This is $18.95 at Peter Luger Steakhouse in NYC
>>
>>22153449
i thought it was mozzarella which still seemed expensive but if it was made in the restaurant i could sort of understand it
>>
It's hand plated...

WHOLE raw onion slices 1/2 inch thick on raw tomato cut 1/2 inch thick with some mystery sauce that looks like poop for $19

At least throw some fresh herbs on there and some mozzarella and call it a lazy caprese salad this shit is sad and no one is going to go on a date somewhere you eat entire slices of raw onion.
>>
Ok. What's the problem exactly?
>>
>>22153486
they're only able to charge that much because of the restaurant name
>>
>>22153491
False, They only charge that much because of morons like OP
>>
>>22153449
Is that chili sauce or ketchup. Cocktail sauce? This looks like a snack I ate as an autistic child.
>>
>>22153554
It's Peter Luger steak sauce.
>>
>>22153551
That's from a YouTube video, genius

I have never understood why this particular restaurant is held up as an NYC staple and a destination on the same level as something like Katz's. The steaks don't look good and the interior of the place is fucking ugly. I don't get the appeal at all.
>>
>>22153449
I had a ploughman's caprese once, and boy was he angry.
>>
>>22153449
>NYC
until they hang mamdani you shouldn't be spending money inside the city limits.
>>
why does anyone use beefsteak tomatoes that shit is such fucking ass
>>
>>22153449
how the fuck is this place a cash only steakhouse? oh yeah, let me just pull out 2 grand in cash to pay the tab. completely retarded
>>
>>22153449
stuff like this killed fine dining for me. I'll go if I'm obligated to but otherwise the only thing I can stomach is a unique hole in the wall or diner that's only moderately overpriced.

Between watchfag Finance Guys, Tourists who "want one of those real New York City Steakhouses" and Rich guys trying to show a girl how good he's doing so she'll bang him there will always be a place for Peter Luger's.
It survived Williamsburg's Dark Ages and now despite bad press, the neighborhood is shiny and rich. So it'll go on for another 100 years. No matter how many zero star reviews it gets.
Dry aging and shit or something.
Speaking of Williamsburg food culture, RIP to the Serena Meme Halal Cart on Bedford.

>lazy caprese
sounds like a viral food trend that could really take off in 2026
>>
>>22154042
i lived around there about 15 years ago and that pizza place on the east side of the street like half a block north of the bedford L stop was my favorite pizza in the city, the lasagna slice was fucking amazing. to be fair i only ever had it drunk though. never went to luger's i'm too autistic for steak.
>>
>No credit cards are accepted at either Brooklyn or Great Neck locations. Accepted forms of payment are Peter Luger house accounts, US checks with valid photo ID, and US debit cards.
Why? That doesn't even give it some cash-only cachet, that's just inconvenient.

My friend I offer this advice in complete sincerity. Delete this tweet immediately. Our history and tradition with that place is something that’s beyond your years. I’m asking you not to disrespect that over a jacket you didn’t receive.

Why? Aren't they an absolute institution in America? In other parts of the world they are still relatively rare but how can you not accept card in NYC?
Somewhere an eagle cries.

>>22154341
>Somewhere an eagle cries
Don't wiggle in your seat, wouldn't want that plug perforating your rectum.

As for why no credit cards, because it eats at their profits (the CC companies charge a fee ofc) and book keeping grift.
>>
it's probably money laundering. a lot of that shit goes on right in plain sight in the city, no one really gives a fuck unless someone's trying to get elected.

ONE OTHER THING: I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE NEED LOWER CASE. ROMANS WERE FINE WITHOUT IT. TODAY, EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET ACTS AS IF I AM YELLING AT THEM, JUST BECAUSE I USE THE ORIGINAL ROMAN SCRIPT, EXCLUSIVELY. THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM, NOT MINE.
>>
you can make caprese at home
provided you can get fresh grown basil
without salmonella poop on it
>>
>>22153449
I am mad at New York. For the single reason that they still get the KFC popcorn chicken promotion (McDonald's McRib-style) while we, here in Chicago are the early adopters. It will be discontinued everywhere, eventually. It's just nice to know that the Chicago area is on the cutting edge. Just like the Miami area, what with all its celebrities.

yes, i realize it's tomato and onion. the past tense "thought" means i no longer think it's mozzarella, it just looked like it could've been which would've been slightly more justifiable for the price.

I made my own version for 35 cents
I used Arby's sauce
The tomato was perfectly ripe
I have to admit, it was pretty good

You're more generous with the sauce than the restaurant. Then again, it's not on par with Luger's Own Sauce, now is it?
>>

$22 for a burger is about what you'd pay at any of the generic craft brewpubs you can find everywhere now. $5 more for fries is the same.

Sounds about right, for that retarded shithole of a city.

tomatoes look like cheap plastic supermarket tomatoes too. the least they could do is use some fancy heirloom tomatoes. anon here is right>>22156101. it probably costs them under a couple of dollars to make
