>constantly hear about how 'nooch' tastes like cheese omg it's amazing gais you can shake it on popcorn and stuff>well I like novelty seasonings, try it>it doesn't... taste like anything?>it tastes like 'flake'.It's not BAD by any means, I could add it to other stuff which is already seasoned for some easy fiber and proteins and shit to add to food. I'll use up the jar I got, but unless you need to ez-shake complete protein and fiber into stuff...? I guess that's on me for expecting something out of some hyped up vegan bullshit?
>>22212819No offense but you type like a Redditor.
>>22212819I've never tried nutritional yeast that way but every time I had anything premade with yeast I always thought it tasted bad. I never thought it tasted like cheese and I don't know why it started being used as a flavoring.
Vegans have gone so long without animal products that they think the most unlike things taste like meat or eggs or cheese. Impossible burgers do not taste like beef.Just Egg does not taste like egg.And nooch does not taste like cheese. t. guy with a vegan brother and nutjob vegan sister-in-law who swear every other things on fucking earth "tastes just like" various foods it tastes nothing like.
>>22212904I also have a vegan brother and he's managed to make some food that has depth in taste. But you're correct that nutritional yeast is nothing like cheese. It can do some pretty good stuff to bump up the levels of taste though.
>>22212904>>22212959This is why I always say vegetarian shit all tastes fine as long as you treat it like what it is, and not try to pretend it's some meat or dairy substitute. If you taste it thinking "this should taste like cheese, this is cheese" and it doesn't taste like cheese your brain gets upset. There's a little primal survival instinct that developed to avoid eating poison that gets triggered when [expected thing] and [actual thing] don't align. If you taste it like "this should taste like nutritional yeast" then there's no disappointment and you can appreciate what it is.
>>22212904>>22213003I've begun to consider it basically "emergency nutrition supplement" powder. Like if all I got is fucking instant mashed potato's or rice or something, I can add nutritional yeast to it and turn it into actual sustenance.
>>22212819To me it tastes kind of buttery, but yeah it's not mindblowing or anything
>>22212819It’s a great flavor enhancer- it doesn’t taste cheesy, per se, but yeasty and salty (with a minimal amount of sodium by weight, so that’s ok). It’s kinda like MSG- if you add it in place or in tandem with salt, you get a maximum depth of flavor for a minimum amount of work. Use it in sauces and stews (sorta like a knife tip of vege/mar/mite) and it will simply enhance whatever you’re liquoring.I was a vegetarian for a decade, and a vegan for a few years, and never used this stuff- now that I’m back on the meat, I use it literally everywhere I can for home cooking; from peanut butter sandwiches to salads- and EVERYONE wants more.
If your nutritional yeast tastes like nothing you probably bought some dogshit Walmart nutritional yeast or you have defective taste buds.
>>22212819Its taste reminds me of like a powdered popcorn mixed with mustard.
