Most of the time they're edible but just mediocre. I can't think of a single time I've ever been disappointed by mussels.Also as another sidenote, oysters SUCK despite being marketed as fancy rich people food.

>>22105645Opioid receptors aren't only for pain. You have opioid receptors in your gut. Milk contains weak opioids to slow digestion otherwise it would probably cause diarrhea. It could be that they feel pain, we probably can't say with 100% certainty that they don't. But I've read that the opioid receptors in bivalves could just be for things like when the water is rough, opioids would stop them from opening and slamming shut too forcefully over and over. Pain wouldn't serve much purpose in most bivalves who don't have ways to escape or fight back or manage pain in any way.
