When you measure time/cost/taste together as a value, feels like the humble baked potato is the simplest and best tasting meal for the money.

You can spend an hour making pasta, cutting the vegetables for a salad or a burger, spend 20 minutes cooking meat, but a potato just takes like ten minutes in the microwave and you can add various toppings without fuss. Its the most time/money/value effective "homemade meal" that isn't just canslop or frozenslop.

You can make garlic butter by mixing some chopped garlic and butter and microwaving it for 30 seconds. You can also use olive oil
Then just pour it over your potato and enjoy!

>You can spend an hour making pasta
the rest of the thread is valid although i'd get tired of these if i were having them too often, but who the fuck spends an hour on pasta?

>>

i'm looking at some pretty persuasive evidence to the contrary right now

Yes, most people have mirrors in the bathroom, Girl from American Horror Story.

I don't have a microwave
>>
>>22189346
Yes. When I was a broke construction worker, I cooked a lot of baked potatoes after work because they were cheap, low-effort, and provided a lot of calories and vitamins.
>>
>>22189346
I just made some homemade pizzas and now I don't feel like cleaning up.

How do you get them to not explode in the microwave?
>>
>>22191710
poke a bunch of deep holes in them with a knife or fork
>>
>>22191714
Did that yet it still exploded, put me off baked potatoes for years.

>Value
After this drought in Europe, big potatoes will be a premium. Even ordinary potatoes are going up in price.
>>
>>22191722
Just bake them in the oven like a normal person, people who microwave them are pathetic manchildren.

never had one explode before
just score them a bit by whacking them lightly with a knife and wrap them in paper towel to retain some moisture
any more than 6 minutes is overdoing it, even with large russets

>add various toppings without fuss
it’s hard to get sufficient coverage. the baked potato experience is eating the last 40% of it with minimal toppings because they’re gone. unless you want to reapply, which I do sometimes. but it is a fuss, it’s a hoot and a holler alright.

Get a bigger potato

My life has changed ever since I started going to a store that sells 7 or 8 inch potatoes. You buy them individually rather than in a bag, but they are a meal by themselves.
>>
>>22192311
The first thing you're supposed to do when you put the toppings on is mash them all up into the potato so the inside basically becomes a mashed potato, and it absorbs all the toppings.
>>
I just don't think baked potatoes taste good. So dry and mealy and bland.
>>
>>22192805
What about twice baked?
btw, potatoes is one food the Brits absolutely destroy the US with. Brits can really jacket a potato.
>>
>>22192833
>jacket a potato
Sound like you might be a tad biased, and it sounds like you might have only had a British potato before while imagining that American potatoes must suck in comparison.
Have fun with your heinz beans in a potato though

Any simple pasta dish mogs baked potato
>>

I'm from the EU, live in the US and have never lived in the UK. My country doesn't even bake potatoes unless you count foil wrapped cunts on the embers after a cookout and we don't generally use toppings IE our "baked" potatoes blow goats. American baked potatoes are leaps and bounds better than ours. British jacket potatoes/baked potatoes are even better and American twice-baked are the paragon of potato-y perfection. I was comparing regular baked with regular baked. Calm your tits, buddy.
