I am convinced people perceive the flavor of at least some vegetables radically differently. In the sense of "how do I know what I see as blue is the same as you"? There are a few things that come up again and again in life that have convinced me. First, I hate lettuce on sandwiches. To me, the lettuce overpowers everything. You just get this acerbic lettucy flavor that masks everything. But then people look at you and say "but lettuce tastes like nothing", like you're crazy. And to me, no, it is a very strong flavor. It dominates over the meat, cheese, etc. You may as well just be eating a lettuce sandwich. I like lettuce in a salad a lot, but that's because you're looking for the taste of lettuce specifically.Cabbage is similar. There's an active thread now where several people have said "cabbage is tasteless garbage" and to me I think it actually has a very strong flavor. So much so that even though I enjoy it, I have to kind of keep the amount limited.Am I crazy here? It's like people are living in completely different worlds. There must be some kind of fundamental taste receptor divergence happening here. You always here this about cilantro but I think the effect is more widespread.

>>22126577Lettuce is a strange one.I grew up with English Globe Lettuce which does have a nice flavour and in a traditional British salad it's pretty good but along came the almost flavourless Iceberg and Kos, only because their texture is harder and adds crunch (which globe lettuce does not do). It's horses for courses.
