kids don't want to continue the business. Even the factory that made the almond cookies all the places used closed. Now we only have authentic Chinese restaurants opening instead of the comfy version
>>
>>22096430
have u tried the taiwan hotpot intsead?
>>
>>22097676
>only have authentic Chinese restaurants opening
blame tony the cuck for that.
>>
>>22097496
It's a law of numbers thing it's yes you're gonna have maybe one fat ass that will double the cost of the food but you're also going to have tons of normal people that you can charge the shit out of. Basically casino economics
>>
>>22096568
>why
Losses from soy sauce theft

No more Chinese buffets near me but when I’d first go I remembered thinking >>22097154 is weird (but makes sense for kids)

The chinese place I went to in high school all the time shut down. I used to think I had a special relationship with the owners and it was our little secret. They'd give me free shit for no reason. Then I talked to my dad about the closure and he literally started crying manly tears. Apparently it wasn't just me. Real family run chinese restaurants are one of the best things in life.

your dad cucked them didn't he?

I am not sure the exact scenario you're implying but most likely yes. Yes, he did.
>>
>>22096430
i WISH every chinese buffets would close: i'm tired to go there and see my asian bf gorging himself, getting fat weeks after weeks, it's sickening to watch (really disheartening, he was a twink years ago... NOT anymore!!!)

In central business districts, there are numerous buffets that do by weight only (a very, very small number do AYCE, but they're not as common). By plate? Never seen that but by weight is extremely common.
I took a friend to one back in 2019 or so because I told him how it was the best, most varied buffet ever. He conceded the point after getting japchae, Jamaican jerk pork, corn batter fried shrimp, collards with smoked turkey and some other shit all on the same plate. I told him to get the crab meat egg rolls and he lost his fucking mind at how good they are. If you get there in the morning to grab a quick muffin or something since it's a deli/bodega that just happens to have a buffet, you can see the grandma sitting in the back near the self service water thingy stuffing the egg rolls herself using canned crab meat.
>>
The one I liked closed years ago. They had a way smaller selection but everything was quality. The only ones around me now have unlimited selection but it's all garbage.

Americans literally WEEP when their fast food goes out of business. Literal pigs crying that they have slightly different slop filling their troughs.
>>
>>22096430
Sympathies, Anon. We lost all the ones in my area (IllAnnoys, with Governor Jabba The Hutt Pritzker) during the Great WuFlu DemPanic when kike Pritzker forced all the restaurants to either shut down or do outdoor seating for something like six months.

>>
>>22097496
Fat people can't stuff themselves all at once, Anon. Their stomachs get compressed by all the surrounding blubber.

If you watch those competitive eating challenges, the people who "win" them are usually seriously skinny.
>>
>>22097676
>all the classic Chinese restaurants are dying because their kids don't want to continue the business.
I guess that explains why I haven't been able to find a single decent Chinese restaurant since I moved back to the U.S. three and a half years ago. Seriously, they all absolutely suck now.
>>
find a non-local one...
move to vegas, they have like 6+ of them in a 5 mile radius.

>>
>>22097496
The steadiest stream of their incomes comes from take out, where you just fill up a box or two and pay by weight. Probably half of all people just do that as they'd rather eat at home than in the place. This is garunteed profit
>>
I had one called the super buffet which I didn't realize at the time because of my innocence but it was a money laundering operation
It was only $8 and the food was really good
It also had a tremendous square footage and very few tables. Just a lot of empty space on the floor looking like a hotel lobby
Then one day it just vanished. Like over night it was just completely stripped and closed
