Pizza from Rastrelli's in Clinton, Iowa.

We used to have a Rastrelli's in Davenport when I was a kid and they sold the first pizza by the slice I'd ever seen. But it wasn't like this. It was thick and rectangular and had some kind of soft wheat-forward crust.

What's your weird or crappy local pizza?

I grew up in a small city that still serves this slop. They have been in business for 40+ years.

Reminds me of Chicago's tavern-style. The sausage is different though.

Looks good if you just removed the unhealthy bread and put the rest in a casserole dish.

I wish you'd told me about this place last week, before I drove back and forth across the entire length of Iowa TWICE.

Chicongoan here, for me it's Costco pizza. But if you want weird, Edwardo's and Nancy's both make "stuffed pizza" which is basically deep dish with another layer of dough stretched across the top and tomato sauce put over that. Personally I find it rather pointless and that it just adds more unnecessary carbohydrates, but whatever.

there's a specific offshoot of the chicago cracker crust that seems to be ever present in flyover midwest. it's like the cracker but thicker and puffier, this leads to you having both crisp crunch and some nice chewy thickness. not that weird I've never heard of any recipe on the internet that references it besides the standard super thin straight Chicago style.

That's what Happy Joe's crust is like. I've never seen them do a square cut, but this is their crust exactly.
