You guys were right, Terere with fresh herbs (peppermint and lemon balm/melissa) is really nice in the heat. Shouts to my cucarachas amigos.

>>22138392I've been slugging so much of it back, I'm too retarded to cold brew tea overnight and hot+ice takes shit loads of ice, cold yerba does it just right
>>22138405There's a bunch of trustworthy shops listed in the rentry that's linked in the OP.Usually people buy chinese teas from western facing chinese/taiwanese shops because they're cheaper than domestic vendors. However, some domestic vendors offer nicely curated starter/sampler packs and fast shipping.Stuff like Yerba is probably fine to order off an amazon warehouse or some domestic specialist.I don't know much about japanese teas.

On my monthly quest of giving new teas a go I haven't tried before, I went with Hojicha this time.I know it's technically low quality sencha, but it was rather pleasant. Then again, I have yet to taste a low quality sencha that was genuinely awful.Pretty alright overall.

The amount that I want to drink pu-erh is out of proportion with how good I actually think it tastes

>>22139558>So much talk about gear and proper temps and focusing on ritual as if that's gonna make a material difference when your leaves are trashI've been to many "niche" communities and its the same people again and again. These people are bad at life. They are afraid of getting better because it would involve them getting humbled/embarrassed. Can't have that in today's world. They need safe space. Let's have an example. Guy buys some tea. Vendor tells them what to taste. They try their best to taste it as well. Having different opinion would mean they failed at tasting so ofc they won't fail. They say how awesome it is. Someone says to them, they don't feel that way and think it's not a good tea. This is immediately taken as an offense towards them. That their opinion is wrong and they failed. Can't have that. >Well achctually at these specific conditions it feels this way, try +X of Y and you will feel the same(they have moral high ground now)If you disagree again, you will get downvoted/muted/reported for being troll/toxic. Doesn't matter if you are right or wrong. Its all one big echochamber advertisement friendly space. I could go on and on, but I hope you get what I'm trying to say. Is reddit better/worse? Idk, but I'm not collecting any points here, I do it for love of the game.
>gearWhat gear? What the fuck are you using aside from an unglazed teapot that leeches some minerals? There's tea gear?>temperatureThe duration of steeping and the temperature you do it at absolutely is going to affect your extraction, that's just common senseYou're not going to turn trash into gold by brewing it at 97.2c for exactly 27 seconds but if you steep a Japanese green at 75c vs 100c and taste no difference you might be defective

>>22141185It's pretty annoying but just ignore and it'll go away soon enough. Last thread's op seems to have really upset someone. But, tea. A few months ago I signed up for the essence of tea monthly tea club because I haven't been sampling any new teas lately. The past two teas have been young shengs and if this one is too I'm gonna cancel my subscription. They're fine I guess but I rarely want to drink young sheng and I really don't want to spend >50¢/g on any more of them (subscription is $35/month and they're little 60g cakes).
any mugicha enjoyers here? whats your preferred method for making it? i've just been letting it steep in cold water for a couple hours till it looks about dark enough and keeping it in the fridge but i'm wondering if theres a better method?
>>22141207That's steep. I haven't really tasted anything in that price range that would be worth it(to me anyway).Especially recently you can get a lot of young good sheng for cheap, but maybe I'm just not picky enough.
>>22141207Have you tried W2T's club? I was subscribed for a year and was very impressed. Sometimes a whole cake of a classic (admittedly raw puerh) tea, but sometimes it was fermentation experiments, sometimes it was just the earliest green tea they could get their hands on in Spring. A little pricey, but there is value in tea being delivered to you without you having to think about it. It was always sent with a full page letter describing something about the tea or how the tea was processed, discovered, etc. A stark contrast to what Paul usually writes. Picrel.
>>22141221Yeah I don't think what I've gotten so far has been much better than raws I've had from farmer leaf or vietsun that were half the price. More important than the value to me is just that neither of them were particularly interesting. Just run of the mill young sheng imo, I threw away the explanation letters that came with them but iirc they're from regions that the EoT people don't drink from much/had written off in the past.>>22141230I haven't. That one does seem pretty cool though.>there is value in tea being delivered to you without you having to think about itThat's what I was after. I went with the EoT club because I really like their aged sheng offerings, that's my favorite kind of tea and (along with teaswelike) they're my favorite vendors of it.But anyways even if the next tea is yet another young sheng I'll email them and ask if so much of one type of tea is typical or whatever before I cancel it. But if I do cancel I'll consider the w2t club, or maybe I'll just set myself a monthly reminder to buy a few samples from wherever.
Some Da Fang from Sweetest Dew. For some reason, it tastes much better brewed in a pot than grandpa style. Savory, peanuty, bean flavors.
>>22141185It would be really really nice. In the past two days I've tried to talk about>how 21 snoozefest is doing>20 year old awazon menghai spring>and a rarely posted about factory, LangHeand got mostly animeslop posting in return. It certainly never been as bad as this. I think I'll sip on some 2019 Xiaguan Sweet and think about where we went so wrong. Probably way overpaid for this cake years ago too. Fuck YS.>>22141230Oh that reminds me I've got some old w2tclub sheng samples I need to get around to.
Okay, the deed is done. I received about 200€ worth of second hand tea from a nice guy who chatted me up on my local craigslist equivalent. By the end, I was maybe 90% sure that he wouldn't drive over to rape me with a rusty screwdriver or take my money and ghost me, so that was exciting.Guy has a pretty big collection and was looking to get rid of the cheaper cakes and stuff which he doesn't really like, like budget Xiaguan cakes, Oriental Beauty and Liu Bao, which was awesome for me since I'm looking to expand my /tea/ knowledge that is currently really limited to budget Shou and some few examples of Sheng and Oolong. Also cheap ebay greens, but I don't think that counts as knowledge.Anyways, I'm currently on the second steeping of a Xiaguan 2011 "Golden Rhythm" and it's kicking my ass. Smoky on the front and gives way to a nice sweet and dry aftertaste. I'm all huiganing up over here.
>>22141281Following it up with another green tea, an obscure Guanxi green tea from theTea.plIt's pretty good, more generic flavors of good chinese green tea and with some pineapple undertones
>>22141284>Xiaguan 2011 "Golden Rhythm"I have this one, bought it from QuicheTeasVery good budget cake. It supposedly uses aged maocha from 2005 so it tastes older than 2011. Has a smoky bbq flavor with some tart fruitiness, overall makes me think of some kind of stir fry or grilled meat on a stick with a few tart peaches included. I think it's smoother and easier on the stomach than some of the similarly priced Xiaguan tuos I've had, might be more humid storage
>>22141258>More important than the value to me is just that neither of them were particularly interesting.I know what you mean. I miss being new and always tasting something new. These days I try to buy samples from taobao, but not many factories make samples and if they do, its in that minidisc format that I hate. Some vendors sell 7g samples of regular cakes, but 7g is one session and I would like to have at least two(it's also more expensive than I would like).I will probably get bunch of FL samples like every year, this time in the 100+ range, but I'm usually not that impressed.
>>22141207I'm kinda surprised eot are sending out young sheng at all. Maybe just an aberration
>>221395584chan in general has weird autistic elitism on almost every topic that gets discussed.
>>22141284Sounds like a good time, there's bound to be some nice stuff in there

>>22141402They do produce their own young sheng each year, or they at least press and brand it, idk how involved they are in production.I've tried a few and thought they were pretty good, if a bit expensive maybe, but again I'm not a big young sheng guy
>>22141416It's a pretty cool haul (I'm telling myself because I spent more money than I should have) and the guy basically priced it at or below quiche/KTM prices, so I'm pretty happy.Got like 200g of 4 different Farmerleaf oolongs, 40g of 70s, 80s and 90s LiuBao, half a XG 2012 8582, a barely opened XG 2010 Purple Cloud, half of the XG 2011 Golden Rhythm, a mystery 90s tuo, full cake of XG 2006 Ye Sheng and XG 2005 8653.And a bunch of samples. It's tempting to try them all asap, but I think I'll try to stick to maybe a couple teas until I get to know them a bit.Oh, and the guy is looking to do a taobao group buy in September, but I'm not sure if I'll have the funds to participate in that. It would be pretty cool to have a mountain of cheap tea though. A tong or a heicha basket/bamboo tube does seem like something I would enjoy having.
>>22141455There's no harm in trying them all like a mad lad it's fun, though it takes a few tries of one tea to really get a feel for it imoAt least by sept you will have a good idea if you wanna get some xg or liubao from taobaoSounds like a pretty solid collection to me>>22141431Ah I see, wasn't aware they even produced it, makes sense then.
