As far as the manchild association goes, it's probably because children love them due to the tenders (or nuggets if we're including those) being soft and consistent. There are no surprises. When an adult demands the same of their food and doesn't allow for exceptions, it limits the social environment around them that involves food. Eating together is one of the oldest human customs so it's an important one to be flexible with.
