dim sum is just sausage dumplings with half raw noodles, anon.
it's not a style of food.
don't let the chinese bamboozle ya.
>>
Is steaming really that big of a deal that you'd do it in this qty like in OP? I would think all your food would get soggy and less appetizing.

dim sum is a meme. it's all pretty meh. the point is for a bunch of old chinks to sit around a table for hours talking shit about everyone they know while some waitress keeps bringing around tiny plates of nothing

There are always times where a dish is in theory good but the particular place you get the dish from makes it bad. Or sometimes they change the recipe. I write under the assumption that the place is serving a quality version of said food items.

>The best thing to get by far is the egg bun dessert with the cookie on top. The inside should have a sweet egg custard liquid inside. It really needs to have a cookie on top else it's missing that something that makes it really special. Order it at the end of your meal so you can have it hot and fresh.
>Shumai is like a ball of ground pork and shrimp(?) surrounded by a greenish-yellow skin of a noodle texture. There's literally no reason anyone will dislike this one.
>The seaweed (nori) shrimp rolls are cylindrical shaped like an eggroll, and are also surrounded by dough and fried, very tasty. Best to be eaten with that sweet orange sauce
>For dumplings, it's hard not to like the har gow shrimp dumplings with the clear rice dumpling skin. Be sure to have enough hoisen sauce.
Personally (emphasis on this), these three I always get at dim sum, and think everyone normie or asian should get at dim sum. All very likable when they're made right.

Other things I would like to mention

>If you've never had it before, I technically enjoy the sesame ball of fried rice dough surrounding the sweet mung bean paste filling. I only know the name in my language, and I actually never get it at dim sum cause the ethnic church my senpai goes to makes them fresh and perfect every week. This is basically a dessert
This line of thinking actually means I tend to preclude a lot of things at a dim sum place. Have you ever been to a dedicated chinese dumpling place where everything is hand made? They're fucking fantastic - why would I want to get the at dim sum? Can't I get god tier pork belly or bao buns down in Chinatown, and pick up some duck while I'm there? Can't I get basic noodles from Joy Yee? Don't Koreans make spare ribs better? My mother makes excellent rice noodle rolls with fish sauce. I can go on and on. This is a very personal line of thinking; if you lack quality asian or chinese food near you except for this one dim sum place, get em, try them out.

I haven't even touched on foods normie picky eaters wouldn't touch like baby octopus in curry sauce, or offel. For stuff like these, it's the sauce that makes them good, not the medium it's stewed in, so if your place is selling a bad version of the sauce, it's the sauce that's probably the problem. The chicken feet near me is good (sauce), but more difficult to eat that other dishes. One tripe I had was very boring, but a few weeks ago there was this special occasion tripe they were selling, and it was the fucking bomb!
