Why don't vegans eat clams and mussels? Most scientists agree clams and mussels do not feel pain or think at all, they are basically just robots or mechanical mechanisms.

Also, sidenote, but I think mussels taste better than clams despite costing less and being less iconic. Lol.

because vegans are performative faggots
>>
if I were vegan I wouldn't eat them because I don't like clams or mussels
>>
>>22105381
I do. The term ostrovegan exists for a reason
>>
i like the black mussel above green mussels, oysters, and clams
not more than scallops though
i've got a thing of frozen mussels in my freezer for breakfast tomorrow.

Without a doubt, it's not even close. It's a challenge to make clams taste good. Most of the time they're edible but just mediocre. I can't think of a single time I've ever been disappointed by mussels.
Also as another sidenote, oysters SUCK despite being marketed as fancy rich people food.

The fuck are green mussels? Scallops are certainly better than clams and oysters, but mussels (I guess black mussels specifically) are still better.

So I've seen the black ones called "blue" on some menus, but they're still black. Green are from new zealand, they're bigger and meatier but I don't like the texture
>>

>oysters SUCK
ye, too bad because they're so nutritious. i'm far from picky but they're just mushy and have made me gag.
>>
>>22105493
Huh, I've never seen that before. You're not from the US I'm guessing? Probably somewhere closer to NZ that would make shipping them easier?
>>
>>22105624
naw, from florida, but worked in a shellfish restaurant but it all came frozen except the blue crab which was local
>>
>>22105624
nta but I see green mussels on the menu at a restaurant I go to in harlem NY. you probably just don't live somewhere that has a lot of seafood eaters. you need to be around either black people or chinese people. I'll probably get banned for "racism" for saying that but the jannies here have never been known for their IQs have they
>>
>>22105381
i googled it and apparently they have opioid receptors in their separate nervous systems so they do feel pain
>>
>>22105645
Opioid receptors aren't only for pain. You have opioid receptors in your gut. Milk contains weak opioids to slow digestion otherwise it would probably cause diarrhea.

It could be that they feel pain, we probably can't say with 100% certainty that they don't. But I've read that the opioid receptors in bivalves could just be for things like when the water is rough, opioids would stop them from opening and slamming shut too forcefully over and over. Pain wouldn't serve much purpose in most bivalves who don't have ways to escape or fight back or manage pain in any way.
>>
>>22105653
plants also seem to have "pain" responses even though they can't do anything against it. these mussels must have some kind of negative feedback if those receptors get triggered during harsh conditions like you mention. they wouldn't feel good about getting eaten
>>
>>22105645
So give them heroin before killing them so they don't feel pain?
>>
>>22105663
Plants react to negative stressors but it's not due to pain. They do have ways to manage things like pests attacking them but it's more like a reflexive chemical reaction than because something is causing "pain". We probably shouldn't unnecessarily harm plants anyway though.

Not every woman who's vegan is lesbian
>>
>>22105481
out of all the things you could pretend to be, why are you pretending to be a vegan
>>
>>22105381
they're a bit of a hassle to cook and eat and more expensive compared to beans and tofu and such, and i just don't really like them all that much
>>
>>22105381
>>22105487
mussels can be disappointing because every portion is huge and dirt cheap so you're sick of them before you finish lol
>>
>>22105381
>do most scientists agree?
yes
>do all scientists agree?
no

also, there's no nutrient unique to clams/mussels that can't be found in plant sources
so not worth the trouble really
>>
>>22105381
>Why don't vegans
don't care.
anyways, know how to tell your LED sign is high quality?
>>
>>22105381
Lesbian vegans eat clams on the regular.
>>
>>22105653
>Milk contains weak opioids to slow digestion
You've got to be fucking kidding me. So instead of spending all this money on fentanyl, I could've just drank a gallon of 2%?
>>
i’m vegan and i consume little bits of living beings all the time.
i also press whole milk powder into tablets and sell them to the angry people outside my house.
