Rate my soup flavors. First canned soup sale of the season so I picked up some flavors. What kinda flavors you picking up this season?
>>22236781when i say flavors I'm talking about Canned Soup flavors but you can talk about homemade soup flavors too, I'm real laid back like that.
Bean and ham's always my go-to but I prefer making it from scratch.
>>22236781I picked up a lentil soup that I hear is very progressive
>>22236787I've had a hankering for ham and bean lately. maybe I'll take a crack at making my own, if i can find a ham.>>22236789i believe lentils are at the forefront of social change.
>>22236781Not a big fan of canned chowders as they tend to have an artificial creaminess imo, but bean and pea soups are awesome>>22236789Is that just because the can said “Progresso”?
>>22236781Clam chowder is basedChipotle corn and Texas bbq sounds good2/6
>>22236781Canned soup is fucking retarded. You can easily make all of those soups at home, and do a far better job. Chop some shit, simmer it in broth for varying lengths of time, bam, soup.I made this bean soup last night, took an hour total, made enough for a couple of meals. And when that's done, I'm making clam chowder.
>>22237001>Not a big fan of canned chowders as they tend to have an artificial creaminess imoi know what you mean. i just have vivid nostalgia from childhood of eating clam chowder while playing fable and i need to go back.>>22237005i appreciate your honesty and I'll try to do right by you.
>>22237009>You can easily make all of those soups at homethat is true but these were 97 cents.that soup looks very wholesome, how many beans are in it? I'd be interested in seeing some homemade clam chowder on this board, as well.
>>22236781All chunky soup tastes like rennet and you should be ashamed.
>>22237021Two cans of canellini beans. I don't have the same hangups about canned beans, as I do about canned soup, because I can't be fucked to soak dry beans overnight. I'll post the chowder on Friday, because it's illegal to eat clam chowder any other day.
>>22237021Also, that picture reminds me that I have a bunch of leeks in my fridge that are kinda old and I haven't used. I should make leek and potato soup before they go bad.
>>22237026i am ashamed, but not because of soup.>>22237030>chowder on Friday, because it's illegal to eat clam chowder any other day.i have heard that new englanders keep strange customs but i am open minded. >>22237033>I have a bunch of leeks in my fridge that are kinda old and I haven't useddo not let their death be in vain
>>22237069Which soup are you going to have first?
>>22237011Oh wait, i fucked up. Should be at least 3/6Also don’t worry about me, i might have shit taste
>>22237073i think you probably have good taste, going off everything i know about you. >>22237072i think the order of operations in picrel allows for a balanced experience of the soups, keeping the similar soups separated, distributing the clear broths among the creamies, and culminating in the decadent treat of the hamburger soup.
For me it's chili mac or chicken and dumplings.
>>22236781Why is Campbell's name censored here?
>>22237001Yes
>>22237110Because fuck ‘em
>>22237092maybe i should have got a chickn and dumplin. i saw some chili macs but i became confused because i didnt know if it was soup or mac.
>>22237110There was a shoot out in the grocery store and Campbell testified in court against the mob shooters. Those can are now in the witness protection program and live in Port Roberts.
>>22237374It's a very runny mac. Decent but canned pasta is always soggy
>>22236781you should've got the normal chowderold bay is nasty
>>22237543i love old bay and I plan to add even more old bay to the finished product
>>22237374The chili mac is the most caloric soup they offer + beans are good for you.
>>22236781Aside from clam chowder, it all looks horrifying. What is this shit, Campbell's Chunky? The split pea or bean and ham could be good but natural smoke flavor my ass, I bet it tastes fake.
>>22236781Other than the clam chowder, those all suck.
>>22236781Why is the logo censored out? Everyone knows what brand this is.
>>22237009>You can easily make all of those soups at home
>>22237001Clam Chowder is probably the worst canned soup. Real Clam Chowder is probably the best soup ever, but every single canned version tastes like shit, has micro clam bit, is almost all potatoes, and then turns into cream water instead of "soup" rather quickly.
>>22238339What brand is it?
>>22238307it tastes like canned soup, mainly.>>22238342all of this is accurate. but, you see, i simply must have it.
>>22238339>Everyone knows what brand this is.then why do you need the logo?
there was a red pepper and gouda soup in one of those microwavable bowls that was good but I haven't been able to find it in a while. I think they discontinued the progresso spicy tomato too. >>22237009I keep a few cans of soup around for times like when my refrigerator was broken or if there's a blizzard and I can't get to the store for a while.
>>22238342my family keeps buying can after can of "new england clam chowder" despite no one in the house ever eating it and it just takes up more and more space in the pantry over timei truly do not understand
>>22238569mine too bro
>>22238569>it just takes up more and more spaceso do you in your parents house, move out already leech
>>22238586too hard
>>22236781i had a hankering for a soup for breakfast so i will review the spicy corn chowder. i know i said i would start with the ham and bean but i felt like a breakfast soup.here it is straight out of the can. it kind of resembles vomit at this point and the chicken cubes look manufactured and spongey.
>>22239029I'm making some corn tortilla croutons because i like my soup to have a little crunch
>>22239031i added a bay leaf, some extra chipotle, pepper, and a dash of cajun seasoning. i added a little bit of chicken stock and water and I'm gonna simmer it for a minute to infuse the bay leaf.
>>22239032here is the served product. i also added dried cilantro and topped with avocado.as far as ingredients, this soup appears to contain, in order of prevalence:>potato>bean>dark meat chicken>corn>red pepper
>>22236781>Split pea n' ham.Weak.>Bean n' ham.Better.>Borger.Best.>Chipotle corn chowder.Best.>Seasoned clam chowder.Better.>Chicken broccoli cheese potato.Weak.
>>22239053even with all the seasonings i added this soup is still fairly mild. the primary flavor notes are cream of chicken soup and a small sweetness of corn. the potatoes are nice because they are the correct firmness. the chicken doesnt taste as canny as i thought it would but it is sort of dry. the beans i can do without because they do taste very canny. the corn kernels are nice but there isnt enough of them.i rate this soup, as i prepared it, in the context of canned soups (i.e. not compared with homemade soups which are obviously superior): 6/10 - somewhat enjoyable>>22239057the split pea and broccoli potato were the ones i was most unsure about so it's reassuring that you rate the others positively.
>>22239032do you have a bunch of expired spices you're trying to burn through?
>>22239095they're not expired, i bought them all in the last couple weeks. these kind of soups are normally fairly bland so i thought i might "kick it up a notch"
>>22239114thats what table salt and pepper shakers are for. did you forget those?it seems like you're pretending that you're not just reheating canned soup or something
>>22238586I pay them rent at least...
>>22239125I'm not pretending anything, i just showed you what i did.
>>22237009this is dumb bullshit. you keep canned soup for emergencies or to have a little food around that's shelf stable if you have no time to make something. >>22236781depending on what's on sale OP, I really mix it up. that old bay clam chowder is actually awesome. the campbell's spicy stuff is surprisingly spicy, to the point that it ruins it. i feel like they just throw in capsaicin instead of anything that adds to flavor.progresso's italian wedding is great, i always keep a fair amount. i think for more brothy soups, i go with progresso. the worst flavor of all soups is campbell's buffalo. tastes like vomit.
>>22239053That’s pretty cool. I saw you rated it only 6 out of 10 but you made it much better than it would have been direct from the can
>>22236781Why are you blurring out the Campbell's brand name? It's not like they're in the witness protection program.
>>22237110It's copyrighted imagery.
>>22239553>the worst flavor of all soups is campbell's buffaloi had their nashville hot once and it was just so unpleasant that i dont think I'll ever go buffalo.>>22239738the biggest problem is it's just really one-note. i think if i had a lime to cut some of the heavy cream and corn flavor it wouldve been better. there's only so much you can do to canned soup i suppose.
since the thread is still up i will review the TX BBQ Burger flavor. i will not be dressing this up, since i took some flak last time for not giving an honest review of raw canned soup.comes out of the can easy. juice is very much like bbq baked beans in consistency and aroma. the hamburger pieces look a little gray and are shaped like nuggets. there appears to be beans, potatoes, and red bell pepper in here
here is what a living spoonful looks like next to the advertised spoonful
>>22240750i was initially intrigued by this unorthodox soup flavor but i am left disappointed. the hamburger is soft and flavorless. it reminds me of the patties theyd serve in elementary school, probably more soy than beef. it just tastes like eating low quality bbq baked beans. there is no flavor separation of any of the ingredients. i think this soup couldve benefited greatly from some chunks of celery and onion. as far as the added "smoke flavor" I'm getting very little. the sauce is more like sweet tomato than a true bbq sauce, since there is no tang or vinegar to speak of.i rate this unadulterated soup: 2/10.
everybody knows campbells is hobo food/food when you need it but why are you willingly choosing the worst flavors instead of the ones packed with protein? if you know you're willingly eating shitty food why not make the most of it?
>>22239125>adding salt to canned soupyou're either a bot or EXTREMELY retarded.
>>22242043>instead of the ones packed with proteinwell i was prioritizing flavors i thought would be good because i havent eaten canned soup for probably 15 years. I'm not familiar with the line. but the split pea with 23g i believe is the highest protein offering they have, along with the beef and barley. i wasnt thinking about protein but i should have because so far it seems to be a good indicator of how much meat they contain vs. filler.
i had the broccoli cheese last night and it was fairly good. i added an extra piece of american cheese and some black pepper. again very one note. not enough broccoli, very little actual broccoli flavor even. but it was creamy and cheesy enough. i would say it was about a 5/10, but needed more broccoli and meat.
>>22242129Based on the soups so far would you buy the brand again?
>>22242171only at the 97 cents price point.
>>22242048do you know what these things that are on EVERY table in western dining are for? it's to season for TASTE without drastically changing the flavor profile. you don't have to know anything about cooking to know this, yet here you are on a cooking forum saying the dumbest shitthis guy was adding random spices and a fucking bay leaf. what the hell is a bay leaf going to do in the 4 minutes it's reheating? I swear to god, the amount of stupid shit I read here is worse than all the other boards.
>>22237026how do you know it's chunky soup?
>>22238586>move out already leechexactly, think of the poor landlords!
Honest question, I’ve been real sick for a good while, I got a can of Chunky Chicken Noodle, how much will it fuck things up if I warm it in the microwave as opposed to a saucepan?
>>22242825>random spicesthey werent random. the soup was "chipotle corn chowder" so i added more chipotle because i knew their chipotle flavor would be very weak. i added cajun seasoning because it contains red pepper and celery, onion, and garlic, which are good ingredients in any soup, and i added a bay leaf because they are good and i simmered the soup for over 10 minutes, not 4.
>>22236781...luxury soups....
>>22243097>hurrr I actually made soup using canned soup as the base
>>22243090Why do you need a second opinion on microwaving canned soup?
>>22243206he just wanted to make sure we knew what brand the soup was
>>22243202i am really not certain why making a low quality canned soup taste better makes you angry but i am truly sorry if i upset you.
>>22243206I was more wondering if the microwaving destroys the nutritional value, I could look it up myself but then I have to sort through all the propaganda and counter propaganda, and like I said I’ve been sick so I was craving a little human communication even if it’s with assholes like you all anonymously. Sorry if that was too much of an inconvenience for you your highness
>>22243210the bay leaf pretty much proves you don't know wtf you're doing as 10 minutes is still not enough, and a longer simmer will just turn everything even more mushy. you asked for a rating so I'm rating this clown show
>>22243234it's just a bay leaf. if it doesnt do anything that's fine. i did it anyway. sincerest apologies to the bay leaf protectorate you represent.
>>22243226i love you. get well soon. drink the soup from the can.
>>22243226Microwaves excite molecules with vibration until they heat. They "kill nutrients" the same way any heat would, which is to say, barely at all. Just eat your soup moron
>>22243269Fuck you faggot heat destroys the most amount of nutrients and direct heat damages the dna of proteins I’m hoping one of the autists will know if the microwaves bypass the liquid and directly heat the meat inside the soup.
>>22243291Why would a microwave bypass anything? It heats from outside in. They don't just ignore certain phases of matter. You seem really stupid but I'm willing to give you some grace on that because you probably have a mild fever
>>22243291If anything, microwaves heat liquid faster than solids. I'm really hoping you're like 16 and just don't really know how the world works
>>22243302>>22243300I just wanted to warm my soup up not recook it, I’d hurl some more insults with you all but I’m quite tired and dehydrated thanks for the help going to save me time and dishes nuking it
i bought 6 more soups because my mommy let me use her couponhere i will try the Healthy chicken and sausage gumpbo.here is the actual spoonful next to the advertised spoonful. the soup has a ton of rice in it. there are a few okras. i can find any green beans or whatever else that spoon is supposed to show. a few piece of sausage. just a couple small chunks of chicken.
>>22243612i thought I'd do a soup with a more clear broth since I've been doing creamy ones. here it is served with some homemade "firecrackers" i just pulled out of the oven.i did not do anything to this soup in the way of extra seasonings but i wish i did. I'm really missing some bay leaf flavor here.
>>22243627it's very strange that each soup I've had with chicken seems to use a different type of chicken. this one is very formed and cubed. some of them have been more chopped up. idk what theyre doing over there at the soup factory.this one is the first one I've had that tastes like an actual wholesome soup. it does have a "gumbo" flavor to it. the broth tastes vegetal. not too salty.i might go for the heart healthy ones from now on if theyre all like this.ingredients in order of prevalence:>rice>okra>celery>bell pepper>tomato>sausage>chickenanyway i give this soup, even without any additional seasonings, a 6.5/10
I used to eat canned soup all of the time but now it just makes me feel poor. I know everything has gotten worse but I think the canned soups are much worse now, and if they're a somewhat decent brand it'll be like five dollars for a can which is ridiculous. just learn how to cook your own soups desu, I know the time tradeoff isn't worth it for most people but fuck it dude it's getting cold out and I want to make a big fat broccoli cheddar soup
>>22243311try liquid iv. it's got electrolytes and technically it's a soup.
>>22243627Firecracker recipe?
>>22243720it was like 1 cup of oil, 2T ranch mix, 1/4tsp black pepper, 1tsp garlic powder, then a dash of chipotle powder and cajun seasoning.you mix all that together in a gallon ziplock then put in about 2 sleeves of crackers and turn it over gently until theyre coated and let them marinate in the fridge overnight. then bake at 250 for 15 minutes.theyre really good and you can change the seasonings to whatever you want. cheaper and better than name brand snack crackers for sure.
>>22243694i do not habitually eat canned soup but 97 cents was too good a deal for me to pass up. I'd never buy them full price. plus i dont really keep anything around the house that i can heat up and eat in a couple minutes so i thought they'd be nice to have on hand. i used to make tom kha gai fairly often but never really been big on making soups for some reason. you should make a cheddar broccoli soup, that sounds good.
>>22243726They don't get soggy in the marinade?
>>22243733no. idk why. i guess because it's oil and not water. and they arent really sitting in liquid they just kinda get coated.i ate one even before baking and it was still crisp.
>>22243738You better not be fibbin me. I HATE soggy crackers.
>>22243745i would never fib on you. just search for "fire cracker" recipes. it's a popular white trashy thing in the south. they've had decades to work out the kinks.
>>22243748I googled it, and it just took me to the 5 year HR goals for all the companies in the Fortune 500
>>22243753NTA but i was really about respond to you earnestly about the existence of fire crackers
>>22243753I haven’t heard of the fire cracker term but coating and baking plain saltines is a thing I’ve seen before, supposed to be good
>>22236781Do Japs have to censor they soups as well?
>>22236781>burger soupWhy do Americans like such fucking nasty food?
>>22243726wtf is going on with your toenail, holy shit
>>22244294I'm growing it out
i am loathe to bump my own stupid soup thread but i have had something of a revelation and i think i need to give [soup brand] their due on this.the savory vegetable flavor is very good. it is 90% vegetables when you pour it out of the can. immediately you feel like you're getting value and a wholesome soup. it seems to be equal parts potatoes and carrots but they are big chunks. there is ample green bean, celery and corn as well.i was surprised by this soup, after so many of the other various disappointments this brand brand has given me.
>>22244982here is the serving. i rate this soup a 9/10.i added nothing to it (aside from the crackers).the broth is vegetal and tomatoey. there's a small amount of acid and umami in there from the tomato. the vegetables are not too mushy. this is a fine canned soup. it reminds me of the soup you get at medieval times.
>>22244982Nah its based, i enjoyed the update
