Tips on how to make my cottage pie burnt on top? I prefer when my cottage pie is almost burnt on top but the problem is if it’s in oven too long the potatoes can almost turn into a soup like texture when I like a good solid potato

Is there a specific way I should mash the potatoes or ingredients to add for a nice firm potato layer with the burnt crispy bits on top?

Use a blowtorch or braise it in the oven for 2 minutes. There's no other way.
