How do I really bring out flavours of fruits in smoothies?I've been trying to make healthy banana strawberry smoothies and I can taste the bananas but no matter what I do with strawberries, the flavour never really comes through. Tried upping the amount of strawberries, buying better quality ones and all I ever get is vague plant tastes. Attemping to add stuff like lemon juice or vanilla yoghnurt just makes then overpower even the slight bit of strawberry that comes through.
>>22180704>buying better quality onesgrow wild strawberries, even 'fancy' ones are still bred for longevity. or use jam
>>22180706Aiming to make it as healthy as possible, jam won't do that.
>>22180707Make your own strawberry concentrate? It’ll probably take a bit of time and hella strawberries, but you can control the sugar content.
Two questions: 1) do you smoke and2) how do you know the strawberries you're buying are better quality than ones you've used previously? The trick with strawbs is that if they smell like nothing, they taste like nothing so get the strongest smelling ones you can.Alternately? Buy frozen. I wash and freeze fresh strawberries myself but people swear to the quality of frozen strawberriest. guy who has a fruit smoothie most mornings in the summer
>>22180704No chance without sugar or fat.
>>22180712>No chance without sugar or fat.maybe 50 years ago
Natural yogurt, strawberries, sweetener of choice.Literally how do you fail that.
>>22180716Msg doesn't work with fruits and artifial sweeteners taste like shit.
>>22180724Sucralose and cyclamate have no aftertaste. They're not a 1:1 experience to eating sugar, but you can get used to it, and they work well enough in cold desserts and coffee/tea.
>>22180738>Sucralose >no aftertasteMaybe I'm misremembering but I'm pretty sure it very much does have an aftertaste. We keep some around in case guests are diabetic or something but never use any myself. My wife is brown so there's a lot of diabetes in her family.I don't even know what that other sweetener is.
>>22180742I think it was banned in the US based on some faulty study, it's probably closest to sugar you can get, except maybe sugar alcohols, but those still have calories and I'm wary of putting like 2 tablespoons of sweetener in my coffee just to taste it.
>>22180742It definitely has an aftertaste
Pineapple. For smoothies, the answer is always to add pineapple.
>>22180704pinch of salt and a dash of black pepperit works
>>22180704ive got a scope today and was thinking about what i should eat right after. this thread sealed the deal. i cant WAIT to have a strawberry banana smoothie
>>22180716sucralose is literally processed sugar
>>22180704To me ripe banana will always overpower ripe strawberry. Maybe make a strawberry compote to try and concentrate the taste.>>22180710Any recs (get or avoid) on store bought frozen strawberries?
>>22180807granulated sugar is also literally processed
>>22180831>Any recsNo, sorry. Like I said, I usually freeze fresh strawberries myself and only at the peak of natural strawberry season. I can't imagine any frozen ones would be bad, though except maybe bargain brands. They don't have the logistical problem of needing to be shipped and eaten fresh, which is solved by shipping underripe and ripening them chemically with ethylene. They're generally picked ripe and frozen ripe.
Frozen bananas.Mutes banana flavor while also makes it sweeter, thicker, creamier. Also no need for ice so less watered down.Contrastly strawberries probably better fresh.
>>22180704cook the strawberries down and add a bit of sugar and two drops of lemon juice
add a dollop of this.
>>22180704add a splash of lemon juice
>>22180704Try and throw an apple or some oats into the mix. I find the extra sugar and texture enhances the flavour sometimes.
>>22180704Use dried strawberries - concentrates the flavor. Whizz them in a food processor ahead of time to turn them into strawberry dust, then add to your smoothie, and sprinkle some on top to enhance the aroma.
Frozen strawberries are unironically superior. The fresh cultivars you buy in stores are bred to be hardy, and that comes at a cost. Furthermore, they are picked unripe. Cultivars for freezing on the other hand are bred for maximum flavor and coloring and are picked at peak ripeness. You could try freeze-dried, but these have a weird hay aftertaste. Concentrating using heat will also change the flavor profile drastically (basically to strawberry jam).
>>22180807No...It's CHLORINATEDIt also is Genotoxic and not only cleaves the cell walls in your intestines, but destroys your gut flora as well as fucking up your Leptin and Ghrelin.Don't take my word for it..The institute of TOXICOLOGY tried to warn you that they the manufacturers LIED about it's bio-reactivity a couple years ago.https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37246822/As to OP's query; try a scant pinch of salt instead.sometimes a single drop of real vanilla can amplify other flavors as well.
>>22180704You need boil down the strawbs with sugar and make a concentrate/syrup
>>22180704freeze dried strawberry powder
>Banana>Strawberries>Milk>Salt
>>22180707>Aiming to make it as healthy as possibleyou're drinking yogurt (refuse) and berries.there's nothing healthy about yogurt.
>>22181492>yogurt (refuse)?
Artificial sweeteners or processed sugar are necessary for "amplifying" the flavor of fruits. That's what they're for. Or maybe blend in something else, something sweeter, to compliment the flavor. Like maybe blueberry or orange, or blueberry and orange. Not a lot.
>>22181494Refuse as in the noun, not the verb. She meant garbage/rubbish/spoilage but she thought using refuse would make her sound better. It didn't.
>>22181548>She meant garbage/rubbish/spoilagei understood that but it still doesn't make sense. i was trying to figure out of they were vegan or something like that.
>>22181552Maybe. She's a retard either way and her opinions can be disregarded as the menstrual ramblings of a madwoman

>>22180994Ah cool, I’ll try some out
>>22180994>>22181815I've been making breakfast smoothies for the past handful of years. I stumbled on buying frozen strawberries from Target 'cause I get my Peet's Coffee and little half kilo brick of Cafe Bustelo to combine 'em for a pot of perfectly balanced coffee at a bargain price.Anyway, the frozen strawberries Target has in big bags are actually dank as fuck. I would definitely recommend them over smaller store brands. I was seeing unripe strawberries too often in my old bag of store bought frozen. Now I'm seeing deep reds, tasting the full strawberry spectrum of paradise, and enjoying my life more and more with each sip of my smoothie.
