Do you guys ever bake? I think baking sucks and takes way too much effort. It usually requires EXACT measurements, ingredients and strict adherance to the recipe or it turns out wrong. Hell it may turn out wrong anyway. I don't want to invest in measuring jugs, a whole new pantry of baking ingredients and a lot of time to make a medicore loaf or cake.

Only exception is probably a pizza because that's just bread except you don't need as much effort as bread and it's more like traditional cooking where you just throw shit on top and throw it into the oven without care.

Only reason I was originally interested in it was making cheaper and tastier bread. Not worth the time and cleaning up afterwards.

>It usually requires EXACT measurements
"I suck at listening to others" that's the reason no one really likes you.
baking is a treat to the people you love by investing some of your personal time.
if you're unable to recognize this, you're a narcissist or psychopath who doesn't care about other people but own outcome
>>
>>22111411
What the fuck is that bot response. Bitch, it's because it's a chemistry and you can easily fuck up. Listening to others? I'm reading a god damn recipe. It's not like cooking when you can vibe it out or substitute ingredients. In baking it's literally a science especially when it comes to using baking powder, soda, or self raising flour and different recipes on different things. I'm cooking for myself, why the fuck did you randomly insist that I must make this for loved ones?

>Do you guys ever bake?
Yes
>I think baking sucks
That's just, like, your opinion, man
>takes way too much effort
Depends what you're baking
>It usually requires EXACT measurements
Depends what you're baking
>strict adherance to the recipe or it turns out wrong
Depends what you're baking
>Hell it may turn out wrong anyway.
Not generally. otherwise, bakeries wouldn't exist
>I don't want to invest in measuring jugs, a whole new pantry of baking ingredients and a lot of time
Don't
>make a medicore loaf or cake.
Git gud
>pizza [is] just bread except you don't need as much effort as bread
Bread doesn't need much effort
>it's more like traditional cooking where you just throw shit on top and throw it into the oven without care.
It is impolite to poop on pizza and not care about having done so after.
>Only reason I was originally interested in it was making cheaper and tastier bread.
You can and it is
>Not worth the time
Very little is active time. Most of it is inactive time
>Not worth the cleaning up afterwards.
What cleaning up afterwards? Cake uses one or maybe two bowls. Cookies and bread use one. It's barely any different than whisking eggs for an omelette.

My brother has the opposite problem. He's an engineer and wants everyfuckingthing perfectly precise.
>Hey Anon, do you remember how to make [insert dish our mother used to cook]
Yes, you [gives estimated measurements, cooking based on look and feel rather than time and other accurate-but-imprecise directions]
>why do you and mom never measure anything!? Just tell me how many micrograms of garlic and kilotons of onion to use!
Because we actually fucking cook. Your fault for marrying an American woman, bro. Enjoy your chicken bacon ranch pasta Alfredo.
>>
>>22111395
>It usually requires EXACT measurements
Just get a scale, makes it pretty easy.

No knead bread recipes are much better, usually produces better bread and it's less work as long as you can plan ahead.
>>
>>22111395
you esteemed gentlemen are toasting in a baker bread
>>
>>22111395
if you're too stupid for bread to be your poverty chow you have to pay the potato tax

Wish I could say that I did, but I live in a major metro area with a bunch of French and Italian bakeries within walking distance. I have absolutely no motivation to try making my own when these places will do a better job than I ever would.
>>
>>22111395
I just guess measurements and it always works
Add things as needed until the dough feels right, done
>>
>>22111395
Make tortillas. Close enough is good enough. No weighing needed.
>>
>>22111395
every time I try to make bread I fuck it up, because it either develops too much gluten or not enough, no matter how much I knead it, it sticks to my hands like glue, and it's such a little bitch about rising
>>
>>22111476
i do measure the flour since i want to replicate the size of my breads, but yeah i just slowly keep adding water until i like how it feels
>>
>>22111395
Why not make a batch of pizza dough and use the leftover dough to shape a loaf? I don't really bake bread that often because of the effort and clean up involved but if I'm making pizza I always make some extra dough and use it for bread.
>mediocre loaf
Well that's a skill issue then. I like that I can make breads in weird and fun shapes that you wouldn't find at the baker or grocery store. Have you tried making homemade garlic bread OP?
>>22111451
>carbs are poison
I know you are jesting but keto actually does cure some health conditions. Also it's the only natural cure for epilepsy afaik.
>>
>>22111700
So you're saying you know better than the Lord? Jesus knows better than you and is better than you. If He gave people bread, then bread is good and saying otherwise is an implicit claim that you know better than God, which is literal blasphemy.
>>
>>22111700
0/10 extremely unfunny low quality ban worthy post.
>>
>>22111691
>skill issue
Indeed however I don't want to master a skill I'm bad at and not that interezted to invest time into.
>make garlic bread
I usually just eat my garlic raw but I haven't considered it. Usually because I'm a fat fuck that definitely will eat all of it without issue. This is why I try to eat rice instead because rice is garbage but fine in a meal. I ate a whole bulb of garlic before on just bread and I loved and hated it at the same time. Eating raw english mustard would of been preferable. It's difficult to find food I wanna eat pure english hot mustard with. Also can't think of things to mix vinegar with so I just sometimes drink it. I luckily don't have that issue with hotsauce which goes on basically everything.

he's been going around to every thread just to say carbs bad for days/weeks now
>>
>>22111731
He's not entirely wrong imo. Just refined carbs or sugars. Carbs in rice, bread, pasta are fine. Just added sugar is bad but I use to drink booze so like it's not that bad. Your brain entirely relies on sugar so cutting out all carbs is indeed retarded.
>>
>>22111742
>He's not entirely wrong imo
he claims carbs are all bad. not some carbs. and won't respond to asking why japanese people aren't all fat despite the rice consumption.
>>
>>22111750
Because rice fucking sucks. You just eat enough to not starve and they throw away the rest you don't want because it's so god damn cheap or they just store it for egg fried rice.

Who cares about a schizo spammer anyways. It's fun to watch and you can just ignore him instead of replying.
>>
>>22111731
he still is, he's ban evading

this guy gets it.
It isn't hard. Varying ingredients and volumes in many types of cooking doesn't ruin things. I've been playing with a rhubarb ricotta cake recipe and have substituted ingredients, changed volumes by half cups, used different size cake pans including doing it in little cupcake tins AND varied the baking time to account for all of this. Only once did it come out slightly under baked.
And I rarely measure when I make sourdough.
All the autists that measure everything down to the gram can choke on this. My stepfather was a miller for 40+ years. No batch of flour you get is going to be the same as the last. The protein amount is going to differ. The makeup of every batch of flour is going to differ enough to make your neurotic measurements not matter. Does it help? Yes. But you still have to learn by doing it enough to sense the difference. And you can.
>>
what's the point of letting your bread proof and then knocking all the air out of it and then letting it proof again and then knocking all the air out of it again and then reforming it?
>>
>>22114966
Prevents big, uneven air pockets and keeps the crumb more uniform (aka smaller, more even air pockets). Some breads need just one punch and some need another before shaping.
>>
>>22111415
honestly, once you learn to bake you will find that you actually can bake by vibes, you just have to actually understand the chemistry. you don't necessarily need precise measurements, but you do need to know what to do if, for example, your dough is too wet and how to correct that. having precise measurements is just like having guardrails for people who don't have that intuition developed yet.
and btw, cooking is chemistry too, it just has more room for error. but if you really understand the chemistry of cooking, a lot of that will carry over to baking, and vice versa. they are complementary skills.
>why the fuck did you randomly insist that I must make this for loved ones?
not that anon but I do think the real joy in baking is sharing with people. I think it is with cooking too, but more so with baking. I probably wouldn't enjoy baking much if I didn't have anyone to share with.

anyway, if you don't enjoy it, don't do it, nobody's holding a gun to your head.
>>
>>22111730
>however I don't want to master a skill I'm bad at and not that interezted to invest time into.
Ok, so don't. What's the point of this thread? Why do you need validation to...not do something you don't want to? Just don't do it.
>Also can't think of things to mix vinegar with so I just sometimes drink it.
Jesus dude. Sounds like you suck at cooking too. Vinegar can go in almost anything, acidity is an essential component to flavour.
>>
>>22111395
The exact measurements meme is really only a thing for stuff like pastry and cookies, once you get to know how it should be you can eyeball bread or pizza dough easily.
>>
>>22115198
>The exact measurements meme is really only a thing for stuff like pastry and cookies
Nope. I often change ratios in cookies to get different textures or results. My simplest cookie recipe doesn't even use any measurements at all, actually. I make them entirely by feel.
>>
>>22111395
i've had some success in using partially substituting durum flour and adding EVOO in my focaccia/pizza dough, i suggest experimenting with it, really improved the texture.
cold fermenting is also great, if time expensive
>>
No, bread makes you a fatty.

Your mother bakes her pussy onto my fucking mouth
>>
>>22111395
the only reason I don't bake bread is because it's not worth the effort for one loaf and I don't have enough people to feed to justify making more than one loaf
>>
>>22115648
it's the same reason I don't make homemade pizza. a pan pizza is easy to do a single serving of but I don't like it.
