Is there any way to make oatmeal not taste like shit? Also, can you twice cook it into something more crispy and less sludgy?

> twice cook it into something more crispy and less sludgy
I suggest you figure out something else to do with your oats besides mealing them
>>
oatmeal just cooked in milk is great. you can cook it in broth or stock. add meat or eggs to it.
>>
>>22098971
make oatcakes instead
>>
butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract

peanut butter and raisins
>>
>>22098971
Nanners and peanut butter. Frozen variety berries too, if you want, but I prefer mine warm.
>>
>Half a cup of oats
>Half a scoop of vanilla protein
>Half a cup of frozen raspberries
>Quarter cup of coconut
>Half a cup of milk
>Stir, cover, chill overnight
Top with a little bit of Greek yoghurt.

You could grind the oats into flour or just buy oat flour and make pancakes if that's what you want.

I like oatmeal though, even plain with nothing added. I think it tastes worse with sweeteners. If you're using water maybe try cooking it in milk. Some berries might be okay and cinnamon.

This would lead to organ failure if consumed by a non-American.
>>
>>22098986
I like how only 1/3 has any real flavor descriptor, and even then it’s just “berry”. The other 2 are just colors.
>>
>>22099000
"Berry" with a blue color is implied to be raspberry. Purple is grape.
>>
>>22098971
Stir in some whipped cream, brown sugar, and top with blue berries
>>
Bananas?
>>
>>22098971
add one of maple syrup, your favourite jam flavour, honey or chocolate hazlenut spread

why are you eating horse food?

I've been thinking about savory oats with egg, do you have suggestions specifically for that? Like is onion actually good on oatmeal if you're going savory?
>>
why do people struggle with eating oats? oatmeal cookies are proof that oats taste good
>>
>>22099215
no theyre proof that oats are mostly tasteless and that sugar and butter tastes good
>>
>>22099194
yes. i treat oats like I treat noodles.
>>
If oats don't taste good to you on their own, then eat something else.
>>
>>22098971
Fried porridge is a dish yes. Let the leftovers chill in the fridge. Then cut it up patties and fry the next day.
>>
>>22099353

Sprinkle some rolled oats in a bowl, pour on some cold milk. Delicious. It's also nice with a few sultanas and raisins, maybe use banana or chocolate whey milkshake instead of plain milk.
>>
>>22098971
Oats are a vehicle, OP
They taste like whatever you put in them
>>
>>22098971
Use less water. Cook it on medium until the water is gone and the oatmeal has distinct separate grains and is al dente. Then add savory toppings of your choice. I like a little olive oil, black pepper, and hot sauce.

Cooking it to mushy gruel consistency and/or adding sweet stuff to it makes it unpleasant. Oatmeal is plenty sweet on its own.

>>22099799
no it kinda tastes like nothing without sugar
>>
we had this thread a couple of weeks ago

im trying to fix the texture
my brain just goes "this is poverty mush" like im in the holocaust and can barely get it down
>>
My daily oatmeal is;
Soaked chia seeds
Half cut, half whole oats
ceylon cinnamon, powdered ginger and nutmeg
walnuts
frozen blueberries and strawberries
sliced banana
hemp hearts
5g creatine
tablespoon of pea protein
drizzle of raw honey
couple drops of monk fruit concentrate

fucken so good, legit look forward to brekky every morning now. you could leave out the extra protein and creatine if you don't exercise tho
>>
>>22099277
If they made Buldak brand instant savory oats would you try them?

>>
>>22100193

>>

Onions work really well, it's actually my prefered way to eat oatmeal.
>>
>>22098971
I add Marmite to mine. There was also this point of time where I cooked oatmeal in the juices from cooking mirepoix and minced meat as an all in one meal.

Give it up, OP. Go make some mug cakes or some other picky eater shit. Oats are for adults with adult palates.

Add white and milk chocolate. Make it in full fat milk instead of water as well. I'd recommend putting in the freezer overnight with a nice layer of whipped cream on the top to make it taste heavenly in the morning.
>>

I told you how already. First make sure you're not using instant or steel cut oats. Get the old fashioned Quaker Oats. It says old fashioned on the package. Boil water. A little more than a cup should be ok. Put in 1/2 cup of oats. You want the water to just cover the oats. Turn the heat down to 4. You the heat below medium but not low. Let it simmer until the water is gone. Wa la. You have now have firm, al dente oatmeal with distinct separate grains. If it's too hard add more water and cook more. This is how to make oatmeal that isn't mush. I've been making oatmeal like that for 20 years. I don't measure the measure anymore because I know how much my pot needs but I think a little more than a cup is right. Remember, you want the water to just cover the oats, you don't want them in a huge amount of water. The more water you use the mushier the oats will be so avoid too much water.

Explain what about it is unhealthy, or what I've been tricked into enjoying. Go on, be explicit, vagueposting coward.
>>22100129
>im trying to fix the texture
I like my method of doing half cut oats and half whole oats. You get a nice blend of the creamier texture with some chew to it.
>>
>>22098971
