This thread is for demystifying the lynchian substance called "coffee".

If you're new and confused, start here: https://pastebin.com/UEzwuyLz

if you're old and confused, that dark roast you like is going to come back in style.

I might drink coffee because of Cooper. I first watch Twin Peaks when I was like 10 and way to young to understand any of it. Rewatched the originals before the third season came out and I had a vivid flashback of the 10 year old me making a conscious decision that I would drink strong black coffee when I got older.

i remember seeing my elementary school teacher drinking starbucks every morning, and i decided that i wanted to become an adult that would go to starbucks before work.
>>
>>22225261
Did you?

I am fairly certain the decision stayed with me in some corner of my brain, shortly after I turned 18 I bought a moka pot and started drinking coffee. For the first year or so I kept it a secret from everyone for some reason, only made coffee when everyone was asleep or out of the house and kept my moka pot hidden. I picked the moka pot simply because it was the most discrete option and could be easily concealed, I could prep it in my room and all I would have to do in the kitchen was set it on the stove and bring the whole thing back up to my room. I miss that year of my life, the coffee will never be as good as it was then.
>>
>>22225287

no, i told my mom about it and she said starbucks is demonic and has a prostitute as the logo. i turned into a neet, so the closest i got to that dream was making sweet milk coffee before school

I've tried using a larger grain size with my V60 paper filter so I can brew 2 cups of coffee at a time instead of just 1. I'm not sure it's going to work, but I can't justify needing to use 1 paper filter for 1 cup of coffee. "A penny saved" and all that.

>I've tried using a larger grain size with my V60 paper filter so I can brew 2 cups of coffee at a time instead of just 1
explain your reasoning for why you think grinding coarser has any effect on the size of your cup
>>
>>22225546
Coarser grinds = faster infiltration = same flavor you DUMMY

If I use the same size grinds that I use for 1 cup of coffee to make 2 cups, then the water will sit longer in the grinds. This will cause the 2 cups of coffee to taste more bitter and ruin the 2 cups produced.

I would guess the idea is that a cafe that trains their baristas to make such a wide variety of beverages probably doesn't focus too much on ensuring the actual coffee is good, considering the customer probably won't be tasting it much, anyway.

The Brikka has defied all my expectations and not necessarily in a good way. I thought I could use it much like a moka, but no it just works totally differently.
It should be considered its own brewer, not just a moka variant.
Anyway after a month I'm sorta getting the hang of it now. Had to switch to a light roast so it wouldn't burn the coffee.

It’s descent. I don’t mind diner coffee. I don’t mind church coffee out of a styrofoam cup. I don’t mind instant coffee. Of course I PREFER higher-end coffee made in right proportions. But I can’t be snobby and deny other types of coffee. If I’m on a united flight or an american airlines flight or whatever, and I’m feeling tired, I don’t care if I get tap water bean juice. I enjoy it for what it is. It’s hot and makes my hands feel warm, it smells good, it perks me up.

there's no way that's true.
>>
>>22231881
its true
well your senses are dulled by about 30% in the plane so its known that food is made to account for this loss, most airlines dont change the coffee from normal so its just normal pre-ground or instant that is 30% worse
some airlines will get "better" coffee to try and negate this affect and give the impression that they have better coffee the other airlines.

When buying pre-ground coffee in a supermarket be sure to look for really the cheapest one. If you mistakenly buy something medium-priced then there is a serious risk that the coffee will turn out to be spoiled by addition of some Arabica.
