I can think of dozens of ethnic food types that have an audience and presence in the US, but not Brazilian food. Why exactly?

>In 2020, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimated the number of Brazilian Americans to be 1,775,000, 0.53% of the US population at the time.
there's basically no brazilians here
>>
because other ethnic foods, which are more established, cover everything that brazillian '''food''' is and a lot better. no one cares about shittier versions of food they already enjoy.
/thread
>>
Food popularity is a direct function of how big of a diaspora one country has in the US. How good is the food is secondary. How popular pizza and italian food got in murica (and by extension, worldwide) is a result of italian migration in the early XX century. Same for mexican, etc.
>>
Do you live in Babyjesusburg, Whogivesafucksylvania? That shit was all the rage about twenty years ago.

We don't have many Brazilians. Simple as. The only Brazilian food that's really known in the US is the Brazilian meat buffets where meat men come around with skewers of meat to deposit on your plate. The only other things Brazilians are known for in the US is soccer and trans women.
>>
>>22160669
OP likes deposits from meat swords

>louisiana style sausage, beans and rice
>southern style fritters
>new orleans shrimp gumbo
>new mexican flan
Wow you've stumbled on a real mystery, anon.

Honestly, this.
Brazilian food overlaps too much with anything Cajun to really stand out.

Hot dogs, mayo, and rice
We already have trash here man

Brazilian style restaurants like Fogo de Chão were quite popular for a while. They still exist, but their cultural moment seems to have passed.
>>
>>22161369
>beans. BEANS! BEANS WITH EVERYTHING!
BASED
>>
>>22162007
There are a handful of places like Fogo too in US cities that specialize in Brazilian fare, but it's too niche to spread outside that. Plus it's not like some Asian countries that are funding active culture pushes in the US to promote their food as "food diplomacy".

>>22161398
They are kinda good, I was surprised. But definitely not the "best" of the steak world.
>>
>>22161369
Mexicans eat way more beans than we do. So much so that when Mexican places started to open up more widely about 10 years ago, nobody wanted beans or rice in their burritos and everyone asked for fries instead.

I agree with you that our pizzas and hot dogs and stuff are exagerated in terms of toppings, but most people here think more = better
>>
>>22160618
There's a Brazilian grill near me, such restaurants can thrive if people have the money to want variety. I also think that you could argue this about Caribbean food, but it's like a well-spiced, but mild version of favorites like curry, fried chicken, seafood, etc. So it comes down to how they'd make the food for a western palate
>>
>>22162007
>their cultural moment seems to have passed.
I would say that if they can make their stuff go viral, people would take more interest again. There's always been an interest in Brazil, even if a lot of the memes are about them being 3rd world. Some of their dishes also got co-opted before they could do anything, like the acai berry trend, but how many people have tried it the way they do? There's also Brazilian lemonade, all their fruit varieties, etc.
>>
Arent Brazillian steak houses a thing? Do you people really eat off swords?
>>
>>22162007
>their cultural moment seems to have passed
By and large I think this is true, although here in central Texas HEB has been pushing Brazilian seasoned pork chops and these Brazilian style steaks that I think are pretty good. BR huehue food might see a resurgence if this catches on.

If you think there are "basically no Brazilians" or "not many Brazilians" in America then come to Orlando I dare you...Brazilians are fucking everywhere and I mean fucking EVERYWHERE around here. At this point they seem to be even more common than Hispanic people such as Puerto Ricans or Mexicans.
>>
>>22160611
>I can think of dozens of ethnic food types that have an audience and presence in the US
I can think of dozens that don’t. actually most countries’ cuisines don’t thrive here. why don’t we eat polish food? or russian food? or cuban, iranian, norwegian, egyptian, honduran. we don’t even eat canadian food despite them being our next door neighbor and basically identical to us. I’m sure each of these has a few restaurants around the country or it might be very popular in one city because of a large migration happening there at some point in time. but on a large scale it’s unheard of.
>>
>>22162437
Yeah and there are probably a lot more Brazilian restaurants there than other parts of the states. Orlando will have a shitton more Cubans than the rest of the states too, your city is not indicative of anything.
>>
>>22162437
okay but orlando is just one city in one state in a huge country with 49 other states. it's not even representative of 1% of the country. it's 0.0 something %

anything is a bannable offense when 4chan staff is having a bad day. they’ll just say you’re trolling or whatever and send you on your way. thankfully it doesn’t happen on this board but on others the avatarfags and namefags run wild and just get away with it for years

oh that reminds me. this guy from /co/ called "blossomfag" who basically constantly sexualizes the character blossom from the powerpuff girls who is like 5 or 6 years old and every single one of his replies/posts he has an avatar of blossom reacting to something. he's being doing it for like 15 years for like 60 hours a week and still hasn't been banned

>>
>why don't you have little ti'ger like we do in brazil

Brazilian food is basically eating carbs squared. The will regularly eat a plate of
>rice
>beans
>potatos
+ some meat
>>
>>22162635
true but it's not really unique to brazil. i'd say the coxinhas above it are more of a brazil original

Bro as a chicken lover coxinhas might literally be my favorite thing ever. Too bad I don't get to have them very often.

>>
>>22160611
Because brazilian food is boring and bland, most are poorfag versions of other countries' dishes. Also the sweets are extremely sweet and made with poor ingredients such as margarine and sweet condensed milk (barf). Central american food is more interesting.

Bro you have literally no idea what you're even talking about, do you even know what those foods are? Did you just see a yelllw food and go "mhm yes must be a fritter"
>>
>>22162993
Okay real talk I ain't no vegetarian and especially not no vegan, in fact the complete opposite and I do realize the hypocrisy of people (in Western cultures at least) considering animals like pigs and cows okay to eat despite them arguably being even more intelligent than cats and dogs which for some reason are not okay to eat...but eating an animal that's so close to being human just rubs me the wrong way.

I'm fine with eating literally any other animal but eating primates just feels so wrong. It almost feels like eating distant family members. I'd seriously rather eat something like a cockroach or centipede than something like a monkey or a gorilla.

The US, while having a population the size of Europe, only has a handful of genuine media outlets. They decide what's "content'" or "art" and what's not - and they're governed by their board of investors (Congress). American people get Escoffier, a bit of Bocuse and maybe some Robuchon. They've never heard of Yannick Alléno or Arnaud Donckele. They think Dijon mustard is a thing, and that kosher salt is a valid substitution for Maldon salt. Barely any of them ever heard of the king of Italian cuisine, Gualtiero Marchesi, let alone Alajmo, Cracco, Cedroni or Cannavacciuolo. They don't know shit about the world they live in, but they're constantly fed the idea that they're tuned in. Some might have heard the name Alex Atala, none ever bothered looking at your country's rich history. Why would they? They're being kept in check by MacDonalds and Southern flags.

Why would you care though? They're objectively irrelevant, from a culinary perspective.
>>
>>22160611
Because there's nothing special about Brazilian food. You give someone a Portuguese, Argentinian, Peruvian dish and they would never be able to tell the difference
>>
>>22160611

>>
>>22163305
I agree with every thing you say . . .Americans are toddlers when it come to food (just look at the catalogue to spot the American threads) and Yes - " They're objectively irrelevant, from a culinary perspective".

But it still doesn't explain the lack of Brazilian food outside of South America. Perhaps I can help?

Brazil has nothing really unique that anyone will crave and even though it might taste good in Brazil, it doesn't work internationally.

Maybe Brazil could team together with some other South American countries and follow the USA model of Franchises and Corporations?
