An American tourist was yelling at our staff today for cooking without gloves, because it is "unsanitary". When did this particular brain damage come from? Especially with the black gloves that all ecelebs online use.
>>22128003are you indian? if so that tourist had every right
>>22128003You will get skin cells on the food if you bare hand it, not that that's any worse than other things that would naturally find their way in, but if the cook has an open cut then that can leak into the food. These gloves aren't 100% foolproof but they would provide an extra barrier.>who would be retarded enough to work with meat bare handed with an open cut???You've never worked food service if that would surprise you...
>>22128016I am from Greece>>22128017>not that that's any worse than other things that would naturally find their way inI think it's a psychological phenomenon. They don't care about what actually ends up in it but the idea of your hands not touching it for some reason, even if they're cleaner than plastic.
Tell them dont panic its organic! Also tell them you literally have a license to handle food.
>>22128014Erm just so you know, you're actually the one going on at lengths to make this insane connection so I should probably take time to reconsider things if I were you
>>22128055What are you talking about? This is formal logic.
>>22128003I think it's a California thing. All dumb, trendy shit comes from there. >avocado toast>bottled water>smoking bansNo doubt the stupid black rubber gloves did, too.
>>22128003Higher contrast against most foods, but particularly vegetables. Hand washing can't be trusted to wagies, what people consider thorough isn't what surgeons have in mind. And people get hungover, lazy, and spiteful. Gloves gives the owner some litigation buffer against food poisoning.
>>22128003gay ppl at the tatoo shop?
>most Americans are used to eating at McDonald's, fast food chains, and chain restaurants>those corporations enforce glove wearing because they hire barely-sentient chimpanzees to man their stores who don't wash their hands, and this minimizes their liability for food poisoning>glove wearing is thus normalized and expected for food service staff even though actual restaurants don't do it>social media cooks use black gloves for contrast on camera, and trend chasing neo-hipster labubu matcha burger stores use them for the same reason
>>22128003Gloves actually provide a false security and they end up more dirty than your hands. BBQ gloves are usually cloth glove under the nitrile gloves to help with heat mitigation from the hot rendered fat.
>>22128022Use of gloves is correlated with better food safety outcomes. But yes, it's also psychological like a lot of things. I'd rather my surgeon wear the full surgeon getup than be some dude in a tanktop and flip flops. Maybe that's how they do in in Greece but developed countries have standards.
>>22128003Gloves are actually pretty rare in American restaurants, the only time you really see them is at Subway-type places where they handle produce right in front of customers. Australia, on the other hand, enforces gloves in food service and I've heard many stories of Aussies freaking out when they see American kitchen staff working bare-handed. Are you sure the tourists in question weren't Australian?
>>22128173>Maybe that's how they do in in Greece but developed countries have standards.kek but fair
>>22128003It's a liberal influencer thing. Black gloves == sanitary healthiness == oh my science! Just another little way of subconsciously patting themselves on the back for being so smart.
Do you prefer sweat or plastic in your food
>>22128304Sweat. Plastic can't be broken down.
Do you want to know why they wear black gloves? The actual reason? Think about when the only time most people ever see a white plastic glove in their everyday lives.
>>22128381Or blue.
bare hands, especially finger parts, hold a lot of tiny grime and stuff. even after washing. i only trust my own bare hands.
>>22128378>Plastic can't be broken downyou need to quit being such a pussy wussy, redwings.
>>22128003some time in the 2010s
>>22128022>greeceSo you’re poor and low iq. lol.
>>22128173this can be explained by the glovers being more hygenoc overall. if they make employees wear gloves they probably pay attention to time and temp and do daily sanatizing and all that jazz.
>>22128563Just enforce an employment ban for food service companies that requires all employees to be from civilized nations where people wash their hands regularly and you won't have a problem.
I just do the incel finger rinse.
>>22128003If you're having to cut up a ton of hot meat, cotton insulating gloves with a rubber shell are a life saver.
>>22128633he's holding a knife with his toes, anon.look closer next time.
>>22128165it's pretty much this. Also since the coof lots of people got nitrile gloves around.
Chef here. Industry norm is that all end product food, no further cooking, gloves are to be worn. Its wank I noticed on BBQ groups that its a standard uniform to have a beard, tattoos, black T-shirt and wear black gloves at all times. Also we only wear blue gloves/band aids so we can see if any of the item was left in the food.
>>22128775gloves do work, the problem is they don't work well over extended cooking shifts, because people forget you gotta change em AND wash your hands in between. It's mostly just security theater. If you just wash your hands decently and quickly between every task you're fine
>>221280031st thing: anyone handling hot bbq usually has cotton gloves under those black gloves. 2nd thing: The black gloves keep your hands clean - you don't need to do crazy washing hands post meat handling. Fat is real sticky. And yes, wearing gloves as food service means you "virtue signal" to others in society that you follow good hygiene. Since corpos all force it, it's become an expected food handler feature. Not doing it means you scratch your ass and shove literal shit onto food.
>>22128017>You will get skin cells on the food if you bare hand itDon't worry, the dead skin cells get killed by the heat. Gloves are much more dangerous than no gloves because when you take off the gloves you're getting dead skin cells all over the kitchen.
>>22128003The glove cult is heavily tied to smokoids. If you're slicing something from the bbq, you gotta have dem black gloves or you're absolutely not a real 370 pound cryptically latino gentleman.
Because it's fucking unsanitary you nitwit. Enjoy your hepatitis.
>>22128003A lot of lower middle class tourists are loud dimwits, russians, germans, brits are also quite infamous in places that subsist of budget flight tourism. As for gloves, a lot of places I have seen them have the cashier handle the cash with the same gloves they prep food with. Seen that happen in multiple countries so make of that what you will.
I dont want your jeet germs on my food ranjeesh
>>22128003Germaphobe faggots, if you don't want someone else touching your food cook it yourself or shut the fuck up.
>>22128022>I dont believe in germscool story, georgios
>>22128003I was in a kitchen of a restaurant the other day and the head chef wasn't even wearing gloves when plating the food. An actual professional didn't use gloves so Im gonna assume gloves are just a preference and also YouTubers use them because they look good for the camera
>>22131173Where? In the US gloves are required to handle ready to eat food in all 50 states. That doesn't mean every food service employee does it, but it is a health code violation. For prep work, raw handling and actually cooking gloves are optional but recommended. Anything ready to eat, to include plating hot food, gloves are code. The real issue comes when retards don't swap gloves. Some low iq pablito doesn't connect crosscontaminating a salad with the same gloves he just used to form hamburger patties. He's got gloves on, so it's cool. Code requires you to dispose of those gloves, wash your hands, then get new clean gloves if you change tasks. Even if both of those tasks are handling raw food. Say you're portioning beef for burger patties, but your boss tells you to stow that, and start breaking down some chickens for tonight's special. Code requires that you dispose of the gloves you're wearing, wash your hands, then put on new gloves to handle the chicken. Most staff aren't going to do that, and some managers will actively discourage it because "those gloves are fine and gloves cost money."
>>22128173this graph absolutely says nothing about cleanlinessid rather eat at a restaurant where the cooks use their hands and wash them vs one with glove-wearers touching change and food with the same gloves (which ive seen happen irl, a shitty overpriced burgerjoint i got dragged into and spent 25 bucks on a mid burger with cold fries plus shitty "homemade" vinegary ketchup)
>>22128003They don't vaccinate. It's that simple. We have a similar situation here in Belgium. The Dutch send all their kids here because we don't get ill. We don't get ill because vaccination is mandatory here. But they're unvaccinated and spread diseases. Then they demand we wear gloves at parent-teacher meetings to limit the spread of diseases. It's entitlement gone through the roof.South of us, in France, there's a sick bay just for Japanese people at Charles De Gaule airport (Paris' main airport). Japanese people get physically ill when they arrive in France, because nobody's wearing masks and gloves. They don't need to, they're vaccinated. But Japanese people freak out, thinking it's a hygiene disaster. We completely forgot about covid, they're still droning on about it.
>>22131272It was on Michigan Ave in Chicago, so it absolutely wasn't some hole in the wall. They were even doing that, "thanks chef, yes chef" thing you'd see in the bear, but for real.
>>22131272>In the US gloves are required to handle ready to eat food in all 50 statesno fucking way thats true
>>22130689Gloves are potentially more dangerous according to studies because people don't remove gloves due to perception that their hands are clean when they have gloves on.The actual truth that people know if they've worked jobs where this is common is that people don't remove gloves because your hands get fucking sweaty when you wear gloves for a long time and it really sucks putting a new set of gloves on sweaty hands.
Sometimes I wear them because I don't want smelly fingers, discolored nails, or simply be in pain from spices
>>22128563I'm sure that contributes. Regardless, outbreaks are less likely when food is handled with gloves. >>22131286It shows that the number of foodborne illness outbreaks is lower when gloves are worn vs no gloves being worn to handle food. That's directly related to hygiene. >id rather eat at a restaurant where the cooks use their hands and wash them vs one with glove-wearers touching change and food with the same gloves I'm sure that happens too. Regardless, you're more likely to get explosive 3rd world diarrhea if gloves are not used.
>>22131378It's a bit oversimplified, but it is true. All 50 states ban barehanded touching of RTE food (there are some very exclusive exceptions). The barrier can be something other than gloves, but there must be a barrier between the handler and the food. Gloves are simply the most common barrier.
>>22128003I dont care if gloves touch my uncooked food, i would rather them if theyre going to touch my food thats on the plate. the kung flu showed me that nobody actually really understands how much you should be changing gloves>gas station wagie takes the persons items in front of me>scans all of the items that had to be touched by people before to put on shelf, the drink that is in the cooler that 1k people have opened earlier without being wiped off>takes their money and puts it in the drawer after touching the screen/buttons that havent been wiped down>scratches face>gives other money back>starts to take my items without changing glovesDidnt really care either way because it was a scam but still. If youre yelling at me for not wearing a mask you need to be autistic about constantly changing gloves>t. work in a cleanroom Id much rather gloves that have only been in your ass once since youve put them on than your fingers that were knuckle deep last night and havent been washed since.
>>22131532Somehow I feel the most common barrier is a cooking utensil and not gloves.
>>22128003I use glove to keep grease, sauce, rub or whatever off my hands, otherwise I'm constantly cleaning my hands to avoid getting the stuff everywhere.
>>22128003It sounds like it was a california vaxxmaxxer you can safely just ignore them
>>22128003Stupid people believe in magic. They cannot understand things. If you wear a glove the food is clean. Tetanus is magically caused by rust. The mask is my talisman to ward away disease. Thought doesn't enter into the equation at all, because they can't do it.
>>22128173you just rekt that chud with EVIDENCE and FACTS
>>22128022>I am from GreeceEven worse.
>>22128065Bitch, I’ve been eating avocado on toast for over 30 years.
