Made sushi for the first time. Canned tuna and cucumber. Before you yell at me, i searched 5 stores for tuna filets, salmon or anything close to it. All out. Every goddamn store. But let's call it practice. Next time I use proper fish meat. I think I got the hang of rolling them pretty good. And the rice wasn't even the special sticky kind. I just k ow how to cook it to make it sticky. I dipped it in some soy sauce. Pretty good for a first timer I would say
>>
You made maki.
It takes three years and a thousand folds to make sushi.

Way to go OP. Be sure to freeze raw fish for a week to make it safe for sushi.

canned fish a prob the best way to start off making sushi. Build up your skillset slowly. Quantity and wrapping size. Vinegar addition. Other ingredients. Making sides and sauces. Decorating. Working with raw fish. All little steps to bring you closer to perfection.

Looks good op, I'd eat.

All fish was already frozen for weeks before it was thawed at the grocery store

No, nae never. Then it's not sushi. It should be kept cool over ice and cut up and served immediately out of the water.

Sorry about that, you are right its maki

Thank you. My fridge is not the best to buy fresh fish and freezeit at home. Maybe i should buy already frozen fish instead
>>
If I can keep my fridge below 60 I'm happy so I understand.

i tell people this all the time and they don’t believe me. all sushi and fish in restaurants and stores in the u. s. is flash frozen immediately after catching. the only way you can get unfrozen fresh fish is if you’re eating on a boat and someone caught it. or maybe a restaurant near the ocean but extremely unlikely

People believe what they want to believe. They don't like to change the paradigm that they've been working with their whole lives.

Is there such a thing as low-intensity seaweed wrap? I really like sushi, but I find the seaweed to be a little too powerful. Something that was toned down a bit would make it a better experience.

it looks good

To make sushi rice:
-Rice cooker
-3 cups short grain white rice
-3.75 cups water
-Cook in rice cooker
-Mix mirin, sugar, and salt in a little bowl, you need 3 tbsp mirin, 3 tbsp sugar, and 1-2 tsp or so of salt. You can subtract sugar if needed for diet reasons.
-Mixture gets poured over the paddle and then mixed into the rice.
-Cool the rice
-Wet hands prior to handling rice
-Make rolls, sushi, or use in molds for musubi or otherwise.

I did pretty much all of that. Even bought mirin. Mixed it with the rice, left it to cool. I did try to form the rice with wet hands but it didnt work out so well. This time I used plastic gloves so it doesn't stick
