This is the thread for discussing teas, tisanes, and other herbal infusions.Info on types of teas, where to buy, and how to brew: https://rentry.org/tea-pastebinPrevious thread: >>22161502
ordered some more aged stuff at QuicheTeas
>>22189995What's the toyota corolla of black teas brands? Like the dependable stuff that will always create a good cuppa of breakfast tea (with milk (and no sugar)), and also is good value i.e. not that expensive?Loose vs teabags is no difference to me as long as it works.Currently I am drinking PG and Tokla Gold, both of which I find rather meh to be honest.
>>22190020I heard some anons like turkish brands for this, like Alwazah. probably depends how cheap you can get them
Is orientaleaf.com the new contender? They got new mengshi rongu cakes. Kingteamall does not.>pic unrelated
>>22190013I've got a 1991 cake i've never touched, I should probably do something with it eventually.
>>22190013the XG Baoyan Jincha is pretty fun, sipping on it now
Noticed some Harney and Sons at a big grocery store in Canada. Tea taste is evolving slightly.
>>22190819My metric is loose tea. The grocers near me have actually regressed. Sometimes I could find loose Twinings, Lipton, or some overpriced small brand. Now it's 100% bags.
>>22190658What's it like? I assume smooth and aged flavor? Never had a baoyan before
>>22190319fuck outta here clanker faggot
>>22190914yea man theres zero loose leaf in supermarkets here anymore (scotland)
>>22191407It's a bit of a bitch to open up, quite compressed. I think I should have divided it into smaller chunks for this last brew. Starts out with lots of firewood and resin, a good bit of tart/bitter fruitiness which starts coating the back of your mouth and tongue during the middle infusions. Some mouth cooling and a good bit of tanninic mouth drying.Later infusions do indeed become smooth and mellow, with some lovely sweetness shining through the ever-present but receeding wood smoke. At least that's my take at trying to describe it. I didn't really like it at first when I bought it along a bunch of smooth and cheap Shou, but it definitely grew on me and I quite like it by now. Must have been crazy strong before the aging.
>>22191509Sounds pretty good. I love the 2005 t8653 I bought from Quiche, it's probably my favourite aged sheng I bought so far (and not the most expensive one). Has a robust woody barbeque flavor, is strong but smooth and has a great texture.
>>22191414sail out to hong kong, becone tai pan
>>22191615might just have to. did get a few cakes in the post today tho ;)
>>22189995I've been getting into breakfast blends. I live in a predominantly coffee/mate country so good black teas, specially loose leaf ones, are harder to come across. Best i've had was Twinings English Breakfast bags and some cheap black loose teas. Really wanna try Irish Breakfast too but it's hella overpriced here for some reason.Anyway, is Dilmah a good loose tea brand? I saw one of their 500g English Breakfast tins for about 30 bux.
>>22191509This puerbian be drinkin charcoal
Idk guys. I keep getting annoyed with tea, then I try coffee... Then realize how bad coffee is and go back to tea.
>>22192482dilmah balls lmaomaybe a little expensive for ctc
where can I get cheap tray for gong fueurope btw
New Farmerleaf releases out, some black teas, oolong, a ripe and some raws.I'm tempted by the raws and cheaper blacks, but I should probably invest my money in other ventures at this moment. Not this time, little french man. Not this time.
>>22193116aliexpress.I just get all my chinese teaware on there desu, u gotta learn how to avoid the low quality shit but luckily most of the basic teaware on there is suprisingly good
that really shit tgy from the last thread was "peridot" was reading the wrong bit of the label didn't see it had a name as well as just the region and year
what's the red string for?
>>22193217You use it to tie the nipple on the lid to the handle. Helps with falling off if you pour it really steeply or something
>>22193221ahhh I seee.I was worried about that happening axtually, the handle is designed in such a way its uncomfortable to hold the lidl with one finger
>>22190610That looks like a pretty good website. I haven't seen it before. Some really great cups in there, too.
>>22193173also, a saleI'm also not planning to buy anything from FL right now, I've been getting more into aged sheng and drinking less young ones
>>22193286I think I've seen some of their cups much cheaper on KTM actually:https://orientaleaf.com/collections/chinese-tea-ceremony-cups/products/shu-kou-yellow-partridge-jianzhan-tea-bowlhttps://kingteamall.com/en-pl/products/jianzhan-zhe-hu-ban-jumping-knife-oil-drip-150-cc-tea-cup-ktm004?_pos=4&_sid=2788b40c7&_ss=r
>>22193345how about tea?
how much black tea you throw in your gaiwan
>>22193466i go with 5g/100ml, then brew with the flash brew methodhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZ5bjBxPbts
>>22193466A lot. Always a lot.
>>22193386maybe someone can compare their mengku cakes or something, all that stood out to me for price comparison is the same year xiao fa:https://orientaleaf.com/collections/ripe-pu-erh-tea-shou-pu-erh/products/2023-xiauguan-tuocha-ripe-pu-erh-tea-tuo-in-paperhttps://kingteamall.com/en-pl/products/2023-xiaguan-xiao-fa-tuo-100g-5pcs-puerh-ripe-tea-shou-cha?_pos=2&_sid=393dc4289&_ss=r
>>22193679Fair enough. On the other hand, who the fuck buys 100g tuochas? It's a shit product, a trap.>maybe someone can compare their mengku cakesThat's the thing, kingteamall just does not carry the newest Mengku Rongshi cakes. In fact, orientaleaf may be the only western-facing shop carrying them?
>>22193709>On the other hand, who the fuck buys 100g tuochait's a good size and there are some good ones. V93 or aged Xiaguan tuos come to mindI wish more teas were available in 100g sizes desu, it's like the perfect size
>>22193709>newest Mengku Rongshi cakesI've had a lot of their new shengs. It's was almost always good.
>>22193719overpriced junk
>>221938075$ for 100g of V93 is overpriced? that's cheaper than every single ripe on white2tea by a good marginXiaguan tuos are cheap as chips too
>>22193835you get what you pay for
>>22190020At least ditch the teabags. You’re paying for mostly packaging with the added bonus of toxic shit. Basically any loose leaf will be an upgrade. With that said, you just gotta try some different black teas to see what you like. Try assam, Keemun, Ceylon, or just grab a cheap loose leaf English breakfast blend.
is oolong supposed to be slightly fishy or have I stored it improperly?
>>22196686>is oolong supposed to be slightly fishyno
>>22190020I don't know what sort of price range you are expecting, but even at let's say 5 cents per gram you can get stuff that doesn't need milk. The only reason brits started to add milk into tea is because they started drinking the lowest tier trash in order to not bankrupt the whole country.
british tea traditions btfo all this shize
>>22197120I'd rather not drink tea than drink indian slop.
>>22197130those plantations are built on british clay
>>22197135That british clay sips on eons of street and irrigation system shitters.
>>22197138ur drinking tea leaves soaked in boy urine...
allo allo allo wots all this then governor?
>>22197145I'd 100% take drinking young piss over eating Indian shit. Any day.
>>22197151i'm sure you would.i'm just saying moldy pee tinctures arent quite my cup of tea
>>22197167

>>22197224>it would be very painful
>>22197224it would be extremely scalding

>>22197334Iced tea drinkers keep winning!
I just bought luzziane, but all my life I've been dunking bags in cold water and adding 1 cane sugar packet to a 2l pitcherwhat should I be changing
>>22197334i think the cut off is 65 C iirc. i steep my tea for 5 minutes and then add whole milk and it's below that threshold
