Guess what time it is. It's time for another British food thread! Post examples of delectable British cuisine.

I'll begin; Here we have a chicken parmesan, or 'chicken parmo' which is a thin layer of chicken that is breaded, fried and covered in delicious creamy cheese. with a side of hand-cut fried chips.
>>
>>22096888
That's a beast of a chicken parmo. Only one place sells it in my shitty town and they also do really nice burgers so I always end up having those instead.
>>
>>22096888
The chicken looks fine for what it is. The chips are lacking salt and will be in that poor in between state where they are neither sufficiently crispy+fluffy for that style or the good type of soggier chippy chips which can also be pleasant they'll just be dry. Either from before the oil has been warmed up or they've been sitting around instead of made fresh.

I'm 11 generations removed from England in the States and my ancestors kicked yalls ass, but I respect a good Ploughman's lunch.
My goto is a nice pumpernickel or rye, dried/curred meats, hard boiled egg, cucumbers, onion, pickled peppers, nuts, and a nice cheese like Foenegreek, Reypenaer 2y or feta with honey.
Also mad respect for bangers n mash, onion gravy style.

I'd fuck that.
>>
>>22097359
What is the white stuff? Knowing brits it's probably something fucked like mayo. Hopefully it's sour cream like Russia's dish it reminds me of, Sirniki.
>>
>>22097370
It's clotted cream.
You heat full fat milk for a while then let it cool and the fat rises to the surface.
Then you scoop it off and eat it on scones with jam
>>
>>22096888
That's not creamy cheese, it's bechamel and cheese layered separately. Does taste amazing though.
>>
>>22097882
I have never had it, I think it's more of a Geordie thing though.

>>22096902
What a load of pretentious twaddle, I think you are being critical just for the sake of it, I don't see a problem with them.
>>
>>22097117
>I respect a good Ploughman's lunch.
This. Maybe my favorite meal to eat in England. Nice afternoon in the pub with a few pints and a Ploughman's.
>>
>>22096888
>a thin layer of chicken that is breaded, fried and covered in delicious creamy cheese
The fuck is that? A chicken parm is breaded, fried chicken with layers of tomato sauce, ham and cheese.
>>
>>22097886
It's a Middlesbrough thing specifically, but it's spread all over Teesside and you're usually able to get one easily enough in the rest of the North East. They pop up here and there in the rest of the country but they're never anywhere near as good. If you live that far away you're better off giving it a miss.
>>
>>22096888
That actually looks fucking mint and you're a lying twat if you pretend it's not.

Chicken looks really nice. Fries look sad and soggy. Would probably toast them or air fry them for a few minutes
>>
>>22098276
British chips are not like fries, they don't generally have a crispy outside and can be regarded as soggy, especially from a 'chippy' (fish and chip shop) but there is something about them that makes them very tasty and moreish, perhaps it's the potatoes they use but they are different to fries and what we would call steak fries, even though they look similar.
>>
>>22097928
>It's a Middlesbrough thing specifically
OK my bad.
I knew it was North East, so I get +1 internet point at least but I am from the South West and it's definitely not a thing down here.

>>22098269
Nice, I especially like the spuds but you are going to use gravy aren't you anon?
>>
>>22097370
>What is the white stuff?
Clotted cream. About half way between double cream and butter. Never a low-fat item!
>>
>>22098276
>Fries look sad and soggy.
chip shop chips are always shit. i half expect its because chips need a higher frying temp but they keep their fryers set for fish
>>
>>22098289
Yeah you'd definitely have a hard time finding one down there, chances are there'll be four places in the entire South West that sell them, and they'll only be any good if the business owners are actually from Teesside. Other people just never seem to get them right.
>>
>>22098285
Yeah they look more like wedges or steak fries. Not saying they couldnt be good as im sure they can be but they dont look good in the pic
>>22098430
>call yourself a chip shop
>are fucking terrible at the one thing you're supposed to cook well
Make it make sense. Where do you Brits go for good chips then?
>>
>>22098545
>Where do you Brits go for good chips then?
restaurant or gastro pub
>>
>>22098545
>Where do you Brits go for good chips then?
You find a good a good chippy, most are ok but it's like anything really, some are better than others, as is often case with small family owned businesses.
Restaurants and gastro pubs tend to be worse, they don't have the correct fryers for the job and results vary tremendously, most are commercial frozen chips and are similar to chips you can make at home.
If you are willing to spend loads of money and go to a high-end place, then you may get some triple-cooked chips (ala Heston Blumenthal) but you won't get very many.
>>
>>22098545
>Make it make sense. Where do you Brits go for good chips then?
Traditional chippies that still use beef fat.
>>
>>22099028
My comment was this >>22099027
But I can't argue with your post about beef dripping, it does make the best chips.
>>
>>22098276
Proper chips are supposed to be a little soft. If they're fried too crispy then they hold on to too much oil and become hard to stomach in anything more than a small quantity. They are also much thicker than Americans may assume.
>>
>>22098545
They're fine, that guy just clearly doesn't like the style and wants crispier chips.
>>
>>22098289
of course, and a hell of a lot of it, the gravy

I think they use salt and vinegar too, which I've had once here in the states. It fucking slaps. I wanna try like the mushy peas and chips or whatever. I like the mess of fries they got. They try doing that shit out here but they just put sauce on it, not like curry or a stew of sorts and the fries aren't as thick. I gotta look for a british place specifically, but there's only like Irish places around here. I gotta eat out more. I used to not care about eating out alone but it's not been a thing I've been doing lately and have been retreating lately. Sorry for blogposting, I'm tired and sleep deprived

That's debatable, although scots like to claim everything, even haggis is english.

It was created at the Shish Mahal in Glasgow. Not debatable.

No
It's the most popular theories but the scots do like to shout the loudest.
Others say Bradford which is far more likely.

Yeah, great research from you, but you just sound gay to me. Here's me being as gay as you: others say Andromeda which is far more likely.

u wot m8? I thought the ham and cheese made it a cordon bleu.
Not hating, I'd smash but at least where I'm from Chick parm is just breaded fried chicky and tomato sauce/cheese.

Generally speaking most shops will ask you if you want salt and vinegar before wrapping the food up. Possibly not true if ordered online and self-applying vinegar is a bit more common but salt is almost always asked for as it's the default.
>>
>>22104585
Cordon bleu is chicken stuffed in the chicken and I don't think it has tomato sauce. Parma has the sauce cheese and ham on top.
>>
>>22104698
MB, I know what a bleu is, I just never heard of a Chicky Parm that had ham as an ingredient as well.
>>
>>22104703
>I just never heard of a Chicky Parm that had ham as an ingredient as well.
After looking it up I think it's an Aussie thing. I wasn't aware that the American version was lacking the ham.

Though I did know that you guys serve it on spaghetti for some reason.
>>
>>22104706
Ewww, didn't know I was talking to an Aussie (85% Jeet). I'll politely leave the conversation now and allow you to maintain your tight grip on any shred of relevance you can muster. G'Day Mate.

Because it is flavorful, rich and satisfying. There are multiple kinds of seafood and some vegetables and spicy sausage. Why do you Brits eat eels in fucking jelly? Eels are delicious, why relegate them to such a miserable culinary fate?
The fact that youre trying to make gumbo sound disgusting is hilarious
>>
>>22104706
Almost anything "Parmesan" like chicken, eggplant, veal, etc is served with pasta in America. Usually spaghetti but other long noodles are common too
