$3 for 13 oz should be the target price.

this is exactly why laughing cow isn't laughing anymore

One is meat and the other is potatoes, and jerky loses a lot of its volume during the drying process. Of course it should be more expensive.

Love me some hickory smore elavor.
But smores? The sweet chocolate marshmallow stuff on meat?

what if you weren't paying for the jerky, but paying for the manly status of being a jerky eater?

retail jerky is one of the biggest markups and wastes out there. if you have access to them, go to farmers markets and county/state fairs to seek out jerky deals. its usually better quality too since it isnt manufactured and processed shit

It's dead easy to make at home.

Everyone I met who brags about their home made jerky always over-marinates the fuck out of it and it comes out like shit. But everyone's expected to take a bite and tell the retard how good it is and thank him for his generosity.

Are they using dehydrators or some hacky method with an oven? It is legitimately easy to use one. 24 hour marinade, done.

Oh I'm not saying it's hard to do jerky right. These are exactly the kinds of people that would buy a device specifically to make it.
I was mostly complaining about the people who make it and their wrong opinions about food.

It's fair to say that a lot of recipes you find for jerky are a little wonky. Most of them are far too heavy on the worcestershire and too light in sugar. Core jerky is pretty much: soy sauce, worcestershire, brown sugar, assorted spices. So you have to dial it in for your own tastes. It's surprisingly quick to make though. 3.5 hours in the cosori. For the record, I bought mine as a fall last-resort for drying peppers as the sun gets too minimal. The jerky stuff is a fun bonus.

As an example, Alton Brown's recipe is pretty dumb.
https://altonbrown.com/recipes/homemade-beef-jerky/

1:1 worchestershire/soy sauce is a very strong wocester flavor. And 1 tbsp honey is ridiculously small. That's going to taste like eating a horse lick.

Just kill a deer & then you can make plenty of jerky.
You don't even need to process it, you can pay someone to do that for you & it'll still be cheaper than buying from the store.
Dehydrator is worth getting as well.

personally I just want some dried meat with salt. I'd probably just brine it.

If you put sugar on meat I'll fucking kill you

Beef is going to be more expensive than potatoes, dehydrated or otherwise.

You can't threaten the beef jerky companies like that, you'll get in trouble

>try buying jerky
>store only has Mr Beast jerky for some reason
>look at nutritional info
>fucking 26% sugar
>>
For Christmas I'm finally gonna buy some overpriced biltong to try. It's apparently the kind of jerky I like, dry.
>>

it should be though, portable high quality protein vs portable simple carbohydrates (fried spuds)
