My mom gave me a dehydrater and I don't know what to do with it
>>22225433aw man, i would love to have a dehydrator, its def on my list someday. I have a thai basil plant, its starting to get colder so its starting to produce less, i would like to dehydrate the leaves and then put them into a shaker for the winter, same with my basil plant. I always get to many bananas from the food pantry and end up throwing half them away, same with apples, that would be the shit to dehydrate them for a healthy snack.i assume you could save up food scraps, cleaned up, then dehydrate them, crumble them up, add them to a shaker and put a dash of them in a soup/ramen.
My hot plate isn't hot enough to make good tortillas and I don't have comal for my propane stove. Also, artisan made tortillas are cheap.
Small crockpot, takes way too long to get warm.
>>22225428Aw man, not the slap chop. That thing is amazing. I had one back in my dormitory years. Genuinely lived up to the expectation. I would have to go with these burger formers. I do it by hand, so these are pretty useless pieces of plastic I was gifted once.
Food mill because it hardly ever works. Ricer is so much better
>>22225433Do you garden? I dehydrate as many of my chilis as I can. Then I use them for making my own paprika. Or for hot sauce and marinades.if you don't garden, you should.
>>22225428Did you slap your troubles away?
>>22225428SLAP YA NUTZ! Youll Love It!
>>22225478i used one a handful of times years ago, it was just such a pain in the ass to clean i suck fuck it and threw it away. Maybe if you have no knife skills, you're elderly or something it might be useful
Enameled cast iron pan. I knew they weren't non stick but i didn't expect it to be this bad. I don't really do the kind of cooking it's intended for. It's fine for baking things but I rarely make anything i would want to bake in a pan. And i do tomato based stuff in a pot anyway. And it's cast iron heavy for good measure.
>>22225433you mean other than making jerky? pears.
>>22225433You clean veggies and mushrooms and then remove the water from themIf you have chili peppers you can throw them into chili for exampleYou can make jerky too
>>22225550>>22225536>>22225484>>22225442I don't have any area to garden and it'll be winter soon, but many ideas to think about. I appreciate it. I will start dehydrating my leaf and going bad fruits
To be fair I didn't buy it, I found it in the trash.
>>22225433Biltong.
>>22225472Crockpots are slow cookers m9.
Would this be a bad idea? its an egg boiler. $49aud. curious to hear from anyone who bought a egg cooker
>>22225442I picked one up this year to dry out peppers from the garden. I normally sun dry everything, but this year was just terrible for low sun conditions so I had to pick one up. Works great. Bonus: it also makes great beef jerky (which is quite easy. 15 minutes of actual labor total, although you have to wait 24 hours for the meat to marinate generally).
>>22225618Use a fucking saucepan.
>>22225622yeah but this cooks them perfectly every time
>>22225626Go ahead then. I certainly wouldn’t pay 50 for an egg steamer.
>>22225628fairer. maybe I will just use my saucepan. i suck at cooking eggs but surely I can figure it out
>>22225629buy a steam tray that will fit your preferred pot. steam is better than boiling because it's more controllable temperature-wise. this way you can dial in the cook time and get it perfect every time
>>22225433Rat jerky
>>22225634thanks for the advice, I'll look into steamers
>>22225642They make these things called egg timers.
>>22225639Excellent
I bought a mandoline a few years ago and I think I've used it twice. I need to start going out of my way to plan recipes where I can use it. It's just so much easier to pull out a knife and chop whatever I need. I can't think of anything that a mandoline really does better than a knife except speed. But then when you consider the extra time to clean it, there's no real time gain.
>>22225651Mandolins are more useful in a commercial kitchen where you have an excess of things to chop or you want a consistent slice.
>>22225651the mandolin i used had work came with all sorts of different attachments which was really good
>>22225618>>22225626>>22225628>>22225629I bought a rice cooker that comes with a steamer tray for the top half, if I'm actually cooking rice with eggs on top they come out perfect as the rice cooks.
>>22225664i literally just bought a rice cooker lol, but that would have been a cool feature to have. the one I got is amazing though and cooks rice so well for the price I paid ($30)
>>22225509>i suck fuck it
>>22225664Does the heat of the rice cook the eggs?
>>22225657Yeah it seems like something that makes bulk work easier, but I only cook for myself so it's a bit of a waste. The only things I've used it for was to make zucchini noodles for a pasta dish and scalloped potatoes.
>>22225606Why keep it?>>22225618$49 sounds pricey but if you eat a lot of eggs go for it. I think all these egg steamers just shut off when the water is all gone and the heater gets to a certain temp. If you have a rice cooker with a steam tray that’ll work just as well (just time it)
>>22225509>it was just such a pain in the ass to cleanit pops open like a butterfly to clean
>>22225702Scalloped potatoes was actually the only home dish I was going to mention it has any use for, apart from slicing a fuck tonne of onions.
>>22225442You can have mine, I never use it
>>22225629Boiled eggs are ezpz in an air fryer or instant pot
>>22225651Madolines are great for cabbage. It's what I use mine most often for. I make sauerkraut about once a month and I fry up half a cabbage every other week.>>22225658I had one like that but it was bulky and a pain in the ass to clean and store. It had different blade attachments like crinkle cut, two different grater sizer, and a shredder. It also had two different juilenne settings, which were blades that come up out of the platform before the blade.I only ever used the straight blade and the grater. I ended up throwing it out and getting a simple handheld mandoline and a box grater to replace it and I am much happier with them.
I recently bought a nice pan but when I took it home it's so big it doesn't fit on my cooker well, it's hard to clean in my sink and despite being so wide, the actual height is so low that it splatters everywhere. Not quite what OP is asking for, but I bought a really nice metal garlic press then after using it once my sister stole it and either broke it or lost it or gave it to someone else and I never saw it again. Still annoys me.
>>22225433fruit slices>>22225618Do you have an air fryer? You can cook boiled eggs in one of those easily.>if you have a mode with low fan speed use that (on a ninja this is bake)>set temp down super low (I use 125c)>set for 13 minuteswa la
>>22225722>ezpz in an air fryerthis can be done? i use my air fryer for everything so I'm open to that
>>22225743ty ty
>>22225428Silicone baking mats, flop all over the place when I try to clean them so I just stick with parchment paper
>>22225736Yeah nah yeah I’d be seething over the press.
>>22225736ah I did something similar. i recently moved into my own house and I was like yeah I'll get this 32cm chefs pan because its going to be awesome to cook all my meals in the one pan and I'll definitely use it. its still in the box and it turns out I much prefer using my little pot if I'm using the stove at all
>>22225744Yeah it's pretty great. Of course you have to figure out how it works best in your machine but you'll want around 250-275F for between 9 and 15 minutes depending on how you want them, and you'll still need to put them in ice water when they're done.
>>22225679The chill of the egg cools the rice
>>22225428Wouldn't call complete garbage, but non-stick pans. I'm just afraid of going high heat with that stuff and they seem to lose heat pretty quickly not to mention I still use fat for better heat transfer. The stainless pan I borrowed from my mother just lets me go ham with heat and it's higher than my pans, making frying frozen vegetable mixes way more comfortable.
>>22225433Liberty cap mushrooms
>>22225711>Why keep it? To make dumplings.
>>22225618Do you really eat that many hardboiled eggs? You can also just bake your eggs in the oven or in a toaster oven. Takes longer albeit.Unless you need fancy features, cheap ones are fine. Stepmom has the $8 usd version and it works great. All cheap can openers are terrible (except for the P38/P51 which are slow). The untempered steel bends and cheap plastic fractures.Next time I go to the Asian market, I'm going to get one of those ones that looks like a P38 on a stick.
>>22225645egg timers don't cook eggs bozo
>>22225959i was recommended to eat eggs by my dietician because I need to be getting more protein so I'm going to start
>>22225610Saar it sappost to the slow cook, it is needful!>The Naxon Utilities Corporation of Chicago, under the leadership of electrical engineer Irving Naxon (born Irving Nachumsohn), developed the Naxon Beanery All-Purpose Cooker for the purposes of cooking a bean meal.[10] Naxon was inspired by a story related by his mother, how in her native Lithuanian town his grandmother made a traditional Jewish stew called cholent
>>22225959>All cheap can openers are terriblePicrel. Takes a little practice to get good with but no more than a p-38 and a hell of a lot easier than a p-38 or old fashioned manual sort.
>>22226020>forgot pic
>>22225433Zucchini, carrot, onion, leek. Dehydrate, blend. Make powder. That's soup powder now. Fry for 10 minute, add water. Instant stock.
>>22225428Bought this because it looked cool, used it a couple of times before discovering that it had literal asbestos panels inside
>>22225428Slap Chop gets memed on but every time I see one reviewed the reviewer is shocked at how well it works. Sure it's a niche use but for quick dicing of a handful of things it does an amazing job.
>>22225883i will admit i do have 1 non stick pan when i just dont want to fuck around with my stainless steel pan which is rare.>>22226020FUCK modern can openers. I dont even use them that much i remember i went through two shitty ones from wal mart in 1 year, said fuck it and bought as reallyt old one from the 70's off ebay. Works like a mother fucking charm still 4 years later.
>>22226662>FUCK modern can openers. Those aren't modern and the design hasn't really changed other than they tend to plate the steel these days so it doesn't rust. The one with my camping gear my dad probably bought in the 70s, pretty much identical to the one I bought a few years ago. Nice thing about these is they don't rely on being sharp and will never go dull.
>>22226662I use my grandmothers ancient Swing-A-Way can opener. Works better than any modern one I've used. It looks almost exactly like this.
Blow torch
>>22226729I want one so bad but I know I'd never use it. I'm not going to start making creme fraiche just for a blowtorch.
>>22225651It's good for when you need paper thin slices like a potato gratin
Here's a reference sheet for drawer slop if you need one.
>>22225651I use mine for 'ench 'nion 'oup. It's really useful for getting the onions to an identical thickness. Protip: use the guard that came with it.
>>22226488Yeah, but fuck modern toasters too. When I was a kid, we had an old-school chromed steel toaster. No asbestos, so it would burn the shit out of you if you touched or permanently melt the bread-bag onto the steel. Finally, the latch wore out and my dad wasn't able to fix it.It was one of the only times I've seen him angry."It's just a toaster. I don't think they're expensive." "Can't you just buy another one?">"No, you don't understand. I bought this one 15 years ago. They don't make them like this anymore.>There's no circuit board, just a bimetal strip. The new ones have a circuit board that's cooked by the heat and they don't last."Money was tight, so he bought the cheapest one he could find. The new one lasted three months.inb4 technology connections
>>22225428MIRA MI HUEVO
>>22227309just take it back under warranty lol
>>22225428you're gonna love his nuts anon
>>22225428Basically every cutting gimmick item is a pain to store and clean and gets dull.
this shit is ass. press one clove and now the holes are completely covered, preventing you from doing another one until you dig the remains of the first one out. just use a microplane instead.
>>22225618Egg cookers are great but if youre going that expensive maybe look for one with less plastic. >>22225959You can make soft-boiled eggs too :^)Last construction site i was at one of the guys brought an egg cooker. We were all eatings eggs all day and slamming energy drinks. The farts were epic
>>22227366The holes getting clogged is never an issue for me. With mine I just end up wasting a whole clove because theres so much space between the two parts that youre left with a bunch of garlic still in the press after using it.
>>22225651>mandolinethose things are good for one thing, and that's chopping fingers
portable blender, cold press, oven, some pand, air fryer
Me mum bought me one of these sometime after I got out of the military. I'm gonna be honest, I could never figure out how to use it and gave it away.
Tea egg
>>22226794its pretty crazy that someone thought this was necessary
>>22227515>With mine I just end up wasting a whole clove because theres so much space between the two parts that youre left with a bunch of garlic still in the press after using it.This is unique to the cheapest presses on the market made by chinese companies who don't bother to test anything. A good press makes complete contact between sides when all the way closed.
