Bought this ribeye today. Opened it and it’s grey and smelly on the other side.

What do?
>>
>>22124847
it's fine
>>
>>22124847
What's the date and did you store it properly?
That's just oxidation and normal.
>>
>>22124847
return it.
>>
>>22124857
>That's just oxidation
if it only LOOKS weird then yes. but OP says it smells weird.

sometimes out of the package meat may have a chemical smell from the processing. but it won't linger for very long. if it smells off don't eat it.

The colouration is off-putting but that's not the only way to tell if the beef is bad or not, as beef tends to turn grey anyway.

In saying that, anyone who has had a proper bought of food poisson would never risk it again as long as they live. And I don't mean throwing up from eating too much Halloween candy or getting diarrheum from a sketchy kebab, I mean actual fever and delirium and massive vomiting and not being able to eat hot food for a number of days kind of sickness. You just won't ever go through it again. It's happened to me twice and I almost just switched permanently to Soylent and protein shakes just to minimize the risk.

I've been thawing food on the counter and drinking untreated well water for over 20 years. I wouldn't cook and eat that piece of meat only if it especially slimy.

>>
>>22124847
Cook it and if it still smells bad throw it in the street for the neighborhood dogs.
>>
>>22124879
it's fine, gayboy
>>
>>22124847
looks slimy so i would get rid of it
>>
always do the smell test. your nose knows. if it smells bad get rid of it. dont have to look at exp date at milk either just smell it.
>>
>>22125041
>your nose knows
Then why is everyone eating ass now?
>>
>>22124847
it’s fine

Beef starts to turn grey after a couple of hours if it's not refrigerated, vacuum sealed and shrink wrapped so that's normal. But if it smells off or funky bring it back to the shop and demand a refund.

Yet another example of why you should never buy quick sale meat

Poor people cope

Fine

Toss

it's important to note that greyed beef means it is exposed to air which can also mean it hasn't been sealed well or the packaging has been compromised which in turn puts it at higher risk of turning into an ecosystem

>>
>>22125159
no, no, no.
you have it backwards.
gray means all the oxygen has left the muscle and it now is just festering meat.
>>
>>22124847
It’s fine
>>
>>22125275
Thats not what google says.
>>
>>22124847
I've had worse without getting sick but if you have enough of a life that a 5% chance is not worth risking for ten bucks then don't
>>
>>22125292
that's nice, anon.
>>
>>22124847
It's a crying shame, but cook it well done and eat it. If it was for sale today it won't hurt you.
>>
>>22124847
Funny. I also got some beef at Morissons (short rib). And it was rancid like a couple of days after I bought it. They also stopped doing ox cheek. Fucking scum.
>>
>>22124847
Thats not normal oxidation. If it smells and or is slimy return it to the store. You can get so hilariously sick from it like this anon said that it isnt worth it.>>22124890
I got food poisoning and was sick for about two months with terrible stomach cramps and vomiting also i couldnt shit at all. For the next 2-3 years after getting over it my stomach would burn randomly in the same spot it hurt when i was sick. It fucking sucks.

>>
>>22124890

this, I had bad food poisoning from beef i had laying around in the freezer. There were times I felt like I was dying with how weak and fatigued I was, almost passing out trying to walk around, getting existential anxiety thinking about the number of people throughout history who died of plague, disease etc. Taking liquid mini shits every 45 minutes for like two weeks straight. Pretty sure I got SIBO or something because my gut was destroyed for a month and i only fixed by solely eating raw eggs and kefir. I havent been able to eat beef at all since then
>>
>>22124847
Imagine the smell
>>
You can still fuck that
>>
>>22124847
Just cook it well done. Ribeyes can handle that better than leaner cuts. Take whiff and a bite..i.f tastes ok then cram it up ye olde arse.
>>
>>22124847
EAT IT YOU BITCH!
>>
>>22124847
Cook and eat it pussy
>>
>>22126436
I'm not walking back to the store with an opened piece of meat for £5. First world problems I guess, not valuing pocket change that much
>>
>>22127189
£5? That meat is £34/kg, it's going to be just over £11. That is more than enough for someone to want a refund.
Unless it was in the reduced section in which case you should have looked at it better and I'd still return it if it's close enough to bloody walk.
