Day 1 of switching to keto. I am well below calories for the day and definitely below in net carbs. Feels like I'm gonna make it bros.

The plan is to cut out all alcohol from my diet indefinitely, to be replaced with fizz water or the occasional "treat" sugar-free energy drink. I will try my best to only eat at supper time and snack a bit afterwards before bed if I feel like it. I have cheese, kielbasa, olives, pickles, sugar-free yogurt, avocados, and raw almonds for snacking (plus a few vine tomatoes.) Meals will be eggs, meat and butter with spinach or the occasional helping of asparagus. This is just a start.

I want to lose weight, primarily, but also just want to get healthier in general and I think my piss poor diet + alcohol consumption was making me depressed, lazy, and unmotivated. Thoughts? Any other /ck/eto anons out there?

Just finished last snack of the day, some olives. I will try to come on once a day to keep track of how I've been holding up, hopefully to motivate others.

Ignore the ignorant naysayers. I lost over 100 lbs eating just like that and I've kept it off for 5 years.

Keeping a journal to stay accountable is a good idea; at least for the first few months until it's just your routine.
I'll have carbs now and then, but if it's not a regular thing it doesn't affect your weight. Sometimes I don't feel good after eating them though. Your body gets used to working cleaner and not having to deal with breaking that down.
I hope you can stay sober. That may be the greater challenge.
>>
>>22140520
Honestly as I said in one of the alch threads, the drinking part was just in my head. Obviously this is day 1, so we will see if I can stick to it, but I feel a lot of it was mental - I kept just doing nothing waiting for the next day where I had money or the time to drink in excess. If I just tell myself, that's it, no more booze, it kind of feels like a release. Like I am breaking up with an abusive partner. Gay, I know.

As to the rest, thanks bro. I am going to use the Lose It app as it's never steered me wrong before. Basic plan lets you count calories and carbs and that's all I need. Do you stay below 20g net carbs or do you aim for total zero?

Sugar is another one I want to cut out hence why keto works so well for me - I think that shit has enslaved the entire Western world.
>>
>>22140520
>Your body gets used to working cleaner
Carbs aren't "dirty". And when you just say you have "carbs" it's not really enough information. Soda and a peach both have carbs, but the former is still more likely to make you not feel good.
>>
>>22140509
The best carbonated drinks to transfer over to in my opinion (and only for digestion and not taste) are any of the sparkling waters (Pelegrino, perrier, topico.) If you do zero cal sodas, or the zero calorie bubbly, lacroix, polar or other "soda replacements" they still have artificial sweeteners that will give you the "craving" for carbs and sugars (and they're more expensive). Just avoid those until you got the willpower locked in, then you can do zero calorie anything and you'll be fine.
>>
>>22140550
Yes I have local store brand "Perrier" water for most occasions but I bought a few sugar-free Monsters to replace my weekend beers and liquor. So that in my head I can still do that "unwinding" on the weekends without actually drinking alcohol. But we will see, if drinking them ends up making me fall off the wagon, I'll just stick to the Perrier stuff.
>>
>>22140552
I quit caffeine all together, and weaned myself off by drinking celsius (small cans) and sparkling ice zero sugar. There's probably some healthier alternatives but the sparkling ice caffeine are less than a dollar a can where I am at so I just bought them in bulk and slowly stopped them as the keto energy boost kicked in.
I drank 1 Celsius heat when my ketosis was in full swing and stayed up for like 36 hours straight so be careful lol.

This sounds like the Taxi Driver scene

>June twenty-ninth. I gotta get in shape. Too much sitting has ruined my body. Too much abuse has gone on for too long. From now on there will be 50 pushups each morning, 50 pullups. There will be no more pills, no more bad food, no more destroyers of my body. From now on will be total organization. Every muscle must be tight
>>
>>22140509
Try meal prepping for convenience and pick meals that can be stored/heated up easily for the longer/bigger meals. It'll make it easier to stick to the diet because of convenience, and develops a good habit of meal prep. Once your energy kicks in start moving around more and drinking a lot more water it'll help with fat loss. 1 drop of alcohol will put a stop to the weight loss, remember that, and find something you enjoy to do with your energy. Good luck man.

Thanks anon. I already got some meat and cheese cut up and portioned but definitely need to prepare some recipes or else I feel just eating finger foods and salted meat with butter will get old fast.

Drinking coffee throughout the day until supper definitely has been helping (I know I said this is day 1 but I sort of started yesterday already, but I had a bowl of cereal so I don't really count it.)

People miss the forest for the trees with these diets. Keto, paleo, carnivore, vegan, any positive benefits they're going to feel are because they're eating minimally processed food. You know how you can achieve that? Eat minimally processed food that is practical for your lifestyle and budget.

>>22140606

OP here. I was going to make a long reply but it's been 1 day or so since I started so I'm not gonna blabber on as if I am an expert. Just will say, everyone is different and at the end of the day you just have to find what works for you I think. The differences between different diets / restrictions are generally arbitrary if the end result for most is just losing weight. If you lose weight, it was successful. If not, it was not. FOR YOU. There is no one size fits all. But I will say, there is also the fact that keto has the added benefit / incentive of entering ketosis, which just cutting back on calories / eating healthy alone does not have. Whether the sensation is the same as just changing your eating habits would have to be experienced by the person themselves and compared. I don't remember any sort of euphoria or anything when I lost weight the first time years and years ago. It remains to be seen if it will happen here with keto. Either way I will be losing weight and not drinking as much.

Guess I rambled a bit after all. I have changed my habits / lost weight in the past so I'm not totally talking out of my ass.

The minimal processed food part is 100% true and unarguable. Last time that was a big one for me.

I wouldn't use an app or count calories at all. Just count carbs. I just stay below 30g a day and it's worked for me. I never have any sugar. Just stuff like thin sliced multigrain bread and corn tortillas, used sparingly.

The main thing is just getting plenty of fat. Have all the fat you want. That's what keeps you filled up for so long. The best part about low-carb is you stop snacking entirely. And if you're counting calories you may be discouraged from getting the fat that will help out best.
But do what works for you.

Never did keto but I lost like 30 lbs while keeping alcohol in the mix. I made a spreadsheet to track my daily and weekly calories on top of my monthly stats and just accommodated for my beer or liquor every day using the TDEE calculator, most of my meals were eggs and meat and vegetables because it keeps the calculations easy when all you have to do is calculate a pound of steak or chicken, two eggs, two beers, shot of whiskey, etc. I was also hitting the home gym regularly two or three times a week and actually got me to sobriety for my first time before relapsing about 5 years later and getting fat again because I gave up the routine due to life changes. I should get back into the habit but unfortunately it's just a lot easier when you live alone and have the time, resources and space to be alone

Keto is great but it makes a lot of people upset, especially vegans.

One of the best keto foods is chaffles. They are perfect hamburger bun replacements. Also make great breakfast sandwiches. The dash mini is the best waffle iron to make them. I prefer the basic cheese and egg recipe. If you put some shredded cheese on the waffle iron before adding the egg and cheese mixture you get a nice crispy crust.

I think I have been a lot better with big changes quickly, in the past, than the little changes. If I don't see progress in a certain time frame my motivation drops fast. In any event keto isn't that big a change except I currently feel "hungry" a lot which isn't that hard to deal with; I work from home and rarely leave the house, I don't require a lot of exercise. It's not like I am getting mad at people because I am hangry or running out of steam at work since it's a desk job and I have coffee anyway.
>>22140699
I have heard others who are also new to keto state that they go too high in calories because they only watch carbs. Butter for example is completely zero carb so you could just eat 4000 calories worth and not hit any carbs. Extreme example but yeah. Maybe for you you have a great metabolism / are super active and you don't have to watch calories, but people like me if we don't we will go over and don't exercise enough to make up for it. I am making sure to use butter when I cook meat, and a decent amount too. I don't skimp.
>>22140748
I live with my wife and 3 kids so it's not so easy to do that. Hence why I am just changing the diet part since that doesn't require much shifting of life responsibilities, just means I or she make meals for myself and meals for everyone else, but I can just have a bowl of yogurt and almonds for a meal and that's not hard to make. I don't see a point in continuing to drink. It's not healthy to just drink alone unless you're sipping fine spirits which I don't have the time or money for. Plus I explained in an earlier post that it makes me eat more / makes me fall off the diet wagon if I drink.
>>22140850
Thanks for the idea! Looks good.

There's a reason why literally no human population in the entirety of recorded history has ever chosen to stop eating carbs. Many have had the ability and every single one chose to keep eating carbs.

You really think that no human in the history of our existence was able to figure out that carbs were evil poison until some diet influencer grifters realized they could make money tricking gullible people like you? Come on.

>I want to lose weight
Then eat less and exercise more, retard. Your dumb ass is going to feel much better on your new diet because you stopped drinking and eating processed foods but because you're stupid you're going to attribute it to "keto".

>There's a reason why literally no human population in the entirety of recorded history has ever chosen to stop eating carbs. Many have had the ability and every single one chose to keep eating carbs.
It's pretty silly to compare people who for thousands of years and hundreds of generations spent their entire lives outside being active, to today's world where most of us are sedentary and even working out is just artificial "activity" compared to actually doing shit with your body. To say nothing of how processed foods today are NOT comparable to actual fresh food of yesteryear (and yes I know that shit like preserved fish / meat existed, but the additive there was just a lot of salt.)
>You really think that no human in the history of our existence was able to figure out that carbs were evil poison until some diet influencer grifters realized they could make money tricking gullible people like you? Come on.
I never claimed carbs were "poison" and I don't think anyone here made that claim. It's just a lifestyle choice.
>Then eat less and exercise more, retard. Your dumb ass is going to feel much better on your new diet because you stopped drinking and eating processed foods but because you're stupid you're going to attribute it to "keto".
So basically you just have some kind of vendetta against keto in particular, which I don't understand. If the diet helps me what is there to get mad about? If me being successful with keto helps others be successful with it and reach their goals where is the negative outcome? People will try it and fail, as they will try and fail any other diet or lifestyle change. The individual person is what matters. I chose keto. If I had chosen to just cut calories some other jackass like you would have chimed in to say "you should just intermittent fast" or "OMAD is the way to go" or "keto is what you should do."

All of this ignores that I have addressed your concerns in numerous earlier posts that your lazy ass just didn't read.
>>
>>22141133
Vegans hate keto because it proves meat eggs and dairy are health foods.
>>
>>22141133
>It's pretty silly to compare people who for thousands of years and hundreds of generations spent their entire lives outside being active, to today's world where most of us are sedentary
But just cutting out carbs doesn't remove all the issues with being sedentary.

>I never claimed carbs were "poison" and I don't think anyone here made that claim
There's one poster constantly going around saying carbs are poison and make you fat lately.

>If me being successful with keto helps others be successful with it and reach their goals where is the negative outcome?
I'm glad keto still helps people and there are multiple people close to me who lost weight with it and got healthier. But they also started eating healthier carbs once they lost enough weight because they weren't that happy with the overall diet when weight loss was no longer a priority. Issues like fatigue and dehydration are common with keto because carbs help with both.

I don't think people have as many issues with keto dieters who might mostly keep it to themselves or discuss it when relevant. But for the ones who get hysterical whenever they see carbs and act like religious fundamentalists about it and tell people fruit is poison, it gets annoying.

>>22141135
Yet keto dieters will say milk is bad because it has carbs lol

>>22140509
My biggest problem is fiber intake, and hitting enough calories in general. A really good snack for me was just an avocado with salt or ponzu sauce.

>>
>>22141152
You don't actually need any fiber but if you really want to eat some there's plenty of low-carb options. I like sauerkraut and pickles but I don't eat them for the fiber I just like the taste and texture.

Alright so you're pretty reasonable overall. I'm not one of those preachy guys, certainly not if I just started the damn diet. You get those annoying preachy types for anything, really. Depends on the person. It could be about keto, cutting calories, OMAD, working out, having sex with trannies... it's not exclusive to a diet or a way of life. Just gotta take the anons as they come.
>>22141148
Thanks anon!
>>22141152
I've got a ton of avocados, pickles, spinach, almonds, fiber is no problem for me. I can see how keto would be an issue IF you were a picky eater and didn't like a lot of keto foods, but that's not me. I can't think of a keto food that I wouldn't eat, although I am picky insofar as carb count is concerned as I want to get stuff with really low net carbs so if I binge it I'm still good (but so far have not had any desire to overeat.)

>or the occasional "treat" sugar-free energy drink.
DO NOT FUCKING DO THIS! It will fuck your gut biome up even more.
Keto shouldn't be a lifestyle, but only a mode for certain purposes like weight loss, reversing insulin resistance and Fatty liver, etc.
i'm not currently Keto, but I went full keto for 5 months to reverse my own insulin resistance and got my BGLs down to normal again for a month.
Here are some Pro-Tips:
•Eggs are your friend. eat as many as you want, fried in butter.
•Food fatigue is REAL, stock up on pork rinds as snacks for crunch, and re-up your spices so you aren't dealing with a flavor WALL.
• make your own ranch by mixing full fat Greek yogurt with a Tblsp. of ranch packet mix or the dollar tree carries Colonna brand ranch seasoning- Thin it to your preferred consistancy with Half & Half
•Baked chiggum legs and thighs is cheap and easy; bake your vegetables alongside,(onions, zuccs, parsnips, carrot. No taters though)
•Aldi swiss, havarti and goulda slices are $1.45 for 11, those go great with eggs fried in butter on a bed of pan fried, bagged coleslaw mix
•make your OWN mayonnaise
The seed oils and Canadian motor oil replacement are doing NOBODY any good.
buy a $30 stick blender and make your own 2 cup batches from scratch.
With ALL ingredients at room temp:
• 2 eggs
• 2 cups olive or avocado oil
• 1 tsp salt
• 2tsp dijon mustard
• 1Tbls. vinigger(any kind) or lemon juice
Start the stick blender on high at the bottom of the mason jar or tall tupperware container and "pull" the emulsion up with it slowly. Then pogo that thing around to catch any straggler oil. this should take less than 2 minutes.
label the make date with some tape and use within 2 weeks.

Just remember: NO SUGARS more than 4 grams/day and NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS.

Maybe get a $10 Blood glucose monitor and keep track of your BGLs. that run-down feeling all the time is likely because your insulin levels are fucked.

You can do this anon.
>>
>>22141327
Monk fruit extract is a natural zero calorie sweetener that won't nuke the biome. It takes a bit of getting used to though.
>>
>>22140850
THIS
I did get sick of them after awhile, but as long as you aren't eating them every day, you won't fatigue on this one.
BTW, I've had some decent luck with finding cheap waffle makers at Goodwill, but you want to make sure that the iron is easy to clean afterwards. Last thing you want is a chaffles maker that you can't get all the egg out of.
>>
>>22141331
That's true, but I can't into it.
Has that weird "DRY" aftertaste to me, but then I'm one of those weird "Supertasters" who LIKES bitter shit.
I was more warning about Sucralose, and some of the other frankenfood additives.
Ironically, Saccharine isn't that bad for you at all.
Still, resetting your Leptin and Ghrelin "Thermostat" necessitates not tricking your body into thinking it's getting sugar at all.
Once your satiety levels are recalibrated, and your gut biome is unfucked, you can go back to enjoying natural sugars in moderation.

When I was doing keto I mainly used it to make vinaigrettes a bit sweeter and to make ketchup, so there was enough going on there to cover up that strangeness in the flavor. To use as a replacement for sugar in something meant to be sweet, to me it tastes like aspartame. That dry aftertaste you describe is correct. It is sweet and yet somehow astringent. But these days when I make ketchup/cocktail sauce I actually prefer using liquid monkfruit instead of a shitload of sugar. Guess it grew on me.
>>
>>22141327
Thanks anon! I am primarily concerned with weight loss at this time (which I think is tied to other issues like depression, laziness etc. along with alcohol consumption) but if after the weight loss issues persist, I'll likely see my family doctor. I live in Leafistan so my doctor is 2 hours away and I barely see him. Last time I saw him years ago he basically told me to stay away until I was late 30s when I need a prostate exam. Gotta love "free" healthcare! I will try one of my energy drinks tonight as it's my replacement for weekend beer drinking, and if it starts to make me feel fucky I'll just stick to the carbonated water. It's just I didn't want to leave a "gap" in my lifestyle when it comes to booze... I feel like if nothing replaced it, it would be much harder to quit it. We will see.
I have been doing pretty good the last 2 days with primarily drinking coffee or water and eating 1 main meal + little snacks. If this changes I will look into diversifying with spices, etc. so I didn't get tempted by the carbohydrated Jew.

For ketchup, I just use the serious eats recipe

https://www.seriouseats.com/homemade-ketchup-from-scratch-recipe

and I replace its 1/2 cup sugar with a little under a tsp of liquid monk fruit going by this conversion table

https://www.nowfoods.com/healthy-living/articles/monk-fruit-sweetener-equivalency

I can't find fresh horseradish root near me, but I can get Boar's Head brand horseradish grated in vinegar at Kroger. Unfortunately that's the only horseradish product I know that doesn't have all kinds of junk in it. But it is excellent to add to sauces and dressings.
>>
>>22141386
>>22141401
I should add that I don't bother with the end step of straining for the ketchup, and sometimes I'll add some roast roma tomatoes if I feel like it. It turns out just fine without straining imo. I just blend it and it's good to go.

I'd be less likely to use the MOM method as I would the pure powder.
For the Club soda, Add a bit of baking soda, a bit of salt, sodium citrate, sodium sulfate, Potassium chloride and a touch of monosodium phosphate.
Five CornyKegs of homemade Club soda and you've pretty much amortized your costs on powders.

these are easy to make, tasty, low carb, and high fiber. I like to add tomato powder, garlic and onion powder, cum, and dried basil to the dry mix to give it a faux-focaccia kind of flavor. Whole psyllium husks you will probably have to get from Amazon, but they are great for GF/low carb baking.

Regardless of that dumb shit you said, vegetables clearly do not constipate me. Deal with it, retard.
To address the dumb shit you said, constipation feels awful. It’s not just missing one poop. So no, i definitely do not think i need to be constantly shitting.

Ok I'll make this really simple for you again; have you ever even tried to not eat fiber? For longer than a week. Answer the question.
>>
>>22141641
Yes
Multiple times in my life I’ve gone a week without eating vegetables.
That’s how i got constipated for weeks.
Please notice the plural.
>>
You don't have to debate anyone over your personal choices and best practices for your life
>>
>>22141645
You didn't eat any fiber, or just no green vegetables specifically? And not doing that for a week caused you to be constipated specifically for several weeks afterwards? How does that even work? What does the 'constipation' entail, can you describe it? What did you actually eat? And yeah you don't have to reply to this but you're basically providing no information
>>
>>22141647
>>
>>22141651
During the time i was gluten intolerant, I’d go a week or so eating primarily eggs or gf Mac n cheese.
And then when I was on the AIP diet, i spent several weeks eating only pork or beef meatballs. No alliums, not even spices, it was genuinely the most miserable diet I’ve ever been on. I was too sick to make anything else, so I’d make a big batch on Sunday and that’s all i ate for the week.
I tried adding psyllium powder to a batch because i was so constipated, but it ruined them and i cried at my lost hours of work.
Constipation feels just like it sounds.
Your bowels are full of compacted shit. It’s uncomfortable to move around. You try to go and nothing comes out except a handful of bean sized turds. And even though that feels better, the feeling only lasts an hour or so and you’re back to uncomfortable, wishing you could shit it all out.

How old are you? How did you score in reading comprehension?

>pork or beef meatballs
O.....k? You couldn't eat anything else?

I don't know what you (or someone else) put in those meatballs, or what your living conditions were like otherwise. But I would try to remove unecessary stress from my life, not do a weird version of ultra-elimination diet but just eat any meat cuts or animal foods I like and stick to that. I would stay away from psyllium husks or anything like that. Give it like a month, ideally 2 months for complete adjustment. But I don't know what else was affecting your gut, you can get problems with reduced peristalsis if have unresolved conflicts and stress from that. If you are eating no fiber its not physically possible to walk around with lots of shit in you, its going to be concentrated bile acid or trapped gas or something else. Did you get cramps, flatulence, diarrhea or something like that after the period of constipation?

Honestly nothing fancy with my meals so far, if you can call them that. I am doing just fine snacking and drinking lots of sparkling water / coffee. So far it's been a quasi-intermittent fast / keto mix. Tonight I'm likely just going to have a cup of zero sugar yogurt mixed with almonds and snack on some zero carb things tonight plus a zero sugar energy drink. > its not physically possible to walk around with lots of shit in you, its going to be concentrated bile acid or trapped gas or something else
What in the world makes you think this?
What do you think constipation is?
No diarrhea, but yes cramping because my shits were so big and compacted they hurt moving through once i started eating fiber.

I’m trying to make bussers a thing on /ck/

My fiance lost over a 100lbs on keto, it seems so much more effective for managing satiation and cravings! He did “snake meal” so omad but A LOT of food at once lol
He ended up experiencing a lot of irritability and blood sugar instability once he got down to a healthier size.
We’re not sure if that is due to the medications he had been on, or if more carbs/fiber are just what he needs for blood sugar stability. Just something to keep an eye on.

>You decided to make a ton of assumptions because you won’t accept what you’re reading outside of your biased perspective
No I tried to guess at what the problem might be since you practically didn't provide any information.
>What in the world makes you think this?
Human biology, basic function of the digestive system. How do you think the bowel is going to be filled with shit without any significant amount of undigestible matter?
>What do you think constipation is?
>>Constipation means having fewer than three bowel movements a week, or passing hard, dry, and lumpy stools that are painful or hard to push out. It happens when the colon absorbs too much water or when waste moves too slowly through the digestive tract.
Anon...
>yes cramping because my shits were so big and compacted they hurt moving through once i started eating fiber
It sounds like you simply ate way too much fiber overall and whatever small period where you didn't wasn't enough until you started eating more food again which pushed the shit out of you from sheer volume, whereas when you have fiber poops backed up and don't eat any more you get trapped gas or bile acid behind it which can cause immense pain. But again thats just based on the information you provided.

I feel bad
Here’s one i really like: Beef cabbage rolls https://redhousespice.com/wprm_print/9164
> Wrappers
8 savoy cabbage leaves see note 1
1 long carrot optional
> Filling
4 dried shiitake mushrooms rehydrated in water
200 g minced pork/beef/chicken 7oz
1 stalk scallions, finely chopped
2 teaspoon light soy sauce Use gluten-free soy sauce to make the dish gluten-free
1 pinch Chinese five spice powder
1 pinch sugar
1 dash sesame oil
> Sauce
3 tablespoon mushroom water see note 2
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
> Instructions
Prepare the wrappers
Blanch cabbage leaves in boiling water until they begin to wilt (it should take no more than 20 seconds). Drain and set aside.
Use a vegetable peeler to peel off 8 narrow strips of carrots. Blanch for a few seconds then drain (optional).
Mix the filling
Squeeze out excess water in shiitakes mushrooms (keep the water in which the mushrooms are soaked for later use). Chop them into tiny pieces.
Put mushrooms, minced meat and all the seasonings into a bowl. Mix well.
Assemble the rolls
Place 1/8 of the filling in the middle of a cabbage leaf. Wrap it into a cylinder shape.
Tie the roll with a strip of carrot
Steam the rolls
Place the rolls into a serving plate then put into a steamer. Steam for 10 minutes.
If you don’t have a steamer, see note 3 for an alternative solution which is also demonstrated in my tutorial video below.
Make the sauce
While waiting for the rolled to cook, mix 3 tablespoons of the mushroom water with oyster sauce and cornstarch. Stir well.
Heat up the sauce over high heat. Remove as soon as it thickens. Pour it over the rolls. Serve warm.
Make in advance
You may keep raw, wrapped cabbage rolls in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Extend the steaming time to 12 minutes if just taken out from the fridge.

I’ve only made them once, but that’s just because I’m lazy. Not because they aren’t good.

Hey OP, good luck to you on it, but GO BUY POTASSIUM SUPPLEMENTS NOWNOWNOW.

For the first few days you'll be pissing out all of your electrolytes, and you WILL end up with very low sodium and potassium levels. You WILL need to supplement.

You can go into practically any major grocery store in the U.S., go to the salt aisle, and look for "No-Salt" or "Low-Salt", the salt substitutes. No-Salt is 100% potassium chloride. Low-Salt is a 50/50 mix of potassium chloride and sodium chloride (regular table salt).

If you don't supplement potassium, you will likely have to deal with tachycardia (extremely fast heartbeat). This is only moderately dangerous and rarely deadly, but you want to avoid being one of the "rarely" dead people.

Meat gets turned into a watery slurry in the stomach. It's one of the easiest foods for us to absorb because our stomach acid is very good at breaking it down into paste. We absorb almost all of it, because all of it can be found as natural parts of our bodies. If all you eat is meat, you are extremely unlikely to become constipated due to the lack of indigestible parts.

>>22140509
Keto is a good diet. I tried it out and it helped me a lot. Really let me experience the effect carbohydrates have on my hunger. Doing keto made me better at listening to my body. The sugar cravings will go down in a week or two. While your body switches over, you may allow yourself to eat more keto food than fits your daily caloric allowance to help your body make do without carbs until you get used to it. I found it easier to stick to strict keto than to allow myself rare cheat days where I do eat chocolate or cookies.
>>
>>22142736
If you are physically active you have to drink close to two liters of milk to come out of keto. Probably a lot more, depending on how active you are.

I would assume that maybe not everyone breaks down protein equally well, just like not everyone digests every type of carb well. And that undigested protein could lead to constipation.

Milk is highly absorbable when it digests properly, and most people who are lactose intolerant will get diarrhea from it, but some people end up experiencing constipation from it. Supposedly because the undigested lactose eventually ferments and produces methane which slows down your gut.

The effect of keto on body weight is well documented. Has been for decades. Or people wouldn't still be talking about and using the Atkins diet. The mechanism how going keto can affect your weight isn't even obscure. It's well understood that insulin effects hunger and can cause people to overeat.

Keto gained traction against the prevailing school of thought in nutrition science in the past decade because it works. Sorry that you get hysteric when people you don't know stop eating bread.

Only someone who is not overweight would ever say "just eat less".
Have you seen what three carb rich meals + a snack split into 1,500 calories looks like?
lol, that's why keto works for people.
I don't know why you are here. You don't have anything better to do than go to threads that don't concern you and call people retarded for just not eating less food? And then when they figure out a way to do that, you tell them they're doing it wrong.
>No! You still need to eat carbs. Just eat fewer of them. Eat a "balanced" diet, but still C.I.C.O.

I'm sorry you're a miserable person. This is a poor use of your time.
I'm guessing you're just fat and you've failed at every single diet so you're bitter at all of them.

I'm telling you that you're overcomplicating things. Literally just eat less. Count calories, it's incredibly simple. I know that having the discipline and willpower to follow through isn't easy but that's life.
I've eaten at a caloric surplus consistently to gain weight while lifting heavy, and I've eaten at a caloric deficit to lose weight on a cut. It just werks. Pretending that fad diet #10000 is going to magically solve your problem with portion control in a sustainable manner is fucking stupid.

If you don't cut carbs you don't get the benefits that come from cutting carbs such as reduced hunger and increased metabolism.

If people don't eat fruit it just means more for you fruit boy. No need to be upset.

The seething anger and constant lying to dissuade people from daring to try keto is 100% a vegan vendetta. You're upset that people are getting healthy while eating meat. You're upset they will tell other people about it. You're upset their demonstrable success will encourage others to eat more meat and get healthy themselves.
>>
>>22143347
In my experience it's not just carbs that increase hunger. If I eat fruit or rice or potatoes I end up feeling satiated without a ton of calories. I went a long time without eating anything like chips, and the first time I had a Cheeto in a few years it just felt like my brain lit up and told me to eat as many Cheetos as I could as quickly as I could. I never feel like that with fruit/rice/potatoes, but some processed food seems overstimulating for how low nutrition it really is.

Vegans absolutely hate keto. Vegan keto is a theoretical possibility that maybe, somewhere, someone managed to do for a week. So every person going keto and thriving on it demonstrates that heavy meat consumption can in fact be healthy. Vegans froth at the mouth at that, because it is an existential threat to veganism. They need people to believe meat is unhealthy or their movement dies out. So you get vegans becoming emotional and attacking keto with all kinds of nonsense arguments.
>>
>>22143366
>If you don't cut carbs you don't get the benefits that come from cutting carbs such as reduced hunger and increased metabolism.
Cutting processed junk food seems to do that for me. Fruit doesn't make me feel overly hungry and I can't really get that many calories from it before I feel like I'm tired of eating it. The water and fiber and having to chew it make it pretty different from something like drinking soda which is easy to drink a lot of.

>The seething anger and constant lying to dissuade people from daring to try keto is 100% a vegan vendetta.
I'm not vegan and I don't think a vegan diet is ideal. I don't recommend anyone to cut anything out of their diet except processed junk food. Which is why it seems silly to recommend cutting out unprocessed natural whole foods that have a 0% chance of causing weight gain and health problems like fruit. There is zero evidence of fruit causing any health issues, pretty much every study says people who eat fruit are healthier, and the people who tell you that fruit is unhealthy because it has sugar were never eating that much fruit in the first place. They just learn that a lot of processed food has sugar and then assume because fruit has sugar must mean it's bad too but they're still completely different foods.
>>
>>22143368
>fruit
Nice for you if it doesn't increase your appetite. I could eat fruit all day. They don't satiate me at all. Low carb didn't work for me until I cut out fruits as well.
>>
>>22143338
So you think we need fruit? I've never seen anyone claim it's bad. Some has a lot of sugar though. I eat a few kinds of berries and the occasional apple. I have no issue with fruit and I've been doing lowcarb for five years.

You don't need to keep arguing here. It's not the diet for you. You have no dog in the fight.
>>
>>22143369
We're not talking about smoking. Even if you don't get lung cancer, most smokers have issues like shortness of breath and frequent coughing and addiction issues. It's not a good comparison. Plenty of people eat carbs with zero issues.

>>22143373
Yeah some vegans do end up trying to make the diet about health even though omnivorous diets without junk food usually end up being the healthiest. I respect vegans more who can say the diet is difficult and can cause issues but they do it anyway for just the moral reasons which is why most of them start out doing it in the first place so I'm not sure why so many of them try to make it about health.
>>
>>22143349
People who eat carbs and aren't overweight have no business in this discussion. Really the discussion is for people who are doing keto. There's no purpose in you coming here and opining unprompted that people should not diet in this fashion.

Just leave the thread or justify your presence here. Is it because of eating animals? You work for the fucking mango council? LOL, why the fuck are you here? Just because you're a shitposting stubborn fag?

If you're happy in your life and you're healthy there's no reason for you to be here insulting people and telling us we're wrong.
>>
>>22143378
How many calories can you really get from fruit though? I could snack on it throughout the day but it's still unlikely to add up to more than a few hundred calories at the most. But if I was eating potato chips and dip and drinking soda that can easily get to 1000+ calories. But I don't notice my weight going up when I eat more fruit and I stay at a healthy weight.

I have read that some people may not digest sugars very well and it could lead to overeating on food later, so even if the sugar itself doesn't give many calories they still end up consuming too much overall.
>>
>>22143381
You can live without fruit but it seems to be pretty healthy and I've only ever read about benefits from eating it. I feel good eating it. If you haven't seen anyone claiming it's bad then you haven't looked hard enough. But there are also people who aren't on keto who think fruit is bad because of the sugar content as well.

I like berries but there are so many other fruits and it's just cutting out a ton of them for seemingly no good reason. I never heard of anyone who had a perfect diet and was overweight until they cut out fruit. Even starches don't seem to be the issue. Everyone I know who was overweight and found success with keto was constantly drinking soda and eating chips and cookies and I was glad keto helped them lose weight but they still became unhappy with the diet, and once they incorporated non-junk food starches they were happier and still maintained a normal weight.
>>
>>22143389
>insulting people
I haven't insulted anyone. I'm just participating in a discussion.
>>
>>22143390
>How many calories can you really get from fruit though?
Enough to fatten you up. The issue is that snacking on fruit gives some people more appetite, which leads to them eating fruit in addition to meals that already had their daily amount of calories. It's not like the fruit these people eat make them eat less of the other stuff. That's where keto comes in as a way to cut out these appetite raising effects of carbohydrates.
>>
>>22143401
>bread and heavy carb foods as candy which it really is given some time
Potatoes are pretty nutritious. Whole grains and beans too. There might be an argument that white flour has most of its nutrition removed and since it's mostly pure starch which turns into sugar it could be like eating candy, but the same isn't true for potatoes and less processed foods.
>>
>>22143393
But WHY are you here all this time in this discussion? You're unwelcome and just pissing everyone off.
>>
>>22143395
There are two people in here against keto and the other one calls people retards?
>>
>>22143404
Are we talking about fresh fruit? I know if I eat dry fruit I can definitely overeat that and get so many more calories but it usually hurts my stomach and I can't keep doing that.

I've just never really seen any examples of fruit leading to weight gain, it's almost always people who have already decided carbs/sugar are bad that fruit is a problem. There are some indicators that not everyone processes carbs the same way and it can lead to overeating, but nobody I knew who was overweight and did keto was eating much fruit if any at all.

>>22143411
Yeah I haven't called anyone a retard, that's someone else.

We simply have an insecure incel loser who has nothing better to do than push against the spirit of the thread.
No person content with his life goes into a thread about something he disagrees with and then spends all day trying to convince people they're wrong.

I don't care for sports, but I don't go onto that board and tell people they should stay away from sports. That doesn't make sense and neither does a healthy, thin, non-vegan coming to a keto thread to "participate in the discussion".

>I've just never really seen any examples of fruit leading to weight gain
If you eat sausages and the calorie equivalent in fruit, what fattens you up? The sausages or the fruit? Yes, fruit can absolutely make you put on weight.
>>
>>22143424
>Potatoes are quite bland really.
I dunno I can eat a plain potato and still think it tastes good. It tastes better with other things but even just a plain baked potato can make my mouth water.
>>
>>22143435
In theory yes but actually eating that much fruit isn't easy. It's mostly water and contains no fat, has a good amount of fiber, is often acidic, etc. so I end up just wanting to stop before getting anywhere near eating enough to gain much weight.
>>
>>22143413
I was never obese or noticeable overweight. But despite eating a well balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and an active lifestyle, I had a very active appetite and tethered on being overweight. Cutting out carbs was the solution to that.

Seriously, I was able to eat a kg of fruit in a day and all it did was make me feel physically full, not satiated.

That just sounds like you were at a normal weight then lol.

I can eat a lot of fruit once in a while but not every day. It's still mostly just water and carbs so it's not going to completely satiate you.

>But despite eating a well balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and an active lifestyle
Were you using much butter or oil? People nowadays seem to think that those things are necessary for a balanced diet despite common advice before being to limit them. Also, things like white rice and white bread may not inherently cause obesity but are more likely to do so compared to brown rice and whole wheat.
>>
>>22143438
You don't need to eat literally the same amount of calories in fruit as your other food for fruit to push you over the edge to weight gain.

>I end up just wanting to stop before getting anywhere near eating enough to gain much weight
Not everybody experiences things the same way you do.
>>
>>22143446
That's just because fruit was expensive. Unless you grew it yourself it wasn't really available to most people unless you were wealthy.

A lot of them were also alcoholics and eating a lot of their equivalent of processed foods because they could afford it.
>>
>>22143450
I grew up eating steak and lobster. Potatoes still taste good.

>Were you using much butter or oil? People nowadays seem to think that those things are necessary for a balanced diet despite common advice before being to limit them.
Nope. I ate very healthy. Even cooked nearly all of the food I ate myself. Yes, with fresh greens, salats and whole grains.

I am telling you to demonstrate the change going keto made for me.

>white rice and white bread
Ok. And? I didn't bring them up.
>>
>>22143449
>Not everybody experiences things the same way you do.
I don't think that's true.
>>
>>22143458
You should start thinking.
>>
>>22143455
>Ok. And? I didn't bring them up.
I did, just out of curiosity.

I've read that something like 15% of people produce less of the enzymes required to digest starch and this has been associated with obesity, despite the starch itself not actually giving as many calories. It is possible that some people who find benefit with keto could be experiencing this. There are similar issues with types of sugars but I don't know if that's associated with obesity in the same way. I've wondered before if maybe it's not that all carbs are bad for some people but that they might struggle with certain kinds which is underrecognized. Some people might be okay with starch and not sugar or vice versa.

Those issues are somewhat common for people who live near the arctic since carbs weren't really available in any form, though it's less common elsewhere especially as you get closer to the equator.
>>
>>22143421

Starch gets split up into glucose by our saliva. That's what starch is. A long chain of glucose.

>>
>>22143492

Yes, but some people don't produce much of the enzymes to split starch in the first place so it leads to excessive feelings of hunger and then overeating on foods they can actually get more calories from. I said that in the post.
>>
>>22143491
So you're an idiot or you're posting in bad faith. The point is clear. You're just into arguing in general against anything on the side of low carb. You have no life. Instead of participating in threads you're enthusiastic about, you're playing defense on a topic you oppose.

Because that might explain why a certain number of people do find success with keto. I'm not sure why you're getting upset and thinking I'm trying to disprove something by giving information that affirms why keto might work for some people.

OP here. Might as well make a day 3 post since I'm done eating everything for the day. 4 eggs for lunch + cheese, and now just 300g of pork tenderloin, well salted, and 90g of broccoli with hot sauce for supper. I got sugar free cream soda for my beer substitute instead of the energy drinks as a) they have no carbs and b) I wont be up until 2:30am again unable to sleep. Might explore eating raspberries at some point for some natural sweetness in my diet. Thanks for the supporting posts and even the shitposting stuff as it generates discussion + laughs. Thanks also in advance for the Reddit gold kind stranger.

Sucralose is fine. I did keto for over a year and never had any gut problems. I like to put sucralose in unsweetened greek yogurt or for a real treat, in cream cheese.
>>
>>22143507
We know why keto works. It effects the insulin levels by reducing blood sugar spikes after eating. Insulin clears the bloodstream from sugar, triggering hunger signals in many people.

Also ketones change how our brains work and other stuff. The keto diet is used for lots of things in medicine.
>>
>>22143526
At this rate the thread won't be here for you to post about your fourth day. Stick with it and you'll lose the weight. Glad you're not drinking energy drinks.
>>
>>22143526
Good on you. Personally I wouldn't add berries into your diet until you are well used to keto.

You checked the hot sauce for sugar content, right?
>>
>>22143537
That's too extreme. You can have strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries on keto. And fucking hot sauce? Most do not contain any sugar.

THAT is the reason people go off the diet. They think having even trace carbs will ruin everything.
Buy stuff with "no sugar added" and don't worry about most condiments. If you need some sauce to eat a bunch of meat just have it. The diet will still work. Just don't drink soda and eat candy or bread or rice or potatoes and you'll lose weight.

Fucking getting apps and doing math and avoiding every little carb only serves to discourage.
It's a lifestyle change. Broad strokes.
>>
>>22143536
I'll likely make threads idk once a week or so just so I'm not spamming what could be construed as a "blog." I'll keep a log of my meals in the meantime. Thank you! This is about to be my first weekend not consuming any alcohol in years.

Okay thanks for that, it's a hot sauce with pretty much nothing in it, carbs or otherwise.
>>22143546
For me, my goal is less than 20g carbs every day so a serving of any of those fruits is 1/4 of the day's carbs but with no fat and barely any calories. And using an app and math was how I lost like 40 lbs the last time I went on a diet years ago. I only really fell off because I broke up with my girlfriend (as she then was) and got into heavy drinking / bad lifestyle shit.

OP here for day 4. Had a nice 5-egg omelet with cheese and tomatoes and spinach for breakfast then "supper" was some cheese strings and an avocado. Might snack on some dills before bed. Didn't really feel like meat today. Barely feeling any hunger. Had some cravings for sugar today but nothing that led me to seriously consider caving in or anything.

"Don't get fat." Great advice? Lol. I think some lucky chucklefucks who say this shit are just people with good metabolisms / a naturally active lifestyle that don't "get" how people even become fat. It's a bit annoying; ignorance at some point becomes your own fault past a certain age.
>>22144931
How do you normally secure your sugar-free bacon? Nowhere near me sells it. I'd love to be able to snack on bacon but the grocery store goyslop variety packs 1 carb per slice thanks to the sugar they pile into every item imaginable for no discernible reason.

Kroger has a sugarfree bacon in their simple truth brand. My walmart carries Applegate Naturals brand sugarfree bacon. Worth mentioning that the small amount of sugar on standard cured bacon won't necessarily kick you out of ketosis, especially if you make sure to have some fat with it.

Yep. Since I started 5 days ago, I have barely felt hunter and I've been eating at least 1/3 of the calories. I feel less hungry now then I did when I was eating way more calories and tons of carbs.
>>
Day 5 here. I had one meal today, just a few minutes ago: 580g (before cooking) of boneless, skinless chicken thighs (cooked in a tbsp of pure butter) and 170g of broccoli, boiled. Plus 30g of cheese for a before-dinner snack. (added pickling vinegar to the chicken, no carbs, for extra flavor as I love vinegar) I sort of forced it all down because I knew it was my one meal until tomorrow, possibly tomorrow night.

I almost feel sick it was so filling. Granted it is 1330 calories but goddamn. I used to eat entire 10 inch pizzas that were way more than that and I wouldn't feel nearly as full (plus one or maybe 2 refills of soda AND possibly even some of my wife's brownie dessert.)

Some anon a few days ago "shit" on keto saying it only works because you can't eat much keto food before you get full (Something to that effect) and I agree. Why is that a bad thing though? It's perfect for someone like me with an addictive personality. Portion control relies on willpower but right now even if I had zero willpower I wouldn't want to eat more because I am FULL AS FUCK.
>>
>>22146605
Obviously there's nothing wrong with eating more satiating foods. But for some people, it's not just that they eat less because the food is more satiating but they eat less because they just don't really enjoy it. And it's not because carbs are addictive like drugs or whatever.

Some people probably could benefit from more fat and protein but that doesn't mean they have to give up carbs. Something like pizza isn't going to be very filling because it's mostly white flour. Not only is wheat less satiating when you remove the bran, but turning it into flour makes it digest even faster. If you ate whole wheat berries instead of white flour you'd probably be full for 2-3x as long and end up eating less.

I know if I eat anything made with flour I seem to end up eating more and getting hungry sooner. And then if it's something like cookies I can end up overeating so much pretty easily because they're just not very satiating. But if I have brown rice and fruit and milk I just seem to be full a lot longer and end up consuming less calories despite them all being decent sources of carbs.
>>
>>22146651
You are correct. I mean sure, you can definitely do the same thing by eating a bunch of plain beans and brown rice, for example. Or a bunch of brown rice and fruit and milk. But you're not getting the benefit of ketosis in that instance. Whether or not what you listed, or what I listed, is "tastier" is up to personal preference (I personally would have a hard time forcing down enough brown rice and fruit and milk to make up the same 1330 calories that I had tonight with my chicken and broccoli.) So the only objective difference seems to be ketosis. Any vitamin / mineral deficiencies can be taken care of with supplements.
>>
>>22146651

Day 6 post. Meal today was 90g cheese, avocado, 1/2 cup no sugar / 2% plain yogurt and 1/3 cup of raw almonds. I am OP. I did in fact contradict myself there, didn't I? But I believe that the benefit of ketosis is worth cutting back this much on carbs, and plus eating keto is not as much of a chore as it would be to include healthy carbs in might diet. I don't really like any healthy carbs - I am not really a fruit fan and I hate whole wheat bread + brown rice. MAYBE in a year when I am my goal weight I will reintroduce them and give up ketosis. Not sure yet. But what I am doing so far is working, and I haven't even tried all the keto foods I can or any recipes. This is just week 1.
