Any recommendations? I've always had basic pure white porcelain plates and bowls and wanted to buy something more fancyBut I'm scared of the darker coloured stuff cause Idk how food will look on it

Stick to classic whites for everyday use, the only acceptable color is a discrete pattern/line on the edge.Everything served on a dark plate would look better on a white one.
I like the multicolour reactive glaze plates that were common twenty years ago and would live to replace some that have broken since having a kid. My wife and her family used metal plates growing up but they're exceptionally uncomfortable. I prefer glazed ceramic stoneware.See >>22179436? That's a reactive glaze over a matte glaze. Those're the ones I like. I've got white plates, too, but i prefer some colour because our furniture is all pine or cedar so dinnerware and shit on the wall is how we get some colour in the house.

I serve my kids food in this. It’s microwave safe and keeps them occupied for longer than a traditional plate.

>>22179381I can give you an anti-recommendation. Corelle. I had some cheapo plates from them for a few years. They picked up dishwasher funk somehow and in just never went away. Like they were porous or something. Other dishes, 20+ years old had no problems. So F this brand.
