butter is just lube to make chewing bread easier
>>22120035>butter is just lube toDo you have to sexualize everything?

>>22120035bread is just a vehicle for butter
>>22120035>>22120156Bread and butter are equal partners in the equation, and neither should be neglected. They should both be of good quality because this is a meal of just the two parts. The bread should be slightly warm but not too hot so as to immediately melt the butter, because that diminishes the butter's texture and by extension its flavor when you eat it. The butter should be room temp because that is when the flavor comes out the best, and ideally cultured as any table butter ought to be.I don't want to catch either of you using K-on pictures with uneducated opinions around here ever again, understood?
>>22120035Too slow, loser!
What about peanut butter?

>come back to thread>tourists all nuked from orbit and animechads prevailI'm reminded that this site still does some things right.Who makes their own butter here? I do a big batch once a year or so and freeze individual portions to retrieve for when I'm in the mood.
>>22120637When my cow is in milk I make kefir cultured butter with the cream. Extremely good.
>>22120737I've never done kefir, I'll try that next time. I've done with plain greek yogurt and skyr to similar results. I imagine kefir would give a more distinct flavor.
>>22120572you clearly eat too much breadthat is not a fault inherent to bread as a food item
>>22120762Yeah a little funkier in a good way. Kefir has yeasts and a more complex bacterial profile than commercial yogurts. I was using raw milk as well. The other thing that changes flavor is fat content during fermentation. Culture reacts differently in a high fat low lactose cream. Since I use a cream seperator I can get super high fat % cream. Solid or near solid at room temp type thick. It made a cultured butter that tasted like white chocolate/cocoa butter. Incredible for honey butter toast and other sweet things, but not so good for just simple butter + salt toast and other savory applications.Using a standard single cream and letting it get nicely tangy makes a butter that's better for savory things like a classic european style cultured butter.
>>22120786This is genuinely very interesting to hear. What sort of cream separator do you use? I'm seeing a lot of options online with widely varying prices. The idea of being able to further increase the fat content of my cream beyond typical commercial levels is very appealing to me.

>>22120035Do not shitpost with images of my wife Yui.
>>22120792It doesn't work as efficiently with already seperated cream, and cleanup is kind of painful. You also need to heat the milk to around 100 degrees to efficiently seperate the cream.Usually I wait until I have around 8-9 gallons of milk and seperate it all at once. Takes maybe 1.5 hours to heat the milk and seperate. The chinese ones work fine, but you need to be careful to not run them too fast or they'll start throwing skim in your cream channel. I paid 165 for a 100L/hour one. I would say it was doing maybe half that.
>>22120838Alright, I appreciate the info and advice. I'll be picking one up soon to fuck with when I'm making butter again, I don't usually make sweet-style butters but I'll dive into it with this.

>>22120035No, the butter doesn't help the bread slide down because it gets turned into mush before you swallow it anyway. Dry bread is easy to swallow so long as you chew it enough.>>22120067Lube isn't (inherently) sexual.
>>22121272yes, chewing is the point at which lubrication is needed, eat a pair of sandwiches with and without butter and you'll notice, if you use tougher, denser homemade bread such as they would've in the past when the practice of buttering bread was established it will be especially apparent
>>22120737Pls post a pic of your cowe.

I love butter. Perhaps the most versatile fat.

>>22121272>>22121277additionally, note the common idiom "[thing/activity] is our bread and butter", the origin of this phrase is that in the past many families were so poor that the most common meal they ate and the one they depended on to survive was quite simply a few slices of buttered bread, try eating bread entirely by itself and compare the difficulty of it to the same with a spread of butter, you will no longer have any doubt that the original motive for the practice of buttering bread was to supply lubrication
