>>22145162It doesn't have meat. Mincemeat is a fruit and spice mixture.
>>22145168It seems to be a 50/50 split between folks if there's actually meat in their traditional mincemeat pie
>>22145188like with marmite, i guessyou either put mites in or you dont
>>22144855I thought it was just raisins in modern day. Raisins, prunes, dates etc those types of things

>>22144814>not by most peopleWell, by fluent English speakers anyway.Bread too, you ever remove the flesh from a bread roll to stuff it full of stew or something?>>22144688>What do you do with this? Bake it into pies? They're actually considered tarts.I consider them one of the best parts of Christmas but this is not a universally shared opinion.Start making your mince about now and it will be fully cured by December and you can make your tarts. For a while I lived somewhere that western Christmas foods were unavailable and I didn't have shit unless I made it myself.Ended up using stuff like candied cherry tomatoes in the mince meat, it still turned out excellent.>>22144855>the fuck is mincemeat if it isnt meatIn English "meat" often just means the inner/central part of something. E.G. The meat of the matter...>>22145188>It seems to be a 50/50 split between folks if there's actually meat in their traditional mincemeat pieI've never heard of a mincemeat tart that contained animal meat.Pies contain minced meat but they're not call the same thing.
>>22144688TIL something new. I always thought "mincemeat" was like a finely shredded beef or mutton or something like that. I like savory pies better anyway.
>>22145930>I always thought "mincemeat" was like a finely shredded beef or mutton or something like thatIn modern use, it usually is.This specific ingredient/product has an archaic name.Historically, these tarts did sometimes contain meat though and suet was a common ingredient. I once bought a box of suet to make an OG version but never got around to it and left it behind when I moved out of that home.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mincemeat#Etymology
>>22145930for all cases:minced meat ≠ mincemeatfor some cases:minced meat ⊂ mincemeat
>>22144688HURR DURR mincemeat is meat!HUURRRR!
>>22144688This strikes me as one of those things that people used to make exclusively at home but there's a tiny tiny market for old people that buy it premade and it'll disappear in like 20 years
>>22146322>This strikes me as one of those things that people used to make exclusively at homeNot really, it was always sold premade in certain kinds of stores and homemade ones locally at Sunday markets and places like that. Only a minority of people would make it at home, a bit like making jam or other preserves.Retirees are more likely to make it because they have the lifestyle to undertake small projects and to forward plan for Christmas.I think the premade will disappear but mostly because there's not much reason to homebake tarts if you can buy premade, they're not expensive enough to justify the effort and homemade tarts aren't that much better than store bought.
>>22144688What did you think they did with all the mink carcasses after they harvested the furs...? Minksmeat, duh
