Question for the uncs on here. Was a footlong at subway really $5?
>>
yeah and there was a song and everything, for me it was a triple lunchmeat combo on italian herbs & cheese
>>
>>22124541
Only in Mexico and only on Ash Wednesday.
>>
I got a footlong sub from the supermarket today for $3.50 and it's better than the shit Singhway sell.
>>
>>22124541
I honestly have no idea. I didn't eat there 25 years ago and I don't eat there now. I don't eat with people who eat there.
>>
Yes but I would pay a little extra for an Italian BMT I stead of the regular Italian
>>
>>22124541
Limited sandwiches were, if they had to toast it or if it were a special one, it might've been $6.99, but generally a regular cold cut style sandwich (basically all of them in OP's pic) was genuinely $5 Chips and a drink was just $2.50 extra. I remember it being just shy of $8 for a footlong, drink, and chips.

Fuck last time I was at Jersey Mikes it was $16 for a foot long philly cheese steak, drink, and chips.
>>
It really was a great deal but now that I'm older I know how to make my own fucking sandwiches and if I did the math I'd say they're probably like $2 each
>>
>>22124541
No, because the tax in most states made it more than $5
>>
They used to have Round sandwiches for $2. Going back to the prior century on that one.
>>
>>22124541
>Available at participating Subway restaurants on Saipan
>>
>>22124649
yeah, both of them!
>>
Subway actually tasted good before the $5 footlong and the death spiral in quality that caused.
>>
>>22124541
Forgive me for the digression but 2005 or so, you could get TWO Jersey Mike's footlongs ( smoked turkey with EVERYTHING, including provolone) for less than $20.
I don't have any receipts but iirc it was $16 and change.
I would buy two of the Big Grab ruffles or lays and have 2 nice meals.
>>
>>22124541
>Was a footlong at subway really $5?
YES.
2008 commercial.

zamn, cant wait for this unsustainable business model to collapse
>>
>>22124541
used to actually be a foot long, too.
>>
Yep. First time i went to the US in 2007 they had the 5 dollar footlongs and i had one right next door to my hotel. And back then their ingredients weren't garbage either so I ate them almost every day for 3 weeks.

>but muh yoga mat bread

Yep and they also had the "Sub Club" card. You got a stamp for every sub you bought, and when you got 8, you turned in the card and got a free sub. If you became cool with the workers, they would sometimes hook you up with a couple free stamps once in awhile.
>>
Without the $5 footlong deal there is literally no reason to go to Subway
>>
yeah and it was beautiful
>>
Their Italian seasoning is so good. I don't know why they never just slapped a label on it and sold it in stores. I know it's just oregano, basil, whatever but there's had a unique taste. Maybe a little msg
>>
>>22125370
I remember working at subway when Italian Herb & Seasoning bread dropped. It was popular, but I still stuck with Wheat Honey Oat on my Steak and Cheese because it contrasted so well, and complimented the peppers and onions i'd toast up with it.
Unlike this post, it doesn't have sage in the herb blend.
Subway has been bad for over a decade. RIP.
>>
>>22124767
>five
>five dollar
>five dollar foootloonnggg
>any any any any
>something something i don't remember
Fuck it wasn't even that long ago but it makes me feel old that somebody would even ask if whether or not a sub was actually $5 when they used to advertise about it constantly.
>>
>>22125443
Anon... The $5 footling was introduced almost 20 years ago
>>
>>22124541
This is so egregious I swear. A part of me eagerly awaits for the economy to crash alongside food shortages so fast food companies actually begin to suffer.
>>
the 5 dollar footlong was their shittiest subs. the cheesesteak was always like 9 dollars and with double meat it was like 13 dollars evens when they had 5 dollar footlongs.
>>
>>22125641
You're kinda missing the point here...
>>
>>22124541
I haven't had subway for years but in the early 2010's the one I went to had a thing where everyday one sandwich would be discounted so I would always pick the discount of the day and iirc it was something like €2.50.

We used to be a proper country
>>
>>22125641
I usually got the meatball sub, which was one of those that was $5.
>>
>>22124541
Jesus Christ. 20 dollarydoos for a footlong assembled by a barely sentient teen and a bag of chips with a small cup of goysyrup. We truly live in a society.
>>
I complained when they stopped making a seafood special footlong that went over $2.99.

It was the 80s though so most of that was my coke money.

Seriously though, I want a seafood sub footlong for $2.99 again. 5 dollars is still too expensive. Can get like 5 double cheeseburgers for that.
>>
>>22126327
How much would you pay if it was a moderately sentient teen
>>
>>22126346
Still not $20, that's for sure.
>>
>>22124541
That's what the ancient ads said
5
5 dollar foot loooonnng
>>
>>22126346
I don't like my teens sentient or conscious really.
>>
>>22126354
>>
>>22124582
Based
>>
>>22125743
not really. I literally never got a 5 dollar footlong they were undesirable subs.
>>
>>22126354
dude...
>>
>>22126354
What makes teens special if they're unconscious the whole time anyway?
>>
>>22126470
Less resistance and noise.
>>
>>22125443
That commercial drove me fucking nuts, I don't know why but I found it incredibly annoying, and yet to this day it lives in my head rent free and started playing in my head the instant I saw this thread.
>>
Back in the day a footlong was $5, a McChicken or McDouble was $1, two tacos and a drink and chips from taco bell was $2. There used to be days where you could get an entire happy meal for $1.

People born after the 90's have no idea how fake everything is these days, and how much inflation has increased compared to the amount you make.

Fucking soft drinks from vending machines used to cost a quarter.
>>
This is actually what shit used to cost 20 years ago

>The primary tool by which Americans measure inflation is the price of fast food slop
>They even created the "big mac index" because a majority of American spending is on fast food
You can't make this up.

>>
>>22124541
Wtf $15 for a slimy nasty half sandwich.
At that price I could buy a giant bag of chips for $5, deli meat for less than $6, a whole french bread loaf for $2 and a 2l bottle of coke for less than $2.
How the fuck are there still retards giving subway money?
>>
>>22126675
>>22126676
Fucked up. A $5 dollar bill is now the new $1.

The quality was much better too. Subway has seen the biggest drop in quality of any fast food joint.

No you can't, retard. Show me a single store in the Northern Mariana Islands where you can buy that for that price. You are an easily propagandized illiterate moron.
>>
>>22125632
this is an ad for locations that are out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. shit is expensive in the middle of nowhere. same deal in my area near a major city is $7.
