Obviously it's absurd long term, but is raw veganism a good strategy as a temporary diet for weight loss? All the studies seem to indicate that people always lose a lot of weight on it.
>>22112865raw vegetables retain all their water, so it adds volume and fills you up quicker
I think focusing on veggies is a good idea but you'll lose heart very quickly if you can't keep your protein intake up. I would say committing to steamed or fresh veggies, beans, boiled roast steamed or baked potatoes, and chicken is good way to get everything you need nutritionally while eliminating cravings and making it easier to maintain a calorie deficit
>>22112865It works to the extent it restricts calories. Clean/plain vegetables tend to have low calories. You can still get fat off of vegetables if you bread and fry them or drown them in oil, of course. There was a popular weight-loss soup in past decades called 'peel-a-pound' soup, made with tomatoes, onions, and shredded cabbage, and other optional additions like spinach or some green beans. It worked due to caloric restriction; not simply because of the fact it had vegetables.
>>22112865>All the studies seem to indicate that people always lose a lot of weight on it.You would lose weight when you become malnourished.Long term vegans have to take supplements, or they end up pretty sick.
>>22112873>>22112871>>22112868Did any of you read the word "raw"? I'm distinguishing from regular veganism, as do the studies and results
>>22112874I don't see any reason for all the extra burden of choking down exclusively raw flora. Just eat lean and eat all food groups and burn some extra calories every day.
>>22112877Raw vs. cooked won't produce any notable differential in terms of weight loss.
>>22112892Cooked is just much more enjoyable and palatable
>>22112865Only if you're autistic enough to tolerate it and your gut is good to begin with>t. rotgut
High protein is the best weight loss diet. Protein takes a lot of energy to digest, and digests slow. This means you're sated for a long time, and burn calories by simply processing food. Vegetables on the other hand are garbage; their high volume might trick you temporarily into satiety, but that satiety disappears quickly, you barely spend any time or effort digesting them, and you get barely anything out of them, aside from calories. This will leave you hungry quickly, fat and weak.
>>22112892Yes it does. Cooking involves extra fat.
>>22112905Just steam or airfry.
>>22112865It’s as effective and dumb as the carnivore diet to lose weight. At least with Keto you can get everything you need in terms of fiber, fat, and protein.Becoming malnourished to lose weight is genuinely really stupid and can create other health issues when your body is already struggling under how ever much extra weight you’ve got.
>>22112904Not actually true for raw vegetables, but raw veganism is still a bad strategy
>>22112947I guess you could add some hard to digest ones to lean meat for fiber, like artichokes or kale, but vegetables alone for weight loss are a fool's.. foolery
>>22112892Apparently raw leads to more weight loss because it makes it difficult to eat more, as cooking typically reduces the volume.
>>22112964It’s hard to eat too many calories of only meat too though. That’s a stupid reason to go with a one-sided diet. >>22112960Yes, or an idiot’s idiocy?
>>22112865If you want to lose weight do the potato diet thing
>>22113015That sounds even worse honestly.
>>22112874The protein point still holds.
>>22112871Cabbage soup diet can be pretty good when you spice it up with hot sauces and add lean meats to it. But your body still craves fat all the time so you will get tired of eating it. I always wanted to put rice in there too but knew it would negate the purpose.
>>22112865>is raw veganism a good strategy as a temporary diet for weight loss?your body will enter starvation mode and centralize your fat around your organs, making it effectively unhealthy.if you add a bit of meat to your salads then you'll be fine.
>is the [meme] diet a good strategy as a temporary diet for weight loss?yes and true for any diet, as long as diet involves you stuffing fewer calories into your fat fucking face
>>22112865Not really. You'll lose weight if you stick with it but you'll probably be unhappy and that can sometimes make people end up getting frustrated then bingeing on junk food. It also doesn't help create something that you can stick with long-term which is more important than crash dieting. You could eat more low calorie food without having to get on something so restrictive. Just eat more fruit, vegetables, whole grains, etc. if you want and limit the refined carbs and especially refined oil. Don't drink alcohol or soda, milk is probably okay because it's more nutritious and filling.
>>22112865I think doing like a week or two raw vegetarian diet once a year in the spring time is really healthy.
>>22112865Just eat broccoli, salads, olive oil and protein. You shouldn't think of it as a diet, it's permanent.Once you learn how to make great tasting salads, it's difficult to go back to eating your processed carb slop.
>>22112865you could try vegan keto for a few months, as in nuts, tofu, salads, etc. You can even eat firm tofu raw if you really, really want to.
Weight loss is entirely calories in < calories out. Get some decent exercise in, even walking for an hour a day can burn some bonus calories. Avoid overly calorie heavy shit, keep the meat lean, no junk food or ice cream obviously. You still want hearty filling foods. Personally when I lost weight I found that beans are great for your main meals, they are ridiculously filling, dirt fucking cheap and great for you. They err towards the side of higher calories so again, keep them for your main meals, I'd keep the raw veggies for snacking. You basically can't gain weight noshing on vegetables casually.
