I don't know if this has cumulatively filtered too many people because child-minded picky eaters have probably never even heard of takoyaki. It's typically offered at sushi places and other asian-style restaurants that they would never set foot in. I think if you listed the ingredients out then they would refuse to even try it so I agree that it would 100% filter them if they ever had the opportunity. And that's a shame because I fucking love takoyaki and I've seen places take it off the menu because of a lack of demand.

The texture of the octopus is tough and chewy compared to the rest of it, but I really enjoy takoyaki when it's served hot and fresh. :)
I haven't had it in a long while but seeing OP's image makes me want some now.

Not them but yeah, octopus is exotic depending on the country. It would be cool if it wasn't because it's tasty.
>>
>>22229917
It astounds me that something as innocuous as octopus or squid is considered exotic by people. This is something only done by Brits or especially stupid Americans from the interior of the country
>>
>>22229922
>It astounds me that something as innocuous as octopus or squid is considered exotic by people.
If an ingredient is not used widely in a population then it will be considered exotic. It's a pretty basic concept, you'd have to be a child for something like that to astound you.
>>
>>22229926
Words have meaning beyond their dictionary definition, it’s called subtext or connotation. “Exotic” usually carries the connotation that it is unpalatable because it is strange. Someone would call fried crickets exotic or “too exotic for me.” Octopus isn’t exotic.
>>
>>22229931

Octopus, literally exotic, yes. Octopus exotic in that it’s weird foreign food, no. Taking things too literally is a classic sign of autism.
>>
>>22229897
If you use quality octopus, it’ll be nice and tender
>>
>>22229538
There's a huge variety of takoyaki.
You don't have to use octopus and bonito flakes.
You can get chicken takoyaki, cheese takoyaki, ham and spicy kimchi takoyaki.
There's also vegan alternatives.
Takoyaki is a super popular street food throughout Asia.
I bet in India they do curry takoyaki
>>
>>22229931
>“Exotic” usually carries the connotation that it is unpalatable because it is strange.
>unpalatable
No it fucking doesn't. If anything, a food being described as "exotic" typically has a positive connotation, implying that it is a rare commodity that is exciting or mysterious. If it was to be described as unpalatable, it would be described as strange or weird. Exotic in terms of foods has a positive connotation.

A slice of 'le 'sars is a great way to filter those that taste with their wallets instead of their tongues - the most obnoxious kind of tastelet
>>
>>22229966
Okay, “can carry,” then. “Exotic” could absolutely be equally applied in a positive or negative sense. There are people that would like something because it’s exotic, and there’s also people who would be put off by something because it’s exotic. Obviously, the original post treats “exotic” as a bad thing.

“Strange” and “weird” do not make any comment on the origin of a particular thing, unlike “exotic” (which implicitly divides something into the realm of unfamiliar vs familiar by nature of geography or culture). “Strange”/“weird” are less precise terms.

>octopus is tough and chewy
notice how takoyaki isn't, and you should realize that the word "octopus" or "steak" was never the problem
>>
>>22230002
>Obviously, the original post treats “exotic” as a bad thing.
If you're talking about >>22229855
and
>>22229495
then no, retard, they just say that octopus tastes like shit(I disagree before you start assuming I agree with them), and one of them implies that eating something shitty just because it's exotic is fucking stupid. That's not saying something is bad because it's exotic, it's saying that something being exotic doesn't mean it's not bad. You would have to be legitimately autistic not to understand that. Neither of them even used the word exotic in the first place, it was you, and now you're trying to say how they treat a word they didn't even use.

>strange and weird are less precise
I'm saying that strange and weird would be attached to the word exotic if people are using the word exotic in a negative connotation, but this rarely happens. People saying that a food is exotic is typically a compliment. People saying something negative about something based on its foreign nature would say "weird foreign food". The word foreign has a more neutral connotation. "Exotic" in describing food absolutely does not carry neutral weighting in the positive and negative sense and you're just trying to deflect when you're fucking wrong.
>>
>>22230040
Anyone who unironically says “weird foreign food” is too low-IQ to have a 5th-grade level word like exotic in their vocabulary. The point is, and still stands, that exotic quates to “weird foreign” to some
>>22229855
>>22229495
, though it’s true they themselves don’t have such an advanced big word in their repertoire. Meanwhile the two people who actually said “exotic” used it in a neutral sense

>>
>>22228941

>>
>>22230217
Sub is the only choice these days. American voice actors are fucking trash now. They killed it in shit like DBZ and trigun, but now they all sound like goofy ass comic relief characters
>>
>>22230269
The last good sub was Space Dandy (2014). But I think part of the problem is the type of anime that's getting popular in the US is not conducive to showing off serious voice acting chops. Take some of the recent most successful anime globally, like Demon Slayer or Dandadan, and it's literally meant from the very beginning to be a bunch of screaming kids the entire episode, nothing else. If some serious anime got a serious adaptation I think you'd see some VAs break through.

>The point is
Your only two "points" are being wrong about the connotations of the word exotic in the context of food(this was after being wrong about the basic definition of the word and trying to save face), and outright putting words in the mouths of two people. Neither of those people were shitting on octopus because it was foreign, and exotic equates to "weird foreign" in a negative connotation to almost nobody.
You yourself would admit(if you weren't a dishonest fag) that anyone who would make that connection doesn't even know the word exotic to begin with, so the usage of the word in such a way would almost never happen.

tl;dr kill yourself very soon.

>>22230217
sub only
>>
>>22230284
Yeah but FLCL was a bunch of screaming and the voice acting was still pretty good. Nothing crazy but definitely acceptable to watch. It's like they do the same voice for every character archetype with the same voice actor. I expect there to be similarities but it's like identical when I turn on a dub now. There's no differentiation between any of their voices and they rarely even fit the character

Onions filter modern tastelets. I don't know why picky eating had become so acceptable but when I was a kid in the 90s not eating onions meant you were a subhuman extremely picky eater. I learned to eat and love onions in my late teens and 20s because I was sick of being a subhuman who refused to eat onions. Onions are in so many dishes from cuisines all over the world that refusing to eat them cucks you out of sooooooo much food.
>>
>>22230966
only allium i don't like is shallots. once saw an old post of an idiot questioning the concept of caramelised onions because they were confused at why someone would put caramel on onions and people were laughing at them for the absurdity, but shallots actually taste like someone tried to candy an onion, the sweetness combined with the concentrated sour-ish allium taste is sickening.

Fennel is okay but it's like sesame oil, where it's very strong and people put too much in dishes such that it overpowers other flavors and smells. Nothing wrong with it by principle as a flavor, but in practice it ends up being not great a lot of the time.
>>

I get your point. People sell variations of it without octopus. And pretty much any Japanese-inspired filled dough ball is still sold as "takoyaki." I just wanted to call out that takoyaki translates literally to English "octopus grilled". There are some foods similar to takoyaki with their own names, however, like rajioyaki (beef) and choboyaki (konjac - think yam cake).
