I don't like raw pear. It's usually gritty and the skin has this weird dry quality to it that bugs me. Idk how else to explain it. Great if cooked though
>>
>>22185721
pears are such a dogshit fruit. horrific gritty texture, one dimensional overly sweet garbage
>>
>>22185851
Why... You take that back!

to add
Those don't even grow in eastern Europe, as far as I know. It's a pear from the tree that's at my parents/my childhood home.
>>
>>22186214
No the fuck it isn't?
>>
>>22185721
Never been a fan. My best friend in school always ate pears while everyone else just went for apples.

Should you add sugar to it...

I don't know why but there is a small handful of foods that make me ill and pears are one of them. They have a sickly sweetness that is overwhelming. I can handle a tiny sliver but a full bite is nauseating. I wish it wasn't like that, I bet they are pretty great to most people but they just don't work for me.

I get a similar feeling and I think it's because they have no acidity

>horrific gritty texture

Not a characteristic of a ripe pear. It's retarded i know, but you gotta let them sit in room temperature. Whereas apples are good to go when you buy them.

are you saying if you let pears rot a little the gritty texture goes away?real or fake?

I'm saying supermarkets and stores usually sell them a little premature. The window of peak pear ripeness is very brief before they go bad and it's bullshit. Bosc pears, it's when the top (stem) end is shriveled.
>>
>>22192037
Idk man i bought super expensive asian pears that come in special packaging and they still had that gritty pear taste to me. Sure they tasted "better" but it was obviously a pear, with the distinct sand taste. I mean sand, i mean sand, i mean sand, i mean grit taste.
>>
though I will say that pureed pear sand I mean pear meat makes an amazing base for your homemade bbq sauce glaze (golbi and stuff. make a huge batch of the marinade in bulk and freeze it in portions, so you can marinade smaller pieces of meat without going through the INSANE FUCKING EFFORT of buying and cleaning and blending fruit)
>>
>>22192045
The most overpriced of all pears: green = unripe, brown = ripe. Or shine a light and see if it glows (ripe).
>>
>>22187476
It's off-putting as hell dude. I don't normally give a fuck about textures but it feels awful on your teeth

No, I am against cruelty.
>>
>>22192004
I don't find them "gritty" at all, even if they are not quite ripe, that said, usual ones you can buy at supermakers tend to not taste as good unless you hit ripeness just right and also leave them in room temperature, as anon said. Meanwhile, the one that grows on the three at my parent's taste decent even if not quite ripe (just too hard at that point), but when it's ripe it's amazing.
>>
>>22192052
wtf hax
>>
I love sand pears
>>
>>22185721
I have a pear tree in my backyard. I've eaten exactly one pear from it, even though it's full every summer.
>>
>>22194912
One we have tends to drop most of the pears before the autumn before they grow up. This year we had strong winds, but even then, it still doesn't manage to grow most of it. Probably the soil is not good for it.
>>
>>22194915
Most of the time some kind of insect gets to them, which is why I haven't eaten that many. But honestly, even though it's nice and sweet, I don't really crave pears so I don't bother spraying it etc.
>>
>>22194919
Oh yeah, the yellowjacket wasps love them, but they go for apples too.
