The japs finally replied to my inquiry and told me they’re out of 1 gō Donabe so they asked me if I want to import one from their furnace in Japan at the same cost + 10€ shipping, import tax and fees included.
I replied asking how long would it take to restock the Donabe on their Italian shop and I’m still waiting for their reply so I can decide what to do.
I fear that the pot could be damaged if sent from Japan, 10€ shipping means low cost shipping so maybe it’s better waiting for the restock.

I feel like this is all a big test to see if I’m worthy of getting one of the sacred rice pots.

I got a bunch of glassware shipped from China not long ago and excepting a minor manufacturing flaw (a bubble in a pint glass) all 24 arrived unscathed. Modern shipping is pretty good with fragile stuff now.
We bought glass because we think our son is responsible enough and has the motor skills and coordination to not smash them inadvertantly now. I say? Order them from Nippon. Unless 10€ is too much extra, of course

The price is the same as ordering from Italy (138€) with extra 10€ for shipping, but they’re sending me the pot from the maker.
I’ll just wait for their reply and decide based upon what they say.
I can’t wait to try Donabe rice :(

Ah, fair enough. Have you considered Chinese-made ones at local Chinese supermarkets or are you set on Japanese ones only? No judgement either way, just that I'm a skinflint cheapskate and balked at that 138€ pricetag on your behalf.

I checked a couple Chinese owned Asian markets but they only offered rice cookers, basic models or a restaurant grade Cuckoo. No Donabe or pots so far.
I’m fixed on this specific Donabe though desu, I really like it and I like the company so I look at is not only as an earthenware but also as an unique piece, it would be ultra rare here in my country, so it’s a nice plus.

Fair enough. I pretty much live in Asia (I live in the US but the area is majority Asian) and there are five Asian supermarkets within walking distance of my house, all of which but one have exceptionally well-stocked crockery so I'd hoped your area might be the same. My hometown in Italy has an unofficial Chinatown with several crockery shops and with your mentions of imports from Italy, I would have hoped you might have had similar options but I guess not.

If you’re talking about Milano and the Paolo Sarpi area, I haven’t checked in person but it’s on my to do list also for ingredients since I live in Milano.
Now the city is empty because it’s august so it should be ideal to go there and check, hopefully when this heatwave in Europe goes away because leaving the house with 37ºC every fucking day is insane.

Thanks for the tips anon

Poggioreale, Napoli, specifically along Gianturco. But yeah, August holidays and barbecues = empty cities, packed beaches = check that shit. Chinese don't go to the beach so their businesses remain open

I didn’t know that area had a big Chinatown, I expected Prato (they have a ton of textile factories in the area) which is in Tuscany, also a lot of restaurants too.

I have this website with a map of respectable Asian markets (Chinese/Japanese) in the country, of course they’re not all of them but it’s a nice resource to find physical shops.

It's not huge, but it's there. And yeah, the one hit on Gianturco Is https://www.cinamercato2003.it/ but there are smaller stores in the area, as well
It's weird. In Italy, Chinese learn almost perfect Italian to the point that if you close your eyes, you just think it's an Italian speaking. In America? I meet Chinese people that have been her for decades and can't speak any English at all.
