Rate my soup flavors. First canned soup sale of the season so I picked up some flavors. What kinda flavors you picking up this season?
>>
>>22236781
when i say flavors I'm talking about Canned Soup flavors but you can talk about homemade soup flavors too, I'm real laid back like that.
>>
Bean and ham's always my go-to but I prefer making it from scratch.
>>
>>22236781
I picked up a lentil soup that I hear is very progressive
>>
>>22236787
I've had a hankering for ham and bean lately. maybe I'll take a crack at making my own, if i can find a ham.
>>22236789
i believe lentils are at the forefront of social change.
>>
>>22236781
Not a big fan of canned chowders as they tend to have an artificial creaminess imo, but bean and pea soups are awesome

>>22236789
Is that just because the can said “Progresso”?
>>
>>22236781
Clam chowder is based
Chipotle corn and Texas bbq sounds good

Canned soup is fucking retarded. You can easily make all of those soups at home, and do a far better job. Chop some shit, simmer it in broth for varying lengths of time, bam, soup.
I made this bean soup last night, took an hour total, made enough for a couple of meals. And when that's done, I'm making clam chowder.

i know what you mean. i just have vivid nostalgia from childhood of eating clam chowder while playing fable and i need to go back.

i appreciate your honesty and I'll try to do right by you.

that is true but these were 97 cents.
that soup looks very wholesome, how many beans are in it? I'd be interested in seeing some homemade clam chowder on this board, as well.
>>
>>22236781
All chunky soup tastes like rennet and you should be ashamed.
>>
>>22237021
Two cans of canellini beans. I don't have the same hangups about canned beans, as I do about canned soup, because I can't be fucked to soak dry beans overnight. I'll post the chowder on Friday, because it's illegal to eat clam chowder any other day.
>>
>>22237021
Also, that picture reminds me that I have a bunch of leeks in my fridge that are kinda old and I haven't used. I should make leek and potato soup before they go bad.

i think the order of operations in picrel allows for a balanced experience of the soups, keeping the similar soups separated, distributing the clear broths among the creamies, and culminating in the decadent treat of the hamburger soup.

For me it's chili mac or chicken and dumplings.

Clam Chowder is probably the worst canned soup. Real Clam Chowder is probably the best soup ever, but every single canned version tastes like shit, has micro clam bit, is almost all potatoes, and then turns into cream water instead of "soup" rather quickly.

there was a red pepper and gouda soup in one of those microwavable bowls that was good but I haven't been able to find it in a while. I think they discontinued the progresso spicy tomato too.

i had a hankering for a soup for breakfast so i will review the spicy corn chowder. i know i said i would start with the ham and bean but i felt like a breakfast soup.

here is the served product. i also added dried cilantro and topped with avocado.
as far as ingredients, this soup appears to contain, in order of prevalence:
>potato
>bean
>dark meat chicken
>corn
>red pepper
>>
>>22236781
>Split pea n' ham.
Weak.
>Bean n' ham.
Better.
>Borger.
Best.

>Chipotle corn chowder.
Best.
>Seasoned clam chowder.
Better.
>Chicken broccoli cheese potato.
Weak.
>>
>>22239053
even with all the seasonings i added this soup is still fairly mild. the primary flavor notes are cream of chicken soup and a small sweetness of corn.
the potatoes are nice because they are the correct firmness. the chicken doesnt taste as canny as i thought it would but it is sort of dry. the beans i can do without because they do taste very canny. the corn kernels are nice but there isnt enough of them.
i rate this soup, as i prepared it, in the context of canned soups (i.e. not compared with homemade soups which are obviously superior): 6/10 - somewhat enjoyable
>>22239057
the split pea and broccoli potato were the ones i was most unsure about so it's reassuring that you rate the others positively.
>>
>>22239032
do you have a bunch of expired spices you're trying to burn through?
>>
>>22239095
they're not expired, i bought them all in the last couple weeks. these kind of soups are normally fairly bland so i thought i might "kick it up a notch"
>>
>>22239114
thats what table salt and pepper shakers are for. did you forget those?

>>
>>22237009
this is dumb bullshit. you keep canned soup for emergencies or to have a little food around that's shelf stable if you have no time to make something.

>>22236781
depending on what's on sale OP, I really mix it up. that old bay clam chowder is actually awesome. the campbell's spicy stuff is surprisingly spicy, to the point that it ruins it. i feel like they just throw in capsaicin instead of anything that adds to flavor.

progresso's italian wedding is great, i always keep a fair amount. i think for more brothy soups, i go with progresso. the worst flavor of all soups is campbell's buffalo. tastes like vomit.
>>
>>22239053
That’s pretty cool. I saw you rated it only 6 out of 10 but you made it much better than it would have been direct from the can
>>
>>22236781
Why are you blurring out the Campbell's brand name? It's not like they're in the witness protection program.

>the worst flavor of all soups is campbell's buffalo
i had their nashville hot once and it was just so unpleasant that i dont think I'll ever go buffalo.
>>22239738
the biggest problem is it's just really one-note. i think if i had a lime to cut some of the heavy cream and corn flavor it wouldve been better. there's only so much you can do to canned soup i suppose.

since the thread is still up i will review the TX BBQ Burger flavor. i will not be dressing this up, since i took some flak last time for not giving an honest review of raw canned soup.
comes out of the can easy. juice is very much like bbq baked beans in consistency and aroma. the hamburger pieces look a little gray and are shaped like nuggets. there appears to be beans, potatoes, and red bell pepper in here

i was initially intrigued by this unorthodox soup flavor but i am left disappointed. the hamburger is soft and flavorless. it reminds me of the patties theyd serve in elementary school, probably more soy than beef. it just tastes like eating low quality bbq baked beans. there is no flavor separation of any of the ingredients. i think this soup couldve benefited greatly from some chunks of celery and onion. as far as the added "smoke flavor" I'm getting very little. the sauce is more like sweet tomato than a true bbq sauce, since there is no tang or vinegar to speak of.
i rate this unadulterated soup: 2/10.
>>
everybody knows campbells is hobo food/food when you need it but why are you willingly choosing the worst flavors instead of the ones packed with protein? if you know you're willingly eating shitty food why not make the most of it?
>>
>>22239125
>adding salt to canned soup
you're either a bot or EXTREMELY retarded.
>>
>>22242043
>instead of the ones packed with protein
well i was prioritizing flavors i thought would be good because i havent eaten canned soup for probably 15 years. I'm not familiar with the line. but the split pea with 23g i believe is the highest protein offering they have, along with the beef and barley. i wasnt thinking about protein but i should have because so far it seems to be a good indicator of how much meat they contain vs. filler.

i had the broccoli cheese last night and it was fairly good. i added an extra piece of american cheese and some black pepper.
again very one note. not enough broccoli, very little actual broccoli flavor even. but it was creamy and cheesy enough. i would say it was about a 5/10, but needed more broccoli and meat.
>>

this guy was adding random spices and a fucking bay leaf. what the hell is a bay leaf going to do in the 4 minutes it's reheating? I swear to god, the amount of stupid shit I read here is worse than all the other boards.

Honest question, I’ve been real sick for a good while, I got a can of Chunky Chicken Noodle, how much will it fuck things up if I warm it in the microwave as opposed to a saucepan?
>>
>>22242825
>random spices
they werent random. the soup was "chipotle corn chowder" so i added more chipotle because i knew their chipotle flavor would be very weak. i added cajun seasoning because it contains red pepper and celery, onion, and garlic, which are good ingredients in any soup, and i added a bay leaf because they are good and i simmered the soup for over 10 minutes, not 4.

Microwaves excite molecules with vibration until they heat. They "kill nutrients" the same way any heat would, which is to say, barely at all. Just eat your soup moron

Fuck you faggot heat destroys the most amount of nutrients and direct heat damages the dna of proteins I’m hoping one of the autists will know if the microwaves bypass the liquid and directly heat the meat inside the soup.

it's very strange that each soup I've had with chicken seems to use a different type of chicken. this one is very formed and cubed. some of them have been more chopped up. idk what theyre doing over there at the soup factory.
this one is the first one I've had that tastes like an actual wholesome soup. it does have a "gumbo" flavor to it. the broth tastes vegetal. not too salty.
i might go for the heart healthy ones from now on if theyre all like this.

it was like 1 cup of oil, 2T ranch mix, 1/4tsp black pepper, 1tsp garlic powder, then a dash of chipotle powder and cajun seasoning.
you mix all that together in a gallon ziplock then put in about 2 sleeves of crackers and turn it over gently until theyre coated and let them marinate in the fridge overnight. then bake at 250 for 15 minutes.
theyre really good and you can change the seasonings to whatever you want. cheaper and better than name brand snack crackers for sure.

i am loathe to bump my own stupid soup thread but i have had something of a revelation and i think i need to give [soup brand] their due on this.
the savory vegetable flavor is very good. it is 90% vegetables when you pour it out of the can. immediately you feel like you're getting value and a wholesome soup. it seems to be equal parts potatoes and carrots but they are big chunks. there is ample green bean, celery and corn as well.
i was surprised by this soup, after so many of the other various disappointments this brand brand has given me.

i rate this soup a 9/10.
i added nothing to it (aside from the crackers).
the broth is vegetal and tomatoey. there's a small amount of acid and umami in there from the tomato. the vegetables are not too mushy.
this is a fine canned soup. it reminds me of the soup you get at medieval times.
