>>22124960Opener checks everything at 4am before the truck gets there. We have the dates received plus hold long it's been out of the walk in. We pull anything that looks bad or will be going withinn 3 days. We clean each bin every morning so we basically are hands on everything. Funny enough, it's typically the apples or potatoes that go bad before we catch them all. Some things like raspberries are moldy when we get them so they are culled in the back.

>>22124973Fertilizer intensive produce is expected to have shortages. Corn, tomatoes, sugar cane and leafy greens like red and green leaf lettuce. We have received letters saying shortages will hit late fall. Mexico is doing OK, but the prices will be steep. Next spring will be bad.

Yeah you won't be able to subsist on it alone but to supplement what will be short. Stuff you know you like, chiles or herbs, potatoes onions radishes whatever you might not be able to buy. I'm never a worrier but this has me concerned. Even if evrything went normal now next year will be rough and it looks like they are all in on wrecking the global economy.

Can of peas has not a lot of bang but a can of corned beef will. Think high sugar drinks like powdered tang znd kool-aid sugared type drinks.

Why did every single alium get much worse all at once? They all go rotten so quickly now. They always have loads of flaws everywhere I buy them.

>>22125141Produce has the greatest shrink in any dept. We lose 75% of what comes in to compost. Costs margins are really tight. The deli is where you get fucked. Mark ups on cheese etc is crazy.
>>22125137Right, and I do, but nowadays when I get garlic for instance it's pretty common for one or two of the cloves to be completely rotten mush. Onions have had rot going several layers in to the point where I'm throwing away a good 40%-50% of the onion and then it's dried up in the middle anyway, even found a piece of glass embedded in one. Shallots get all dry and shrivelled in the middle and they don't taste like they should. Didn't use to be like that.
