>>22123264OP, name something you would cook in a cast iron pan besides cornbread and breakfast fare. It’s a meme.
>>22123264I think carbon steel is probably better than cast iron.
>>22123273steak. everytime i cook a steak in mine it's the new best steak i've ever had in my life.
>>22123280Spared.
>>22123280The best steak is deep fried.
>>22123279I prefer carbon steel but it seems more difficult to season

I rinse my cast iron with a tiny bit of dish soap and a light scrub with a dish brush and it's fine. I don't know why people are so adamant about having disgusting dirty pans.
>>22123340Same, but I have long ago realized the internet is full of retards.
>>22123340It's because your average internet "cook" has no idea how to control heat and just burns the fuck out of every pan they use. Cast iron requires a little more intuitiveness to keep the heat right, but is worth it.
>>22123340>not doing the kenny steam
>>22123397What does Kent really eat besides his young wife's pussy?
>>22123264The main perk of a cast iron pan is getting to bash in the skull of the dipshit that leaves it to soak overnight and/or puts it in the dishwasher to "help you"

>>22123434You can soak it in hot water with some dish soap for a bit if you got caked on shit to loosen it up to wipe it out with a dish scrubber. Or you can just boil some water in it for the same effect if you wanna be autistic. Same prinicple as deglazing fond.
I like my cast iron, it's my go to ban for bacon and eggs in the morning, steaks and burgers in the winter, pan fried chicken, and pizza occasionally.
why cant i be allowed to love nonstick pans best without being bullied?
>>22123662Nobody really cares it's just internet faggotry.
As a slob who owns only a single pan (skillet), I love my cast iron. It just werks, and seasoning it in the oven was fun.
>>22123662Because it's the console wars of /ck/ and you are an unsophisticated manchild nintendo fan.
>>22123675i dont interest in nintendo games
it somehow gives steak a similar taste to being grilled on an open fire. not exactly the same but almost there. meanwhile other pans make the steak taste like it was boiled or steamed.
>>22123402They are of similar age, he just looks 80 years old because he spent his life all day in the sun cattle driving and cooking for ranch hands.
>>22123273how would you feel if you didn't cook breakfast fare?
>>22123264>what they think about cast ironIt's a pan.
>>22123726I don't understand the question sir. I did cook breakfast fare.
>>22123285This. Most normies don't even know what cast iron is.
For me it’s stainless steel.
>>22123279Not better, useful for different things. Realistically you need one 10" and 8" of both cast iron and carbon steel, and one 10" stainless pan for acidics. Those are all the pans you will ever need, and they will last your entire life. I've had the same lodge cast iron pans since I got my first place at 19. That was in 1995.
What inference will you draw from their answers?
>>22123895yep. stainless requires great skill
>>22123264cast iron badstainless steel goodMy great great grandmother to grandmother - all had carbon steel. Then the world moved to cast aluminium but turns out it's poison. Why did I fall for the meme, no one likes them outside of the south of US. I have 2 now, using them 1/10th of the time near a stove.
>>22123285based
>>22123402Sheeeit I thought that was his daughter
>>22123264True, if they think cast iron pans are the second coming then they're probably a cooklet midwit. They have barely any uses besides cooking steak or frying potatoes. A good stainless is infinitely more useful and easier to cook with.
>>22123264How do i stop being scared and use my brand new cast iron skillet? I just have to wash in soap and water then season it with oil right? Can i use high temp avocadooil?
>>22125044Add triple the oil than seems reasonable.
>>22125044The only thing you really need to know about cast iron as a noob is the way it heats. It is very very heavy and therefore takes quite a bit longer to get up to temp. But once it does, it stays much hotter much longer than others. So it's easy to get surprised with sudden burning. Once it comes up to temp, lower the heat by a solid amount to keep things where you need it.

>>22125962>cast iron is better!>you only need to do like 1h maintenance with it every day or everything will stick>it will get hot as fuck when used and it will remain that hot for hours and burn everything>you also need to spend 1l oil every day on it or everything will stick to it>it also weights like 10kg and is obnoxious to store and use>and don't even think about cooking something like eggs on it or it will stick!
>>22125988That's oil with eggs, not eggs.
>>22125970>mfw i didn't do any maintenance on mine for years and it still is nonstick and i dont even clean it>>22125988beast mode
>>22125970Literally takes me under a minute to clean mine, sorry you are retarded. You only need to season it once if you got an old unused pan that needs to be restored. All cast irons come pre-seasoned.
