Will Americans start making century eggs once a dozen eggs cost $25? Buy in bulk, preserve using the century method, as they do in China for the past 300 years.
>>22241920No. They don't taste the same at all.
>>22241922yea, well, still good preservation
Seems like the smart move would be to make them while they're still cheap
>>22241920>Will Americans start making century eggsi hope not.eggs are best less than 2 weeks out of the hen.any longer than that and you're just eating subpar eggs.
>>22241920Americans will find a way to expedite the century into a mere week
>>22241920>300 years.tricentennial eggs?
>>22241920just buy chickens then
Bugmen really do eat fucking anything.
>>22241920in the book im reading he says they call them century eggs but they're actually just fermented/aged for like 2 weeks. typical marketing claims vs the actual truth
Chickens are one of the easiest animals to just keep in your yard and get free eggs. Anyone with chickens basically gives their eggs away for free because they have too many eggs. If commercial eggs were ever 2 dollars per egg then every person in the country with a yard would either stop eating eggs or buy some chickens.
>>22241920i just started laying my own eggsthey're a bit stinky
>>22242637It's just a name. They're not really 100+years old.Probably called that because they look so completely different like they COULD be centuries old
>>22242637>>22242874yes, it just takes a couple weeks or so to make them but i think the basic idea is that this is an effective preservation method which could potentially keep the eggs edible for a hundred years. they probably get better with age as usual as the flavors mellow and blend and become richer. a young century egg is just going to taste like ammonia (pee), i assume.
>>22241920those dont actually last longer than pickled eggs.
>>22241920>once a dozen eggs cost $25?This bot is over a year out of date.
