You can thank “Energy Star” for things like this. Modern appliances don’t use enough water to clean, or electricity to heat-dry properly anymore. There was a time when cleaning the dishwasher/clothes washer was an oxymoron and clothes always came out dry the first time in a dryer cycle. Thanks to “efficiency ratings”, you get disgusting buildup in the dishwasher and wet dishes that have been “heat dry”, musty washing machines, and damp clothes that your $1000 dryer’s sensor says are “dry”. Also, these appliances will die in less than 10 years, while your mom’s are still going past 30.My own dishwasher gets black sludge around the seals and in the bottom. The heat-dry coil died, so I took it apart, and there was black sludge caked down around the drain filter and sensors.
