What gives bread a chemical smell? This brand had a change in the recipe is all I can imagine and it's affected the flavour now and when it goes mouldy you REALLY notice a scent change before you even see the mould. It used to just be like normal bread and was the least bad sliced bread variety where I am.The only person I can ask about this in the same house is a woman who eats mouldy bread because she believes Jamie Oliver said you can.
>>22133879It just has "flavouring" in the ingredient list so it could be that. It might be something to try and give it a sourdough type of taste/smell. Or it could be too much yeast which is common in commercial breads.
>>22133879For a mass produced loaf, Warburtons are a pretty good safe bet. I haven't noticed a difference myself but what I have noticed is that bread seems to be going off quicker and food in my cupboards are warm, I think it's due to the hot weather we have having in Britain lately.
>>22133879I've only noticed this with white bread. I started eating 100% whole wheat bread a while ago, and since then the smell of white bread makes me feel ill.
The yeast in the bread is still active and producing ethanol, that is the smell.
>>22133890>I have noticed is that bread seems to be going off quickerI'm buying bread and if I don't put it in the fridge it has mould covering the rear end the next day.I'm not even sure if it doesn't have it when I buy it.
