Fall and Winter are right around the corner. What should I be stocking up on before then in light of the coming shortages and continued price cimbs?>inb4 it's already too lateMaybe, but I'm betting on not an apocalypse, rather a continued boiling of the frog for now. I'd rather be able to wipe my ass in January, so toilet paper is on my list. But what else?
How do I most efficiently get cooked beans into my freezer from dry?Pressure cooker? Crock pot?And are those Souper Cubes a scam? They look good for portioning cooked beans for bag storage. Or is there a better way?
It's not quite even harvest season. I have enough frozen meat and seafood. I just want to freeze some vegetables and some fruits so I can make puree through the long winter when I won't have access to fresh garden vegetables and fruit. As for meats which should be your #1 thing you consume, buy pork, beef, turkey and seafood when it aligns with sales around holidays. Labor day is coming up so you'll probably be able to get cheap hot dogs and pork ribs.
>>22134301The local rich people grocery store has squash on sale every autumn at prices far below the discount stores. Think they mainly want it in the store to set the atmosphere but want some turnover, which makes it great for people like me who stock up the basement with winter squash. In addition to the normal winter squash, they also have Autumn Frost Squash, which is pretty nice on its own. >Autumn Frost squash is a delightful hybrid winter squash variety that combines the best qualities of butternut squash and acorn squash. Known for its sweet, nutty flavor and smooth texture, this frost-tolerant vegetable is becoming increasingly popular among home gardeners and chefs alike. With its unique appearance and excellent storage qualities, Autumn Frost squash is a must-try.
>>22134311I'm a vegetarian so I don't have to worry about meat.I'm looking at beans.I'm looking into a tofu press so that I can buy blocks of tofu, press them, freeze and stack them. I've started growing microgreens in my kitchen also for extra nutrients. I've been made aware that rice might go up, olive oil is going to be apeshit, and can prices are going up d/t tariffs so canned goods are already high and will go higher.
>>22134370>I'm a vegetarian R.I.P. I truly feel sad for you. Well, beans are always good to have but I'd consider not just food but a generator and a 1000 gallon propane tank. We've been having this silly prep thread every now and then since the pandemic and before. Nothing is going to grow so high it will become unobtainable. Improperly stocking up on rice and staples in haste will just lead to spoilage and bother. Get bags of freeze dried food. I urge you to change your views on nutritious meats and seafood.
>>22134389I will not change my views for spiritual reasons. Top of my head blew off, connected with God and can't go back. This is right for me, but it's not right for everyone. I appreciate your concern, though.I live in an apartment that precludes hardcore prep like a generator or alternative fuel source. I'm really "prepping" to try and ride out food cost increases coming up. Like most people, grocery/toiletry costs are raping my budget and I know it's going up even more quite soon as tariff shit and Iran trade shit/oil shit insulation starts to fall away and we get hit with the full effect.I know better than to stock shit I don't actually use. I just wondered if anyone was in the know about specific stuff that's going to Hell. Like olive oil thanks to what's up in the Med right now.The most impactful crops forecast in the US comes out in 10 days. I expect prices to go up them, pending corn & soybean futures. Corn product and soy product are in like 75% of the premade foods in the US, plus eggshit is happening again now. Add diesel costs rising affecting all food transport and...I just wanna be a few months ahead of the shitstorm.
inb4 can, CAN, **CAN** EVERYTHING

Canning is great, easy and safe. Just follow official guidance for temps and what is safe to can. Helps us take our fresh garden produce through the year to next harvest. We are stocking up on meat, butcherbox had a decent sale so we’re trying them out. Hard to get good quality meat locally. Butcher our own beef but still need poultry, seafood etc. freeze drier is amazing for fresh herbs and powders (onion, garlic) and long term storage food but very much excessive, and you need to feel comfortable servicing the pump yourself occasionally
>>22134562I'd love some day to have the real estate to be so self sufficient. I admire what you do.
