This is Seattle-style teriyaki. For some reason they cut the chicken into strips here. Very different from Sarku Japan.
>>22111715That is not Seattle Teriyaki lmao
>>22111715
>>22111768Reverse image search shows it's from Lacey, WA about an hour from Seattle, seems close enough
>>22111768yeah it is>>22111715how is this done in Japan?
>>22111876>how is this done in Japan?presumably like Sarku
>>22111770looks tasty
>>22111715Strips makes it chopstick friendly. Also fork friendly for amerilards. I've seen & gotten teriyaki chicken done on a stick (skewer). It's good, but yeah it is in no way chopstick friendly.
I don't get Seattle teriyaki. It's just burnt chopped up chicken thighs (yuck!) with a sticky sweet sauce on top of whitu raisu. Wow. So impressive.
>>22111910sounds pretty good to me to be honest family
>>22111715Du's Grill in Portland is better than any teriyaki place in Seattle.
I looked up Seattle-style Teriyaki. It looks and sounds exactly like the stuff that you'd get from hole in the wall "Japanese" (really Korean or Chinese-owned) places that I used to go when I lived in LA. Fuck, I used to go to this slightly nicer version of the same kinda place called Emon in Burbank and I really miss it, it feels like most areas have nothing but sushi and ramen places these days and all the old-school bento kinda Japanese places are gone. (Pic is from Emon but not one I took.)
>they cut the meat into strips>that's the part that's "very different" from japan>not the disgusting corn syrup sauce
>>22111715>>22111876>>22111878Teriyaki is barely even a thing in Japan. To the extent it exists, it's pretty much 99% for fish.
>>22112009teriyaki chicken isn't eaten in japan
>>22112009The teriyucki sauce in Japan is also sweet. And why are you posting that awful man?
>>22112018hmmm
>>22112081>also sweetit is, what was your argument?
>>22112092Yeah, for all the american tourists. You can also find "california rolls" sold in Japan, what's your point?
>>22112555>here's a wikipedia screenshot that makes japanese food not japanesedo you another wikipedia screenshot about how they use shit corn syrup sauce for teriyaki for american tourists
>>22112593>do you another wikipedia good morning saar, please stop moving to japan
>>22111878>presumably like SarkuSarku was literally founded by four chinese guys. It's basically chinese-american cuisine.
i would eat this. i dont give a fuck about what is culturally acceptable when my fat american brapper hits that chair.
>>22111715That's a big portion.
>>22112593At least he didn't use chatGPT
>>22112599I accept your concession
>>22112951>>22113044Yes, teriyaki chicken is as japanese as california rolls. I guess I'm sorry if that triggered you?
>>22113202That's not really anything distinctive. You described every city on the West coast: Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego.
>>22113197does that help US teriyaki dishes be less disgusting and sweet
>>22113202I’m from Sedro-Woolley. It’s great.
>>22113202no one cares you whiny retarded faggot go deepthroat a revolver barrel
>>22111978It pretty much just is the west coast style of korean recipes paired with Mexican grilling technique.
>>22111978Yeah. Korean places will do "bento" style (except with their tiny tapas dishes). Japanese places around me do not. They are just like you said: strictly either sushi or ramen or both, but not bento.
>>22113223I'm so sorry
>>22112010the heat of the teriyaki pork belly cooks the egg
>>22111768Looks like it to me. >>22111715Which restaurant did you get it from?I know it's not my old favorite place near Southcenter, because I tried going back there in 2023 and they were gone. :-( I used to get extra salad, only one ball of rice, and no caterpillars. (I found a caterpillar in my salad once and told the cashier, who said "yeah that happens sometimes", so after that I made a point of varying between ordering extra caterpillars or no caterpillars.)
>>22112018It absolutely is
>>22112010they have teriyaki its just barbecue and its not that thick glossy shit we have here. its like mirin, soy sauce, sugar, kombu, heat it through till the sugar melts through the sauce. take off heat. grill some meat (i like buying sausage and chicken skin on skewers) and paint the sauce on while its grilled.
