Me Din Dins

Going international again lads, for my first trip to Sicily and Palermo. And I must say what a place, hot and chaotic and occasionally smelly but so welcoming and historic and the food has been delicious so far.

Kept it simple last night, I had the Glassa which is almost like a potato and beef stew with pasta, my missus had the Sugo di Salsiccia Ragu which was gorgeous. We had aracine and panelle too, like a chickpea fritter.

Very nice and very cheap, like €35 with two drinks each.

Is Italy one of those places where the people pretend they can’t speak English even though everyone can? I’d like to go but I can’t really be bothered to learn or speak linguini spaghetti luigi.

Nah I've generally found people in Italy very friendly, north and south. I only use basic phrases like "vorrei... per favore" and such and that's more than enough. One guy today asked me if I spoke Italian lel, I said just a little but he seemed pleased.

Not me lads, rude of him to pretend. I'm working class myself, I can sit in the roughest pub and have a good chat, or at the other end I've somehow met several ambassadors and not felt too out of place. Such is life.

>>22123274
Not much really mate lol, just have a decent steady job and over the years I've built up a decent enough surplus. Hull is cheap as fuck as well as friendly and historic.

Starter was a taster board and it was really really nice, mopping up all the sauce with crusty bread. The panella was really good too.

The aubergine and I think artichokes in tomato sauce were actually amazing. I think the meatballs were swordfish.

have you not traveled much Anon? in most of the world even the smallest amount of effort to speak the local language and be curious about the culture will greatly endear you to the people. I've only experienced what you describe in a few large cosmopolitan cities. Honestly, the U.S. is one of the few nations where that attitude is widespread even outside cities. I've heard from a couple people that much of China is that way as well but i've never been and can't comment.

Best Din Dins thread ever? Definitely in the running. Enjoy your travels. We live in Maine where the whole world comes in the summer so we stay put during the warm months. Traveling to Spain the late Fall though. Maybe i'll do a thread while we're there.

Prawn and shrimp pasta with pesto and pistachio tonight lads. It was bloody nice. In a trattoria that feels like their front room, all the plates and glasses are mixed up and you can see in the kitchen and the TV is going through Inter Milan's transfer rumours.

Missus had a carbonara as the menu was "too fishy", the mardy shite. It was nice too.

We don't really have the climate for this.

Having said that, across the river from you is Grimsby (Ok it's not what it used to be) but with the seafood coming in, we could have made more of it. Such a shame.
>>
>>22126553

Just a point of interest, how are the prices?

I guess Sicily gets it's seafood locally but I lived in the South of France for a while and the seafood was pretty inexpensive compared to Britain, even though the Langoustines, Oysters and Mussels came from Britain?
