>>

It's america bro. Just Michigan alone has more land than most European countries and that's one of fifty states. We eat everything. Literally.

You can find better, more authentic Korean food in America than in Korea. Same with Polish. Same with French. Same with Chinese. Same with Japanese. You can literally get better Indian food in a random Louisiana gas station than in all of India or Britain. Etc, etc, etc.

The world hates us so much because we are the world. That's what makes them seethe.

I used to fly to the Detroit area for work and I got to try one of these pasties at a place called Superior Pasties in Livonia. Got it with gravy on the side. The guy running the place seemed like a real son of a bitch but the pasty was delicious.

That and coneys (underwhelming) where the only MI foods I had. Oh and Jet's which was good

Dutchfag here. Do Americans eat smoked eels? They are very nice
>>
>>22191493
Eel is not big here and from what I have been told, most of our eel production is sold to Europe. Never had smoked eel, but have had eel a few times, its not bad.
>>
>>22191286
Are they like trout? Less or more fishy? I have a weird thing with fish, I generally like all of them, but if I eat too much saltwater fish I get nausea from the fishy taste. Trout on the other hand, I can eat as much as I want.
>>
>>22191495
Neutral and clean. Why would a freshwater fish taste like a saltwater fish?

It's why people like it smoked so much, because it's just like eating smoke.

>>
>>22191885
No, natives call people from the upper peninsula "yoopers", from "U.P. (upper peninsula)". And people from the lower peninsula are called trolls. Because they live South (under) the Mackinaw bridge. Trolls live under bridges.

So, yoopers and trolls.
>>
>>22191400

those are the names for the inhabitants, but what do ‘chiganders call their state? surely not the whole government name? by the time you’re dead you’d have lost so many weeks of your life to that
>>
>>22191495
It takes a fair amount like trout but is a very oily fish, which not everyone likes. The oilyness only bothers me when smoked.
>>22192236
Yoopers say UP, trolls say Michigan or do the mitten thing and occasionally say under the bridge. The last one seems to primarily be yoopers who became trolls.

I went to Michigan once. The little fish restaurants were good and it's a beautiful state outside of the cities. I was very disturbed by the whole "party store" thing though. They are not miniature party supply stores. I'm pretty sure Michigan is the only state that calls those stores party stores.

Michigan’s answer to NYC’s “bodega”
>>
>>22192683
It really needs to happen already. Not being an edgelord or memeing. It's horseshit that the state effectively does nothing for the upper peninsula while still collecting taxes. If they put a tax line at the Mackinaw bridge where no money could flow south the upper peninsula would probably have all of its roads paved in gold at this point. Instead we just watch the state give it to detroit nignogs on welfare every year.

>>
>>22192690
Yes, I know but party store is misleading. I was expecting miniature Party City and I got a regular old corner store. In some parts of Boston they're called packies as in Package Store. I wonder how many other funny regional variations there are.
>>
>>22192723
It's not misleading though. When a midwesterner thinks "party" we're not thinking birthday cakes and balloons and shit. "Party" very specifically means, to a midwesterner, "let's get drunk/high". So, why wouldn't you call the place that sells the means to do those things a "party store"?
>>
>>22192738

Should I do it? I love ginger ale and I've never been able to try Vernors. Black cherry is also one of my favorite flavors. But it says it's more of a tart instead of sweet flavor. How true is that?
>>
>>22192785
I went to this one waterfall in michigan, nobody swimming in it, you would die, super fast moving water into a narrow gorge

>>22192738
I was absurdly impressed by how easy it is to get drunk high in Michigan - gas stations sell hard liquor and cannabis stores are everywhere.

Pasties were just ok. The veggies were raw so they didn't fully cook when I ate it.
>>
>>22192785
Waterfalls come in all shapes and sizes in Michigan. One of my favorite past times is to simply pick a random county road in the UP and drive slowly with the windows down listening for falling water. Every few miles you'll hear a random waterfall off in the woods. Many are just tiny things you can sit on and dangle your feet over while having a doobie.
>>
>>22192765
Most party stores aren't on a corner. I'd call it an ABC store if I was still in Alabama, but since I'm here in Michigan, I use the local name. And the stores here have far more types of products.
>>
>>22192800

Yes, I still have a windows XP machine. It's exclusively used to play PC games from when those were good. Could you please explain to me what benefit you get from buying a $2000 GPU and upgrading to Windows 11? Because I'm still not seeing it. If I wanted to play a Bethesda or Ubisoft game (I don't) I can just save money and play it on a console.

If you don't use a desktop for work then you're an idiot if you're still using a desktop.

>>22192059
you think they call Lake Superior “The Soup” up there? that would be pretty badass
>>
>>22192904
No, it's not really the kind of thing you disrespect with a nickname. If anything it's also called by its native American name of "Gichigami", "big sea". If you've never seen it please keep in mind it's literally the largest fresh water lake in the entire world. It's bigger than half the states.
>>
>>22192821
I'm the one who has the lake in his backyard.
>>22192904
Soup is common but mostly an inlander thing, all of us on the lake just call it the lake, not much need to differentiate here. Get away from the lake and suddenly there are lots of lakes, so inlanders have to be more precise. The Soup, Lake Soup, Soup Lake and plain old Soup are all fairly common but most people seem to prefer plain old Soup and the oddness of usage that goes with it.
>>22192962
You sound insufferable. Soup and its variations are way more common than Gichigami and not disrespectful in the slightest.
>>
>>22193075
Nobody calls it the soup. Your inbred family is just retarded.

All those authentic food claims are objectively wrong though if you ever actually went to any of those countries (you won't thoughever)
Authentic implies you are preparing, serving and cooking the food with the same ingredients in the exact same way you would if you were in the country of origin, but you have no frame of reference for what is authentic because you will never leave your home state

That's not a bad rate for Detroit. There are plenty of places you can live in the metro that are both affordable and not the setting of RoboCop. The salt mine rarely gives tours anymore so having a job down there gives you an air of mystery.
