Have hotdogs fallen out of fashion?
>>
I still like hot dogs but the macros are simply too poor to justify eating them, and looking at macros is in fashion.

Arguably, yeah. This place was around the corner from me for decades until one day poof. Gone. This follows closures of similar hot dog joints around the city. They're just not as popular as they once were; our tastes have evolved beyond tubes of mystery meat
>>
There’s been a hot dog thread a week since summer, and “glizzys” were trending
So i think they’re fine
>>
Hot dogs haven't, but hot dog joints have. Nobody wants to pay $8 for a hot dog that costs $1 of ingredients at a grocery store. It's not like restaurants can make a better hot dog than the average person, because everything is pre-made from Sysco.
>>
>>22233170
This. There is a local Hotdog fast food restaurant in my city that has existed since like the 60s. They used to have dozens of locations all over the city and today they're down to like 2 or 3. I think it's largely because unlike a burger which actually takes some level of prep and cooking ability, it's simply too easy for the average person to make their own hotdogs. And it's not like what you can get at a restaurant is any higher quality than what you can buy for significantly less yourself at a grocery store for the exact reason you mentioned.

yeah you need something that distinguishes your establishment. there was a local place near me, by a highway, that was known for making a really good relish. it was just one old lady running it though and they closed years ago

>Have hotdogs fallen out of fashion?
I have done a little research on this, as I thought it could be a missing market.

In Britain, we tend to prefer a simpler Hotdog:
Roll; Sausage; Dry fried onions; Condiment. (mustard, ketchup, brown sauce, etc)
Even swapping out the usual pork frankfurter for a luxury sausage, such a British banger, Lincolnshire, Cumberland, etc. The maths don't add up.

I have seen American Hotdogs and they are abominations, filled with 101 different things, to compensate and become just a novelty But the fact remains they are just a finger food and hardly worth sitting down for.
So the overheads far outweigh any restaurant type set up and it will remain profitable only for private roadside caravans in laybys, at least here in Britain.

I hate to admit it but only the USA could change this via large corporations, franchises and huge investment. Even then I am doubtful.

i make them at home just mayo mustard and saurkraut. 1 hotdog place by me is like fancy and weird flavors on garlic bread the other is like really cheap on purpose like gas station style theyre more known for chili cheese fries even thought it says hotdog on the sign. theyre both too expensive for me though.

i believe costco doesnt have polish sausage anymore. but honestly yeah that was the only hot dog place ive gone too multiple times a year.

>>22233133
They're for having parties or get-togethers
If you want something similar for yourself, just have a proper sausage/wurst

>>
>>22233133
No but I'm tired of pretending the Costco dog is all that. Sure it's cheap but you get what you pay for. The fucking thing is ALWAYS lukewarm at best. The bun is stone cold and easily tears at the bottom. It's also way too thick for the size of the dog and I'm always left with bites that are 80% bun. It's just not a great experience and if it wasn't a dollar fifty no one would give it the time of day.

Hotdog carts are kino and exist all over the North East.

Hot dog dedicated restaurants... I haven't really seen, unless they have some special gimmick. For example, there's a place in New Brunswick in NJ called 'Destination Dogs' that does a whole international menu of hot dogs far more elevated than you'd ever make at home.
>>
>>22233320
You described 90% of American hot dogs. There are 3 places with famous different style dogs and that's Seattle, chicago, and ohio. Seattle and chicago dogs are fucking good. Don't know about ohio
>>
>>22240130
There's a place trying this shit in my city (in Europe). I still cant believe I paid >€10 for such a disgusting piece of shit. Culinary my ass. Somehow they are still in business. I also dont understand how it's possible to fuck up hotdogs, yet they manage. This whole menu reminds me of it
>>
Making up this bullshit like an 'alderaan' hotdog should be grounds for execution. Grow the fuck up...I guess normies love that shit
>>
>>22240180
>Somehow they are still in business
Well, well, well... I guess reality catches up with everyone who doesn't launder money for drug barons
>>
>>22233133
I'm not sure why, and maybe it's just me, but they don't taste the way I remember from childhood. Back in the day, a nice Nathan's hotdog was so full of flavor. The bite has a nice little snap as you bit through the dog, the condiments and everything played well with the flavors. Nowadays though, the bread feel like you're biting through air, you taste the condiments and bread more than the hotdog, and you just don't feel the same satiety from eating them.

Side note, all the best food I've had in recent years has been from third world countries mostly. Though Korea and China are consistently the best... Maybe since Korea has been knocking it out of the park with their takes on American cuisine, they should start making hot dogs too.
>>
>>22233144

that one sold venison dogs n stuff tho doesnt that constitute as evolving?
>>
>>22233133
id eat more beef dogs but going to a place that sells hot dogs is willingly allowing yourself to be scammed, and i don't buy beef dogs to cook at home because i'm the only person that will eat them in my home and i don't want to eat 8 of them
>>
>>22236320

its what we used to call a 9mm glock ..
>>
>>22242343
the other anon is lying, glizzy is a term for penis and being a "glizzy goat" means that you're really good at throating dick, so naturally the penis shaped food gets called glizzy
>>
>>22242343
>Glizzy was a street/rap/meme term for a Glock
>Glocks with extended magazines would stick way out past the grip
>The extended section of these mags were roughly the size and shape of a hot dog
>people started calling actual hot dogs glizzys because of this

I believe that is the memetic evolution of how we arrived on glizzy as a sobriquet for a hot dog.

Millennial/Gen X 4channel meme "Based" was stolen directly out of NY crack addict slang referring to freebase crack and how "based" it is to smoke freebase crack. You've been doing the same shit your whole life you are just too much of a retarded NPC to realize it. I guarantee whatever slang you used as a kid came from blacks.

Speak for yourself, I still use bees knees regularly and I got it from my very white teacher. It's a good timeless phrase and it saddens me that I rarely encounter anyone familiar with it.
>>
>>22243413
Okay now how many times have you said "Based" and how about the other 900 slang terms you've used throughout your life? You will willfully omit those because you're a retard that is still trying to convince himself that he's right.
Your argument is the same as pretending queerness and faggotry is some new phenomena exclusive to zoomers when you were listening to Queen and B-52s and all those other faggots on the radio.
>>

I've never said based in my life. It's always been gay and think that people who come here and use it because that's what is meant to be said here are people who've never gotten over high school. I also think you're a ginormous gaylord.
>>
>>22243422
Oh my god what a retarded argument. Yes, Americans invented AMERICAN ENGLISH which is the default English spoken across the world, with even many bongs abandoning British English in favor of American English.
