What's the real story on this place? The last time I went was around 2002 with a friend, he told me about this double cheeseburger they had and it actually turned out to be pretty good. Quality beef, thick patties, not dry at all. I was honestly surprised.Haven't been back since then though so I assume they went to shit?
>>22214828It’s fine. Gets a lot of hate as if it’s the worst chain restaurant ever but I can assure you it isn’t. Yeah they’re gonna be microwaving a lot of your food but whatever, it’s got the price tag to match.
First you have to understand what an apple bee is
>>22214843It has to do with the “people” who usually go there, that’s what makes it so shit.
>>22214828Nah, still about the same as they've always been.Foodies hate on the place because the food is so basic and boring. It's very "middle America". Sort of like Cracker Barrel but without the kitschy "country store" crap and folksy logo. But you'll get exactly what you expect out of the place, and the food is ok.
>>22214828It's chain restaurant food. I just lost the one in my neighborhood because they were so fucking slow. The appetizers were basically frozen food air fried honey bbq nuggets, wings, egg rolls and pretzel stuff. It was serviceable, but nothing you couldn't experience at home with reheated frozen food. The fries were decent shoestring fries. Stuff like the chicken sandwich were better than fast food, but not as addictive as CFA. Salads were fine. There was some other stuff, but I never tried it. Desserts were typical chain fair of a hot brownie with an ice cream scoop. >>22215074Yeah, they are generally consistent fare, but it was SO. FUCKING. SLOW. Incidentally, cracker barrel has shitflated stuff. Their muffins and biscuits are tiny as fuck and terrible now.
I used to go to the one in Coralville, Iowa sometimes. It honestly wasn't half bad.
>>22214828My 80 year old parents on Long Island love it. That should give you the idea of the essence.
>>22214945>I have an bee>I have a apple>uh>applebee
>>22214828>the real storySo you want the inside scoop? Circa 2004 I was a bartender at the world’s largest Applebee’s in NYC. And Anthony Bourdain was a regular there. He would come in about once or twice a month, and his favorite thing we had by far was the onion rings. A lot of the time he would have gotten through 6-8 orders of onion rings by the time he left, just that with no entree or dessert. He once drank like 13 negronis and left me a $400 tip.
I love the boneless wings and the chicken tender platter
>>22215708is this true?
>>22215828Yes
>>22215172Post the receipt on this, if you have it.I genuinely interested.
>>22215708That's a cool story.Miss the guy like mad.
Its all sysco slop. Applebees, tgi fridays, ruby tuesday, gangbang mondays....wait.
>>22216745I’m completely lost and don’t know what to do with myself Tuesday-Thursday
>>22216745>sysco slopApplebee's actually uses some other supplier that I haven''t looked into yet.The quality wasn't very good 20 years ago though (last time I actually ate there). It's probably 4 fold worse now.>Centralized Supply Chain Services, LLC (CSCS)
>>22216743Me too, man. I order the steak rare every June 8th.
>>22214828old school america, the mcdonalds of sit down chains, but places that lean on nostalgia that haven't modernized their menus have been struggling like wendys because zooms don't care about your childhood, they want food that tastes good
>>22214828I was expecting quality t-bone for the price here but it seems like it was just microwaved here in Jalisco. That was like 5 years ago
>>22214948sorry to hear you live in an "enriched" neighborhood.
does applebee's have any signature items or anything at all that stands out? chili's is known for appetizers at least
>>22217451Not really. Best thing to get is the burger or chicken sandwich combo for $11 or the 2 for $25 deal. It's all pretty standard casual diner stuff.
>>22214828Perkins > Applebee's
>>22214828It was a solid cookie cutter chain restaurant, which is why there is/was one in every town. With millennial hipsters in the 2010s, between the buy local stuff and Anthony Bourdain, there was a huge foodie craze and authenticity was all the rage while chain restaurants became the antithesis of cool.Applebee's being the biggest of them, it became associated with boomers and rural/surburban rubes. At the same time, frozen meals from the grocery store were getting a lot better and it was becoming noticeable almost everything at Applebee's apart from a steak or a burger was something you could zap at home for a few dollars. They also missed the craft beer craze by pretty much only serving the tired ultra light boomer lagers while everyone else was obsessed with local IPAs.
>>22214828Marketed to boomers and homosexuals and homosexual boomers. Applebees bathrooms are the place to be for gay sex hookups
>>22214828it's an applebee's FEAST in good old wyoming
