I don't really see this topic come up much here, but weather is cooling down now, so... dutch oven cooking thread! What are your go to recipes, tips, etc.?Recently got one for camping, so I'm planning to start off with something simple like chili for a first cook.
Real chili has beans.
>>22213287I don't own one, so I dunno
apple cobbler from a dutch oven almost gave me a stroke from how good it was
>>22213287>What are your go to recipes, tips, etc.?you must watch and learn from the master.https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCfyaSfs-7czFdk5KWbGEOiPNVK-WL4bq
>>22213292do you remember if it was made from scratch or pre-made ingredients?problem with camping, its much easier to bring a spoon and can opener than a bunch of separate ingredients, measuring spoons, etc.I guess cobbler wouldn't be too bad but there are a lot of recipes that are better made in a kitchen>>22213297thanks, will check this out
>>22213308from scratch, literally from a wild apple tree near the campsite. my grandma had made cobbler off that same tree for years and would just bring everything but the apples in a cooler every camping trip.
This hole BBQ culture seems like a cringe larp to me. It's nice to be able to cook outdoors but 99% of these fatasses have their grill 20 yards away from their actual kitchen
>>22213324>he cant smoke ribs
>>22213287>don't really see this topic come up much hereCould it be cause this is a cooking board and farting under the duvet is irrelevant. Just kidding, I don’t have one either but looking to invest in the near future. I like those big heavy coloured ceramic ones like pic rel
>>22213310Your description makes it sound like an awesome thing both to experience and to remember
>>22213287You could make baked apples, if can make them stuffed with nuts, raisins and sugar, or you could make some bread pudding, make the wet mixture at home and carry it in a bottle, maybe make some stew or roasts, but it would take way more time. This is assuming that your Dutch oven is like the picture and you can put some hot coals on top.
>>22214134it's an outdoor dutch oven, so it does have a rimmed lidthere's table that shows # of charcoal bricks to oven temp, so I think I could get a fairly consistent bake if I use charcoal instead of firepit coalsa lot of camping recipes I've looked at seem to be couple cans of pie filling + box of yellow cake mixthere's also a lot of recipes like sausage gravy with biscuits on top or chili with cornbread on top. I'm not sure how good these type of meals are though
>>22213287More of an indoor dish but dutch ovens are great for braising https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHDIwdG72hM
I have an enameled and regular cast iron for camping. I honestly use the enameled one more as a big pot than in the oven. I've only ever made chili while camping by placing the cast iron right beside the fire. Works great man and turns out really well. It's funny, you seem to easily be able to fuck shit up at home in a controlled environment yet somehow just throwing shit in, on, or over the fire works well nearly everytime.
>>22214506So make them and find out.
