I've been watching a lot of the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons lately, and it got me into a chili dogs phase....but I dont understand the appeal. It's beautiful slop but it dulls the flavor of what it tops.

Yeah euro here who tasted a chili dog while in USA. The flavours didn’t sync at all. It was just slop on top of slop. Something you’d make at home in the evening.

I like a low effort microwave chili dog with canned shit and a ballpark pork/chicken mushy tube, but if you want "the best" chili dog you need to go the Detroit coney route Which is to say, a much more flavorful decent quality frank, nature casing skin and juicy all beef cuts

a chili dog isn't chili on a hot dog. chili sauce is a specific condiment and it's heavily spiced. look up a recipe for actual chili sauce and not one that comes from a children's comic book.
