Why isn't smoked canned fish popular in Britain and presumably the rest of western Europe and America? I'm sure we can all agree that tinned foods are pretty shit and are something you keep around for when you're too lazy or hungover. I'm sure we can all agree that smoking the shitty fish you find in tins elevates it to another levels. So why are the two not combined here? I've literally never seen any kind of smoked canned fish for sale in any UK supermarket, and have to go to my local Arabic sklep to get these dodgy Baltic smoked sprats, which seems strange to me considering that Britain has a culture of smoking its salmon, mackarel, and kippers.

>>22171925>seems strange to me considering that Britain has a culture of smoking its salmon, mackarel, and kippers.british culture is (not so slowly) being destroyed from within, which is probably a contributing factor. pie and mash shops are almost extinct for this reason, because people would rather buy spice bags or dodgy curries
>>22171925I have a tin of these in my cupboard but i'm scared of them so i just go herring instead. What do you eat sprats with?
>>22172079They're pretty much just sardines, so whatever you eat your deenz with.
>>22172075Foreign food is like the cult of slaanesh (to get very virginal with one's references). The other day I had a Cornish pasty from one of the top rated pasty places in the land, and all I could think was "where the fuck is the flavour?". I could still tell that it was prepared with care and with fantastic local fare, it was just missing something. Spice Corrupts. I imagine old school pie and mash are going the way of the dodo for similar reasons. Also spice bags are an Irish thing. Tell a paddy they're british and he'll fight ya if he's not too drunk to stand up. >>22172079I just have them over garlic toast, crackers, etc. They're rich and flavoursome enough without the need to frou-frou things up.
>>22172087Sardines are just insipid fish-slop if we're talking bout the unsmoked ones. The need to jazz them up with recipes is evidence enough. They're incomparable to the pauper-to-prince elevation that happens when sprats are smoked.
>>22172087>Binomial name>Sprattus sprattuslmao>>22172098>I just have them over garlic toastthat sounds dope thanks senpai
>>22171925For me the smoke flavor is never subtle, it's always way too much and after one bite I don't want any more, the same goes for smoked salmon too.
>>22171925>I've literally never seen any kind of smoked canned fish for sale in any UK supermarket>literallyFFS anon cut it out. Kippers are sold in pretty much EVERY supermarket but they are not in tins, they are normally in plastic packets. I have no idea why you have to go to an Arabic shop to get smoked sprats, pretty much every Polish or Eastern Euro shop sells them but they tend to be dried and as for unsmoked sprats, you need a fish monger for those. >>22172075>british culture is (not so slowly) being destroyed from within, which is probably a contributing factor. pie and mash shops are almost extinct for this reasonNah Pie and mash shops were always an East End of London thing (along with jellied eels) and we don't all live in London But I understand there are a few left, kept alive by die-hards and tourists.
>>22171925think harder
>>22172456>NahYah, traitor
I became a sprats enjoyer when russia occupied crimea and suddenly our grocery stores were full of products with cyrillic letters that were normally exported to Russia. To any aspiring sprats eater, this is the brand. The heavy metals from the baltic sea only make it taste better.
>>22171925> cannedJust buy smoked fish not in a can?
>>22174273damn that looks good>>22174327the point of the can is that they used to be cheaper and last longer than buying the alternative
It's been more than a decade. You can stop pretending this shit isn't gross. Your meme is dead, retard.

i prefer kipper snacks (smoked Herring filets) because they're big enough that they take out the bones, i also think they taste much better than sardines
