banh mi is the ultimate sandwich. just get rid of the cucumbers and put some raw white onion on it instead.
Authentic viet locations only have stale baguette. I had to go to a gentrified banh mi place, complete with those dim old school light bulbs, and unfinished real-wood tables to get one where the baguette tasted fresh.
>>22107580BRING THE CUCUMBERS BACK
>>22107583stale is better, adds crunch to the texture. same with po-boys
>>22107590this is why I refrigerate them and bake them slightly so the bread hardens but the inside stays cold
>>22107590The stale ones were not crunchy. The were more like chewy/soggy. The fresh one on the other hand had a crunchy crust.
>>22107590the veggies are giving you plenty of crunch already. give me the fresh baguette.
>>22107580I've had every variant at my local place>S tier: char siu ribs, pork belly>A tier: bolgogi, brisket>B tier: lemongrass chicken, grilled pork>C tier: katsu chicken, shrimpalso they have kimchi mayo and adding that to any of them is god tier shit
>>22107580Keep the cucumber, lose the cilantro.
the carrots and daikon add nothing but filler and I'm tired of pretending otherwise
It's basically an italian sub without cheese but yes it's good because the bread is always excellent.
>>22107615>It's basically an italian sub without cheeseaside from both of them having bread on either side, they have nothing in common.
>>22107615More like a French/Mexican/Southeast asian sub. (It also has cilantro and lemongrass)
>>22107617pork pickled vegetables bread probably hot peppers if your aren't a pussy what else am I missing?
>>22107621Sometimes they will add a fried egg to the beef ones.
>>22107580CARROTS??!!CUCUMBERS!!??THAT'S RABBIT FOODWHERE'S THE CHEESE!!??WHERE'S THE MAYONNAISE!!??0/10 WOULD NOT EAT
>>22107614carrots are sweetradish is bright
>>22107629They have a version with fried spam in it if that helps
>>22107583true. the viet place by me does the best banh mi I've ever had, with homemade shallot butter, and a fresh baguette i think they press a little on the grill. if i get a banh mi in asiatown it always tastes and looks slapdash with not much thought put into composition or flavor.
>>22107629All the viet places in the south slather them with thick layers of chipotle mayo
>>22107580The meat in a regular banh mi always weirds me out. Pate? Head cheese? No thanks. Grilled pork for me.
>>22107729Pate is amazing. I feel bad for people who didn't grow up eating it, so they think it's weird and gross.
>>22107612ditto this
>>22107580>ultimate sandwich>vietnamese>the only distinction is avoiding the usage of cursed american bread/patties>spicy
>>22107580>my fancy sandwich with foreign name to appeal to the hipster zoomer crowdfuck off bro that just a glorified chicken sandwich from subway!
>>22107862>chinese food?>fuck off bro, that's just chicken and rice lel I make that at home every day
As a Vietnamese person, the cucumber would be better if it were pickled too
>>22107881Why not both? In fact, next time I get one, I will add my own pickle and see what happens.
>>22107590You dont forget a place that makes their own bread.
>>22107580For me, its the weird gelatinous cold cuts they have that tastes grotesque on its own but heavenly in a banh mi with a birds eye chili on the side
>>22107629Fat fingers typed this
if you guys are in southern California check out Carrot and DaikonI always get char siu pork or curry fish (crispy fried fish fillets dipped in a green Thai curry)
thread inspired me. rate my local banh mi slop.
>>22108183I was about to say something like "welllll.. food photography is hard" but actually, damn. That actually looks pretty damn good.
>>22107580reuben is the ultimate sandwich
>>22108183I wish I were you. Right now, I'm settling for my weekly subway sandwich, with my own gourmet olive oil and red wine vinegar to make it halfway palatable.
>>22107580The cucumbers stay. Doesn't need onion, and I love onion. The Vietcong made the perfect sandwich and no alterations need to be made
>>22108183Overstuffed, over sauced, bread looks like shit. 4/10 desu senpai
>>22107590stale bread isnt crunchy, thats the problembaguette is only good for a day (best like half a day) after baking
>>22108183If you have to put it in a box you're doing it wrong
>>22108380how else would you package it?
>>22107583it’s not about a baguette. the bread has to have rice flour. it needs to be softer than a baguette
>>22108390Just wrap it up in paper.
It only gets elevated to GOAT by the mayonnaise and your example is missing that
>>22107748it's pureed toxin filter that tastes like the underside of a car mixed with butterit IS weird and gross, and was developed as a way to make organ meat palatable because people were starving
>>22108183left is perfectright is borderline sloppa
>>22108570>organ meatIf only there was a word for that.
>>22107580Soap sandwich.
