a sandwich has never been improved by adding a third slice of bread in the center
>>
yes it has

>wow this sandwich really needs to be slightly harder to bite into for an ingredient adding nothing to the meal
>>

why do they make them like this? its intentionally being made to be bigger than the mouth can accommodate. there has to be a reason

>he uses bread so shitty that it adds nothing to the sandwich
You are in no place to judge sandwiches, retard.

a recipe i found from 1928 said to use 1/4 inch thick bread which would be a bit thinner than most bread today. also they probably weren't putting so much meat so overall the sandwich would be thinner. it just seems to have gotten bigger over the years like a lot of food items.

I figured them out when I thought of them as two sandwiches with less bread instead of one sandwich with more bread. It's understandable to miss this considering the most famous example barely counts as one nowadays but you'll see the next time you make sandwiches. Just assemble a second sandwich on top of the first and tell the others what you saw.

The one inside gets toasted, the two on the outside do not.
It just works

this but with sliced tomato
>>

The structure can actually improved, especially if you toast both sides
